Look the X from the show is one of three potential characters: Jason Todd, Grant Wilson, or just a clone of Dick Grayson. Beast Boy is likely the most correct when it comes to his identity simply because its presented as a joke rather than something we are supposed to take as a serious guess.

The thing with the second Red X in that comic series raising someone for some revenge scheme doesn't feel 'in character' for him. From what I recall, at his core, Red X is/was a master thief who managed to get his hands on a high tech suit. At his best, he's an anti-hero and at the worst just a highly skilled thief.

I've never really liked the insistence of not revealing a character's identity because I feel like it limits what you can do with them. Like, Batman was initially introduced already a superhero with no origin story in his debut. But can you imagine if they never gave us Batman's backstory which informs his choice not to use guns, his soft spot for children, and his efforts to prevent crime through charity and social welfare programs? Like, I don't think you necessarily need to have Red X turn out to be someone we already know. You could just make an original character and give him a compelling and unexpected backstory that contextualizes his actions. Like, just unmask him in one issue and show that he's just some dude, but then start showing him outside the context of being a Titans antagonist. Show us where and how he lives, what he spends his money on after a successful heist, who he hangs out with and what kind of relationship he has with them and sprinkle in details about his family and where he grew up and how he made some of the connections he's made to give us a fuller picture of what motivates his choices. Maybe in the show, when he acted more friendly toward Robin it was because Robin reminds him of when he used to be more idealistic and looked up to superheroes before something happened to make him more jaded and self-serving. Or maybe it's because Robin reminds him of a brother who died or who he became estranged from. Maybe he steals because he grew up poor and that was the only way he saw to live the high life he wanted, or maybe he does it because he's deep in debt to some bad people, or maybe his "I only look out for number one" thing is a facade meant to hide that he's actually doing what he does for someone else he's close to. If you wanted him to be a preexisting character, he doesn't have to be Jason Todd, but you could use Jason's story for literally any character who got killed off a long time ago and hasn't been used or referenced in forever and breathe new life into them by explaining how they actually survived and how what happened to them influenced them to become Red X. Doesn't even have to be a former hero, it could a supporting civilian character.

I have a theory that Red X2 is actually Talon from Earth-3 (Dick Grayson) In Talons storyline he is actually a thief working with Owlman. He falls for Duela Dent (thr Jokesters daughter) and decides to change his ways and do whatever he can to protect her. In Earth-3 Dick Grayson (Talon) is in his late teens, older then in Teen Titan animated series. After Infinite Crisis Talon and Duela flee to New Earth to form a new life and join the Teen Titans. Not much is known after this event. Now tell me if you go to a New Earth and approach Titan Tower and realize there is already a Robin / Dick Grayson what would you do... cuz let's face it every iteration of Teen Titans has a Dick Grayson at some point. I think Teen Titans the Animated Series takes place on New Earth Talon showed up after the Red X suit gets placed into the vault. Talon being a master thief and also a version of Dick Grayson... has the tools and abilities to open the vault. This would account for the slight height increase because he's older, the exact same style, how to use all of the tools and gadgets, the exact same voice actor, the purpose of always calling Robin kid(he's older), his lifestyle difference giving him a Whittier attitude, and still answers the two questions of two iconic Red X sayings. First: Robin I thought you didn't play the hero. Red X: doesn't mean I don't know how. Second the infamous: "Just looking out for number one" He never says he's number one, Talon could be refering to Duela as number one. He gave up everything for her, and now found in this new world that he can't exist... He is doing everything he can to take care of himself and his girl.

The other thing that feels a bit contrived is Red X-2 targeting Nightwing, given that the two separated on a relatively neutral note and mutual respect in the original iteration. For Red X-2 to hate Nightwing and Batman so much that he'd viciously kill his own pupil just to unsettle Nightwing feels so out of character for the mysterious and egocentric, yet cool and collected, rogue whom we had been introduced to so long ago.

I still believe in the theory that Red X is Grant Wilson, Slade’s first born son A.K.A. The First Ravager. They introduced Rose Wilson as Ravager in the Teen Titans’ show comic, but never Grant, so it would be an interesting way to reintroduce him to the series, either by the help of a times gadget in his heart that reenergized his heart and increase his adrenaline to give him a second wind, or him being a clone after death, or resurrected by science or the way of Jason Todd. Either way, I like that idea, because it would bring him back into continuity and it would explain Red X’s fixation of Robin, since I’m pretty sure Grant hates him the most.

My theory was that there really wasn’t anyone under the mask. Teen Titans tried to actively avoid DC lore and origins of their characters usually. They’re just robot, animal man, witch, alien, and . They did break this rule many times over the course of the series, yes. Most notably Raven and beast boy who both had whole arcs centred around their past. But it’s very clear that their stance is making a fun character and dealing with everything else later. So by that extension, who was under the mask didn’t matter because his character was the mysterious antihero.

Whenever I think of a "super hero school", the X-Men's "Xavier Academy" comes to mind. To me, that's the template of how a "school for the gifted" should be handled. And with their ever-expanding roster of characters, I think that's a concept they should always incorporate w/ their stories. As far as Red X's identity is concerned, I think it should remain a mystery (especially if they come up w/ half-baked stories like this), because that's pretty much the most interesting thing about him. I fear that DC is going to do the whole Joker-thing, & make a bunch of characters w/ the same name & poorly try to explain a few of their lame backstories. To me, doing that just cheapens the original character. While I think it's rather lazy writing to create a character, but never give them a legit backstory, I prefer that for maybe 1 or 2 characters, instead of giving them multiple "questionable" histories and/or "copycats". And I've always hated stories where they just create characters, hype them up, simply to kill them off & their deaths really don't matter much (outside of a possible resurrection of some sort).

I was IMMENSELY disappointed in the whole Red X thing. It was indeed the only reason why I picked up the stories, and the teasers were pretty amazing. What I didn't get though was that there were moments where some people apparently knew who Red X was, then others who didn't. For some reason Cyborg and Beast Boy had become one. It was a messy slip and slide, to the point that I felt like I had whiplash after reading a few issues alone. I'd also LOVE a video about Gotham Academy if I'm honest. Personally I stayed away from the new comics due to caution of the whole identity problem. I always liked the idea that Red-X was just an honorable thief whose ID didn't really matter. I never liked the theory of Jason Todd due to Red-X calling Dick 'kid' since Dick would be older than Jay; _that_ and Jason Todd, at the time of Red-X's creation, wasn't Red Hood and hadn't yet returned from his character death. I orginally liked the theory of Grant Wilson being the real Red-X, but this doesn't work for me entirely since X points out that he knows how to be a hero. Of course, he could just mean that he knows generally rather than intimately. Recently, I've preferred the theory of Red-X being a one-off character similar to Lance Bruner. Lance appeared in a single issue way back when where Bruce took the kid in for reasons too weak to really repeat. The kid was trouble from the start and, at some point, stole the Robin uniform in some half baked plot to sell Batman's identity. My reasoning for bringing up this odd little random is because Lance's impersonation of Robin was so convincing that even Batman couldn't tell the difference between he and Dick. And that's my incredibly weird explanation for why Robin and X have the same voice actor. Or, I don't know, X could just be an honorable no-name thief who's out for number one.

@@letemknowdae My analysis of the Red-X character does not stem from the comics. I state that I have stayed away from them because I'm certain I will be disappointed. But, hey, you did comment, so here I go; your first reason can easily be explained: DC, as well as other comic companies & series, often do reboots or crises to restart the stories often for either younger or newer readers or because the storylines are so dang confusing that even the writers are messing it up. Lance Bruner has only had _one_ single issue back before any crisis to my knowledge. IF Red-X is Lance Bruner, then this could be the new continuity for him. This same explanation can be used for the cartoon as well. Your second reason ties back into my initial statements over my analysis of his potential identity. Cartoon Red-X never had known powers - he didn't need them and it is pointless to give them to him. However, this powered version could always be simply another pretender and the true version either doesn't exist in that timeline/world or is out of the game for whatever reason. I'd call this last bit of reasoning denial if I actually cared about the Red-X comics. I care about the original version though. I should point out, your comment further proves my initial assessment; Red-X should have stayed as an 'honorable no-name thief who's out for number one.'

I have a problem that Dick, from the comics, has been Red-X like in the cartoon. In the cartoon, Robin was more serious and obsessed with catching Slade. That attitude is not consistent with the Dick of the comics, especially in the days of New Teen Titans. This Dick, like Robin, wouldn't do anything to infiltrate a criminal organization without telling his friends of his plan. If they had said Red-X was an alias used by Tim or Damian, that would have made more sense. There is also the problem that the Red-X II is more or less a copy of Deathstroke or Wrath, when in the cartoon he was a thief with a neutral alignment. He wasn't interested in revenge, just stealing things.

Although I respect the main comic continuity for finally giving Red X an identity, I think in the original TV show it works better if we don’t know for sure who he is. Simply put the mystery of who Red X is is his biggest selling point. I mean he makes only a handful of appearances throughout the show and apart from being highly skilled, a decent thief, and kind of a bad boy there isn’t really much to his personality. Literally every ability that he has he stole from Robin, so him not having a definitive identity was the only thing that gave him identity. So although I think for the main comic continuity it’s great that he has a real face and name and you can totally add his true identity to your teen titans head canon but I think it’s best if we never know for sure who it is in the show’s universe. Also before anyone says it no he was not Jason Todd in the show. Red X was clearly intended to be older than Robin by the fact he kept on referring to the boy wonder as “Kid” so unless teen titans pulled a white knight and made Jason the first robin that wouldn’t have ever worked.

@@comicfan1324 why would he become a thief? My guess would be to be able to fund the Red-X stuff and the gadgets and everything he uses. Why would he work for criminals? My guess would be to get in good with them so he can learn their weaknesses and secrets to be able to take them over. Why is he focusing on the Titans? My guess is that Joker is in Arkham or dead and that Batman is either retired, dead, or in a post-Knightfall state, so he needs someone to go after and the next closest connection would be Dick Grayson and so by proxy the Titans as well. If not, who's to say he isn't also going after Batman and Joker off screen as Red Hood, and then using the Red-X identity to go after Grayson and the Titans so as to not easily connect it to him, as Dick would likely know who Red Hood is and as such would know how to fight him and such. Also, while he does refer to Grayson as kid, which does imply that he could be older, it could also just be sort of a taunt or tease or dig at Grayson or whatever, like a "I'm younger but more mature than you" or "I'm younger but have my own identity while you still choose to identify as a kid" or something like that. In other words he's basically calling Grayson childish and immature and such while he sees himself as above that and such as a sort of "compared to me you are a kid, even though I may be younger than you" type thing. That sort of thing does happen, like when people of any age are arguing and bickering people may in a teasing way say "ok children, you can stop fighting now" to point out the immaturity and childishness of how they are acting and such.

Yeah, not only that but the tv show Red X was a straight up antihero, the dude was a thief but not a murderer and not someone who would hold grudges like this version. The dude was even nice enough to save Robin (albeit for his own gain) and seemed genuinely impressed not mad when Robin double crossed him at the end.

I'm going to try to get Teen Titans uncancelled and had this idea with Red X where it turns out is..... Some guy. Literally just some guy. Not a well known DC character or even a DC charater, just some guy. The idea behind this is something like that line from Arkham City. Answers don't always give you ever lasting satisfaction. Sometimes you have to prepare yourself for a little disappointment.

If i remember correctly in one of those sites where the creators responded to fans question multiple people from the original team said that it was indeed Jason Todd

Why would Red X 2 want to ruin Nightwings life? Why did he kill Bricks parents? Isn't the point of Red X 2 that he isn't a villain but a thief. He doesn't kill, he steals. Wasn't that a big part of his character? An anonymous, high-tech, dangerous thief who's in it for an unknown reason? I don't like how they portrayed his character in this comic.

Honestly i think they should've just had Red X be a new villain and his own character instead of him already being connected to Nightwing's past. Because it makes it easier for the new readers to follow who Red X is without having to know his history from the Teen Titans show.

Me and Korath 0:52 had the exact same reaction and phrase at the exact same time when Red X's Identity was revealed

It should of been kept a secret. Makes the character cooler, although I thought it was either Jason Todd or Grant Wilson.
