DID TEEN TITANS CREATE RED HOOD? ( W/ OWEN LIKES COMICS )

Did people really think Tim Drake was Robin in this show? Does nobody remember the episode where Starfire gets sent to the future and meets Nightwing?

I always liked to think that RED X calling them kid was Jason just taunting them because he thought he was better.

Writers: "There's a character called deathstroke" Network: "No no no, we can't say death." Writers: "well we are going show him as a burning skull" Network: "oh the burn skull is fine, just don't say death"

I like to think that Red X is a version of Jason Todd who, instead of dying in Batman's care, possibly left and trained under Slade; it explains how he knew Robin took the mantle in the first place, and how he is able to beat Robin in combat, on top of the foundational similarities. I haven't watched in years, but I get the sense Red X has a superiority/inferiority complex situation like Jason Todd did, as a replacement to their respective mentors. Robin already "has a father", but maybe Red X didn't. Oh, and if I recall correctly, Slade did have a son he believed was killed. Sounds like an awfully convenient motivation to indoctrinate the son of an enemy for one's own means, whether it's simply strategy or a genuine emotional connection.

I think Red X calling Robin Kid as a reference of sorts of how although he is in a different city with a new team he is still the “boy wonder”, the side kick of Batman. Not much of a deep thought but an idea.

I personally like the theory that Red X is Slade’s oldest son Grant Wilson. In the comics he was Ravager. He wasn’t around for long in the comics but his death was sort of what spurred Deathstroke’s vendetta against the Titans. But since the cartoon reimagined a lot already. I could see him taking the Red X tech since it’d work symbolically given that he would see it as a symbolic thing to steal it from his father’s apprentice.

“She would steal mine, then I would steal them back, and I would get in trouble” she was the favorite right?

I also think it’s weird that they never folded Red X into the mainstream DC Universe. They do that shit all the time. Red X was a major fan-favorite villain in Teen Titans, so it doesn’t really make sense to me that DC never officially added him to the mainstream comic continuity. However, that all makes a lot more sense if they used Red X as inspiration for Red Hood

A show where a character’s identity is never revealed, seriously a gem not seen in today’s shows

After the Lazerus Pit Jason Todd basically becomes DC's Punisher, with a grudge against Batman for not avenging his death(very important detail missed). I was one of the few that voted to keep him alive.

Jason Todd is taller in the comics, so maybe when he refers to robin as kid, his referring to his height in the fact that despite being older than him he is still a shorty and teasing him in that way. This having much more of an impact of him due to robins personality and ego, e.g. how slade used to antagonise him with his sly comments etc so X might be just trying to annoy and offend him as he knows he is the sort of person who would get frustrated and angry about it being called a kid. I’ve seen this done similarly in anime and other shows.

A lot of people are saying they believed Teen Titans Robin to be Tim Drake. I think that's probably because his design wasn't all that different from Tim Drake's in BTAS. However, The Robin from Teen Titans is confirmed to be Dick Grayson. In the episode that establishes Larry, an imp from another universe that's obsessed with Robin and is basically his own world's counterpart, his full name is revealed to be "Nosyarg Kcid" which is "Dick Grayson" backwards.

If he is not Jason Todd,he could be at least a Dick Grayson clone,Slade not managing to bring Robin to his side,create his own version,with a part of his memories, and he could have went rogue when he discovered he is just a clone..

It's just mind-boggling how Jason went from hated character to a badass character that almost everyone loves

Fun fact, in the White Knight comic book line. An elseworld story about the Joker becoming sane, it is mentioned that Jason Todd was the first Robin in that world. So it can happen here and there. This was a fun video and it making me think about something I haven't really thought about before.

I think Hush and Red X inspired Jason Todd’s return to become Red Hood. I remember being so fascinated at the idea that Hush was a former Robin holding my favorite Robin Tim Drake hostage. I had no idea at the time who that former Robin was, until I learned he was Batman’s 2nd Robin Jason Todd. I always thought as a kid it was Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, and Stephanie Brown. Now things have changed a lot and I absolutely love Jason Todd lol

I was so disappointed in 2006 when the show ended and they never revealed who Red X was supposed to be :/

I definitely believe Red X IS Jason Todd, and he was the template and inspiration for for Jason’s Red Hood

Although Jason Todd in the comics isn't actually older, I think that he, when he came back as red hood, that he acted like he was older or they made him look like he was older I mean he could just be sayin kid in the Teen Titans to throw them off

It's also possible that Jason is just older in this universe. DC writers are always trying something new with the characters

I think that in the Teen Titans universe Jason Todd was just the first Robin and Dick Grayson was the second Robin, it still followed the same stuff of him being killed and returning

I feel like if the writers had meant for Red X to be Jason Todd, they wouldn't have teased it so much because the answer would have been too obvious

I think the Anime inspired artsyle helped a lot. At the time the DC/Marvel Amimatiom style was being done to death. With Justice League, every batman spinoff, X-Men Evolution was airing. The Teen Titans artstyle was really appealing to the eye.

YES I always believed new Red X was low key Jason! Especially since reading RH’s comics and rewatching the series. Ps: I totally understand ... the Teen Titans Toy line was one of the greatest of all time😂 I held onto them like gold

I'd say it's possible that the writers who put Jason under the Red Hood took inspiration from Red X, but I feel relatively confident the idea of bringing Jason back as an anti-hero in some fashion predates TT. Even if Jason was only shown to be Red Hood in 05, the run itself started in 04, and more than likely was being planned out before even that. The timing would've been pretty tight for X to be used as a blueprint for Hood, but later on inspiration as to how he'd bounce off a bat family member is an entirely plausible notion.

My interpretation is that Red X is a bit like a tulpa, the identity itself brought to life by the xenothium that powers his suit.

If I had to guess probably not. Hush which came out a year before this episode teased the return of Jason Todd and Under the Hood was released a month after this episode. It's probably just coincidence if anything.

Given that Under the Red Hood and Teen Titans (being slightly older) were running side by side by this point, you could make the argument that while not maybe Jason Todd exactly, Red X could be their take on Red Hood or at the very least inspired by him. An anti-villain with a rivalry with the main character while being the physical reminder of a past failure.

I dunno about you guys, but I do believe that Alfred is red x. Lol, the Jason theory is very plausible.

Great video. Never realized that the Red Hood storyline with Jason Todd didn't occur until after the show. I always assumed Red X was the version they were allowed to use of Red Hood in the same way as all the other changes had to occur with the old cartoons. Saw that quick Titans clip, if you haven't already done a video on the live-action show and I missed it then I'd love to see your take on it!

Since I'm a big fan of you and Owen hearing you two interact was a real treat! Also I love this video for sure, very well done! I don't know if Jason Todd is Red X or not, although it does almost make some sense when I think about it in the long haul. However I like the theories suggested here, and I like Owen's History dive a lot too! Also I have become a strong Red Hood fan ever since first seeing Batman Under the Red Hood, so I was naturally curious about his character history. Fantastic team-up guys!

I’ve said this on other Red X videos but man I just love how we’ll never know the true identity. Such a cool design too. It would be awesome to find out that it was Jason Todd but somebody else stole the suit which would further the mystery.

It could be possible that before turning into Red Hood he could had made a stint as Red X, also the "kid" argument against the idea that he might be Red Hood is not that good, as he might be using that as an insult knowing it would push Robin buttons since he hates being treated like a kid.

I still think Red X is Jason. It's totally possible they just aged him up for the show and they where going to revile it, before it was cancelled.

It's kinda weird that Owen knows Jason's first origins as a carbon copy of Dick, yet doesn't know(or at least doesn't say on the video) that Jason Todd resurrection was actually a consequence of Superboy punching (and breaking) reality on the Infinite Crisis storyline.

My theory has always been that Red X is a "failed" clone of Robin made by Slade that defected to male his own identity as Red X. Hence why he knows how to "play hero", has experience as a villain, and knows almost all of Robin's tricks. He refers to Robin as "kid" because he was aged to be older than Robin. Technology proven by Galetea in JLU. But that's just my theory

I love your line in the beginning like, “PLEASE HOLD OFF ON CORRECTING ME IN THE COMMENTS, LET ME EXPLAIN BEFORE YOU ALL LOSE YOUR MINDS” hahahah. Cuz all of us who already knew were like, “Hmmmmm wait a minute that’s not the whole story about Red Hood”. This is an excellent theory that I haven’t seen anywhere else before. It added a whole new possibility of interpretation to a KEY FOOD GROUP of my childhood media experiences, haha. I freaking loved Teen Titans when it was on, and it’s remained among my favorite shows over the years. It holds up a lot.

He could be both, and he could be like the Jason Todd that was in the Batman:White Knight comic who was:(spoiler alert if you haven’t read this comic), was robin before dick Grayson, and he To was held hostage by the joker too, but he quit being robin, and Grayson became robin after Jason allegedly died, and that could be the same in the universe the Titans cartoon takes place in, but that’s my theory🤔.

When I was a kid I just thought that Red X was Dick Grayson from the future, which may sound dumb but think about it… Red X knew where the suit was. He had a similar fighting style to robin but was a little better. He flirted with starfire and called robin “kid” a lot. And starfire had already traveled to the future in season two. It totally could have been nightwing. I mean it’s not…but…

Later before the funeral I managed to sneak up and grab his corpse and take him to the league of the demons at the Lazarus pin for mental surgery. His Resurrection was a success only had one side effect he had growth acceleration. Cyborg: that explains why he keeps referring us kids because he used to be one and now he wants to act like a man that he thinks he is. Slade: that is correct cyborg he was jealous while back but not anymore. Later I took him under my wing as my true apprentice or should I say partner. Beast boy: if he was your apprentice and why were you bothering Robin and Terra all this times if you could just had him all along while we're not knowing. Slade: because beast boy like most students he wasn't prepared yet and luckily for him he was patient cuz he wanted to regain his abilities for something higher. Robin: revenge? Slades: if that's the case. Also the reason why I chose you Robin is because he wanted to meet you face to face but after you rejected my offer he was angry cuz all he ever wanted was to meet you again. Then later when I encountered Tara they train together he was the brains and she was the Brawn. And later after my demise and her betrayal that's where he decided to take my place that's when he stole the Red X suit to become the next mercenary. Raven: that's bwhy he stole the suit he's trying to take your place. After your demise that we thought was complete. Slade: that is correct raven. And it was fun to see Jason and Robin to team up like brothers again as they used to Batman would have been so proud if he haven't let go of his stubbornness that consumes his past. Robin: he was my brother but not the one I remember. Slade: get used to it once you appreciate it. But now all it's left for Jason or should I say Red X is revenge. Cyborg: what do you mean I thought he's one of the good guys . Raven: and he says that we're even for now. Slade: that is if you promises to stay out of his way once he completes his main task. And second he's going after the man who was responsible for his life and he will end him tonight on Halloween because it's a frightful time of year. Look, I would love too say that it's Jason, he's also my favorite robin, but when looking at all the other ideas on beast boys conspiracy board it's made clear that Jason was put thare for the same reason the little time traveling Nightwing was, it was just a little Easter egg, and coupled with the idea of x being older than robin who is clearly i ment too be Dick, I think it's unlikely, but not impossible because even though red hood didn't appear as Jason until 2005, Jason himself returned in 2002 in batman hush, so it's not likely but the idea was on the table

If you think Jason can't beat Dick in a fight, you're nuts. Even Damian, albeit begrudgingly, admitted that Jason Todd is one of the best fighters in all the world. If he DIDN'T use his moral compass, Dick wouldn't stand a chance.

Bro i had made a lego custom character in lego batman 2 named "cross", his logo was a red x and he was a former robin and i was absolutely heated when i found out that was already a character. Reminds me of the time i thought i invented pb&j sandwiches as a kid
