You should be proud! This song is one of my favorites, as the daughter of Mexican American immigrants living in Los Angeles, California, and growing up in the 90s. This song used to come on all the time on the radio station my dad loved the most. This song will slap even two hundred years from now! I only wish the original dance was in the radio edit. It perfectly opens the song!
It is 2024 and it's hard to believe that this song will be 50 year's old this summer..I loved this song and the only Native American group with a number one hit
I saw it come up as recommended and hit play, as I was listening, I was thinking wasn't this in a movie not so long ago. Only reason I remember that movie.
September 22 is Native American Day- Celebrate Native Americans REDBONE, who wrote "Come and Get Your Love"- and MANY more great tunes. Check them out.
I graduated in 74 and Redbone was the band that played at my Senior Prom. Great sound, talented musicians, great arrangement. It doesn't get any better!
Redbone played your Senior Prom? Yeah, your class got spoiled early! I met them several years later & they were some of the nicest musicians I ever met. Total gentlemen. I only wish the dancer would have danced longer. Damn he was GREAT!
I’m 62 years old and remember this as a super hit on AM Radio…. I’m proud to have served in the USMC with so many Navajo Men in the early 80’s. Great Hunter Warriors!
I was 22 when Redbone had this hit. Boomers were progressive. We embraced differences. We marched for equality, to end war, to save the planet. What happened to all those ideals. I'm still "woke". Don't succumb to right wing ideologies.
I'm 72 but whenever I hear this song it brings me right back to the days I had just returned from Vietnam and was in college. Great song performed by some of the greatest musicians from that era! They made all Native Americans proud, I am sure!
As a old white grandma who grew up in Ma going to the the "Plymouth Plantation" and the "Plymouth Rock" i was disgusted to find the truth. Appalled that I wasn't taught the truth, and seeing the ugly consequences of it now makes me literally vomit🤮🤢@@DanielAppleton-lr9eq
Me too! , I FEEL LIKE I WAS SOMEHOW RELATED TO YOU GUYS, EVEN BEING A WHITE PERSON, IT'S WEIRD, I FEEL CONNECTED TO SOMETHING, CAN'T EXPLAIN IT, BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER!!
Grew up listening to this song but never knew the band was native. That’s awesome!!! The dance in the beginning was everything. Love to see people celebrating their culture, especially indigenous people in the Americas.
Have loved this song since it came out when i was 16... It has been my ring tone for 10 years... I"m 62 years old and the old music is still the best......
@@ItsJadieGemstone-kg5fp I wish I was born right after WWII in America..imagine seeing all the positive changes, new technology, social changes (some good, some bad), classic cars coming out in their hey day, awesome music from the 50s thru the 70s, the healthier food the country was producing, and simpler times (aside from the Cold war fear of that era)..
I too thought they were a black band when I first heard this song. I got Time/Life Sounds of the 70s CD that had this song and had their picture in the booklet that came with the CDs and saw that they were Native Americans. I was surprised.
@@jasonwhite8441 they dont usually say the name of the band when you hear the song. It's a really famous song that I bet most that listen to it are like that^
Here! Here! TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT!Is there any way to make that happen? These young men were so talented & ground-breaking. I still have a couple of their vinyl albums that I bought in early 70’s.
THEY KNEW! THEY ARE THE PEOPLE! THEY ARE NOT WAITING FOR EDIFICATION, THEY ARE WARRIORS! THE FIRST PEOPLE ON THIS MOTHER EARTH FROM TIP TO TOE FROM ONE SIDE N THE OTHER ARE THE EVERYTHING🐺🐴🦌🦬🐰🦫🐻🐻❄🦦🦨🦅🪶🐢🐳🦭🌽🫐🍓🥬🦞🦀🌠🌌🌫🌬🌀❄☀
I’m 54 and Big Fan of Redbone bc of my childhood in the 70s I asked my 20 yr old do u know this band -He Knew 😮 bc of the Movie Guardians of the Galaxy I was shocked so Happy the Band got extra fame in this Generationplus that my sons recognise Excellent music and musicians 🙏🏽♥️ Plus iv never seen the guardians of the galaxy movies, yet I will, though in the next week or two😱😣🫨🤣♥️
Funny I always thought this song was from some band like those that made dirty dancing sound track, African American group , and I am super excited right now that I found out this band is formed by Native Americans.❤️
@@edenhaile6356 "The word "redbone" is a Cajun term for a mixed-race person, which the band adopted to signify their mixed ancestry. The Vasquez-Vegas brothers were of Yaqui, Shoshone, and Mexican heritage."
When I was a dumb little kid in the 70s I thought they were saying “ come and get your lunch” until my older brother corrected me and reminded me what a moron I was!😂
This such a favorite for me. I purchased it immediately after hearing on my radio decades ago. I’m 78 and still find it here to watch. The young people reacting to it are funny. They can’t believe how great it is. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
To Burt Sugarman's credit, he insisted that all the bands on "Midnight Special" had to play live on his show. Redbone brought it, and nailed that thang.
I read that Redbone was the first Native American band to hit the Billboard Top 5! Has there been another one since? I doubt it. I absolutely LOVE the way you opened your appearance on The Midnight Special! The footwork is absolutely amazing. I have seen Native American dancers many times, and this is one of the best performances I've ever seen.
My dad signed them to Epic Records when he ran A&R, nurtured their career and even toured with them. They became family friends, and will forever remain close to my heart! I recently went back and listened to some of the old records -- damn, they were FUNKY!! RIP Lolly and Tony.
Amen, brother! The 70's were the best! Definitely way better than the '20's!!! Without a doubt! The younger ones can call it cheesy or whatever! We sure as heck weren't shooting our friends in grade school! We had sense & respect!
I remember and love this song. I remember seeing this on The Midnight Special. We were lucky in the 70s. Every Friday night we’d get a TV concert of great music!
Amazing how they add that spiritual native touch to rock n roll the way they did. You can hear generations of native music shine through and blend beautifully with the rock tones.
Once upon a time, there ws happy positive music. This song always made me smile. Not many played LIVE on 'The MIdnight Special'. Redbone did. So lucky to grow up hearing great music like this. Original.
Man saw so many great musical acts on The Midnight Special it was like going to a rock show right in your own living room, Red Bone, Frampton and so many many more, great stuff!
heaps of love from Aotearoa New Zealand this song holds a special place in my heart... the love you desire is ready, all you need to do is come and get your love 2024 and forevr more
@@acidrat420Ya know, you're right. But you have to admit, there isn't much out there that can compare to music from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Today's music is different for sure but has the tendency to lose some heart.
Back in the day this was the JAM!! I love these guys, so Freaking cool, and they represented their culture with absolute PRIDE. Just added this to my playlist. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
My little brother Scott Perdue RIP was comforted by this song when I sang it to him when he was in late stages of alzheimer's and it calmed him down ! Thank you Redbone for the great music !
I had just Graduated from High school in 73, when this song came out I was hooked. I love watching Saturday night Special, with Wolf man fox, this was thire only hit song, other than day to day life. I was 18teen and this was 50 years ago, I play it when I play songs from the 70s. On u tube music. and when it does come up I turn it up. 😊
@@justinb1382videocassette recorder (VCR) or video recorder is an electromechanical device that records analog audio and analog video from broadcast television or other source on a removable, magnetic tape videocassette, and can play back the recording. Use of a VCR to record a television program to play back at a more convenient time is commonly referred to as timeshifting. VCRs can also play back prerecorded tapes. In the 1980s and 1990s, prerecorded videotapes were widely available for purchase and rental, and blank tapes were sold to make recordings.
@@justinb1382I would also like to tell you cause my dad have it and live it for almost 40 years or more something like that? But we sadly thrown it out cause it's old and rusty I was fascinated about the technology of the 70s and the 80s same with the 90s and the millenniums. Stuffs like that.
As a teen here in 2024 in a DJ class I told my instructor this: “I’m choosing Redbone’s Come and Get Your Love no matter what. This is what I’m going to choose.” Best decision ever! During my debut performance it was a HIT!!! Love this band! Love this song!! I too am American Indian and Mexican American. I’m unsure as to what tribe. Still trying to figure it out. Being mixed race is beautiful but harsh! (A thank you to kmns4696 for the correction👍)
Old lady here, raised around Native Americians. You are an Americian Indian not indigenous, why? Because there are indigenous people all over the world. Americian Indians, well, they are only in one place. That makes them percious. You are an Anerician Indian. No where else in the world holds your ancestry. Make it special make it unique, because you are.
Nunca dejarás de ser nativoamericano, estés donde estés . Yo soy de la etnia Cochimi de la Península de Baja California, Auka . Y Redbon me llena de orgullo por ser nativos tanto de EEUU, como de México.
Many good memories for me. I have been told by my father he was 1/2 Sioux or otherwise know as Lakota. Why don’t the tribes make more noise about their needs and wants? Not going to get more political here.
I can recall seeing this on TV the night it was broadcasted. Always liked this song and glad it's passed the test of time. It never really went away. Definitely one of my favorite songs from that time period.
This song used to play a lot on my dad's restaurant jukebox. I had no idea they were First Nations until this video, where the song became infamous from the soundtrack of Guardians of the Galaxy. First thing I did was learn how to play this song on guitar. I grew up with the Ojibway First Nations people in Northern Ontario Canada. Played a lot of hockey with them.
I was so young when this song came out I didn't know the name. After 3 decades I found it. I am ecstatic! This is on 2 of my RU-vid list of songs. I even found Pat and Lolly singing back in the 60's. I play this song up to 5 times a day.....lol.
@@wandaperez2699 Wow! I was 14 too! I just loved it but didn't understand much of the lyrics because English was not my language yet. I didn't know they were First Nations and Latinos, just learned it a few years ago. They were one of my favorite bands (still!)
It's great finding other people whom love some of the same songs or music! I'm not sure if any of you can see my music playlist? Check out my 70's -90's PLAYLIST. Respond if you like!
