If he doesn't, they're going to have an exciting married life. (If he DOESN'T ask her to marry him at least twice a day, he's crazy. And she could do a helluva lot worse than Darren.)
A very kind and gracious whiskey enthusiast gave me a tipple of Redbreast 27 before and it was definitely one of the most amazing whiskeys I've ever had! 👏
Howdy Darren!! Love your vids & Griannia is always a hoot in her roles!! Big bear hugs to you both from Kenny in Ohio USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here in the US I was happy to find a Redbreast 12 (after watching you talk about it in a recently released video 'elsewhere') and enjoyed it greatly! It took The Algorithm (all hail THE ALGORITHM) a few weeks to send me this way, but it has finally! As always your humor and educational nature are both a delight! (plus Gráinne!)
I'm SO loving these videos! The only bad thing I can complain about is that they are too short and too infrequent. Overall, though, these videos are better than I thought they would be. Can't wait for more!
I love every single thing about your videos. The information, the comedy, the duration, the music!! Look forward to them Friday!! Cheers from dirty Jerz USA!!
I love that Darren is providing the world with these videos. Those of us who love whiskey (myself included), I have to say that Darren has always been a font of information about this beloved beverage on the Try Channel, but seeing these videos (including the lovely and talented Grainne), is always a plus. Darren, will you do a video highlighting the best bourbons? I'm a British/American (don't hate my heritage, my Grandmother was Irish, she was from Inishmaan), but I know zilch about decent bourbons, and I don't trust the advice from Americans (most of them are full of shite).
One of the best Scotches Ive ever had, my father, for his 84th birthday, just bought a 33 year old Glen Moray from the single malt whiskey society of america. And he only splurged because he had a 33 % off birthday coupon. And it was still $500. But I ewill admit, it was almost a religious experience. I doubt I'd ever be able to taste the Redbreast 27, but if a bar ever offers it, I might be tempted to buy a shot.
Picked one up last year for $550 from Total Wine. About a month later, that same store had it listed for $1099. Got it at just the right time! Oh, and it is incredible!
I find it funny, love your channel btw! But anyways, when i see you on irish people try channel i don't hear your accent, but i can't miss it here =D You are a whiskey master btw!
Absolutely loving the Irish Whiskey love. Irish Whiskey is my absolute favorite even though it’s difficult to find here in the States. Waterford is a must try although it’s quite a bit younger and much more Scottish in its presentation IMO. I always have some bottles of redbreast in my house.
The best Whisky you have had, that says a lot for it. For me, the best I have had was an exceptionally rare treat I found back in '99. A very limited release from Glenlochy, a silent distillery. A 1969, 25 yr old. I am hoping to win a small lottery to afford another bottle through auction if I can find one available...there is one going for 1795 euro on one of the online auction sites right now but the lottery thing has not come in yet! lol
Darren, I purchased a bottle of RB27 but I have never opened it. In the US this bottle is near $1000. I hope to open it soon, but I need to find, a back up, and on offer. The last bottle cost about ~450 USD so it seemed a good deal. Still I have a hard time believing this will beat Blue spot for value ( I hope I am wrong). PS You need to be careful with those Cork people (great city).
One last question? What batch of RB27 did you try? I tried batch 3 and it was heavy on the grapefruit taste. It literally left a sour taste in my mouth. Batch 1,2, and 4 were great. Just a side note WD O'Connell is my favorite bonder.
Thanks for the video sir. I recently had the luck to try Redbreast 12 for the first time and it was ..... staggering. I know on a quest to try each that they offer and your feedback on the 27 just heightens my desire to do so. Thanks again for the amazing vids and whiskey knowledge and opinions.
My impossible grail is actually a redbreast. A whiskey mentor of mine gave me a small thimble full of whiskey one morning saying "here's a little breakfast whiskey to get started before we do tastings all day" The moment I got it on my tongue I knew the magnificent bastard had slipped me something special. a citrus Juicy and sweet cream it was a delight. It was only a few hours later that he told us it was a bottle my mentor had been allowed to fill directly from a 24 year old red breast barrel. If you know how redbreast is done you'll know exactly why I said this grail is almost 99.99% impossible to get. A -single barrel- bottling of red breast does not exist, let alone at that age.
I love your 60s soul music soundtracks. I glad to find a RU-vid channel devoted to Irish Whiskey and you're doing it well. Any chance of showcasing the best pubs in the area?
Thanks so much! The 60s soul is inspired by “I Think You Should Leave” of all things. Will definitely do a feature on great whiskey bars at some point. But the 3 pubs I’ve filmed in so far, The Stags Head, The International, and The Duke, are all fantastic pubs and well worth a visit while in Dublin.
It is one of the top whiskies ever! I own a bottle but pad just over 300 Euros for it. I will get another when this one is gone. The RedBreast 15 is also amazing and closest to the 27 IMHO
It's all of the hidden bits that I love about the production of this show. Who paid attention to the Darren in the top right window near the beginning? And that comment about Cork ... man, you shouldn't pop off like that in front of Grainne.
Never tried Kentucky Oak as I don’t think they did an Irish release of it. I’ll be in the states in September so it’s on my list of whiskeys to try find.
This yank discovered Redbreast when I was working in Cork and Galway (Cheers Con!) and the 12 is my favorite libation. Blackbush being the my 2nd choice. The only problem with these is you have to be VERY careful if/how you order them in the States. 🤭
I really like the RedBreast range, i've tried most of them other than the 27. A tawny port finished one just recently started showing up here in the states and it is pretty tasty. I would put cask strength or port finish > the 15 all day.
*Great video as always.* The only nick is going to the same well twice on the fumbled drop. OK, the first time was _humorous,_ but the second was unbelievable as there is no way, even if you were totally hammered, you would drop a RB27 bottle. ;-)
We have to get you both to visit the Whiskey Tribe and see how you mesh with Rex and Briana. Although I wonder if it would be too whiskey to chance that much whiskey chaos in one place.
I have not had the 27 as of yet. I have tried the rest of the core, up to the 21. They have a Tawny Port I would love to try one day, and of course the 10 yr old only available in Ireland. Slainte.
21 also holds a special place in my heart. It was the first “big” bottle I ever bought for myself so I always like to have a bottle of it on hand. Tawny and 10 are also lovely but actually quite difficult to get in Ireland.
I could afford the 12, would maybe splurge on the 15 for a special holiday, would feel nothing but guilt if I bought the 21, and no way could ever justify a $1k bottle of 27. Long story short, I’ll have to pick up a bottle of 12 next time I’m out!
Is the 27 the only one in the line finished in other casks? I've had the 12 and loved it. Would love to try a Redbreast aged in other things but for $650, uh no. And, as with all the other vids, awesome music choice.
Much appreciated! Of the core range it’s the only one with a cask other than bourbon and Sherry. But other limited edition Redbreasts have used port as well.
Dropping your booze is the first sign of old age , Darren ! 😂😂😂 Unfortunately that's out of my price range !😢 Have you tried Clan MacGregor blened Scotch Whiskey ? That's my favorite !!
So honestly had not come across him before, but since starting the videos I’ve just found his music fits the vibe so have stuck with it. I’m sure I’ll change it up eventually but for the moment I think Eddie Floyd fits great.
I got my motorbike nicked in Cork. I hadn't emptied my top box, so the bastards got my Sketch book, camera and rolls and rolls of film( Back before digital, Whaaaaaat?!?!?). Even with that, I prefer Cork over Dublin. Maybe let Grainne handle the bottles from here on out. Your hands are more suited to glasses, not bottles.
