RB27 is one of the best whiskey's on the market hands down. Head to head against pappy 15 and its very close but rb comes out on top for me. One quick tip if you buy RB27 open it and do a neck pour and then shelve it for 30 days then come back to it. The first pour is a bit disappointing but 30 days later holy cow, amazing.

Oh man! I'm happy you guys liked it because I definitely did not! Not only is this the most expensive bottle in my collection, but it's my least favorite in my collection. This was batch 3 and I think they might be up to batch 5 or 6 now. I always think that something went wrong with the bottle because I pick up a bitter grapefruit pith note. Maybe that's the age coming through? I'm tempted to get another bottle, but don't have the guts or the budget to find out.

We hear ya! And for some reason fruit-based bitterness doesn’t bother us as much as tannic bitterness. It was an incredibly fun sample to try for sure. Thank you so much for making this possible!

A guy opened up batch 3 at the liquor store I worked at and I really didn't like it either. The Glenfiddich 26 he opened at the same time? That one blew me away.

RB27 is a great whiskey. I have a bottle that I surprised a close friend with at a tasting and we both loved it. It's pricey, but it's the only time I've ever though....yeah....this is worth the price. Would I buy it again, maybe......

Redbreast 27 in my area is a paltry $650. I can't believe you guys gave it a thumbs down without looking at it from a practical approach - If you squirrel away $30 of your normal whiskey every month for only 24 short months you can essentially buy one of these for free because it's already paid for. But wait, there's more! I love Redbreast and I haven't had the 21 or 27 year, however, I do plan on acquiring one for very special occasions. I sure would like to try them before buying though.

I’m glad to hear your review of this. I was going to buy a bottle, because I love redbreast (especially the 12yr cask strength) but I had the opportunity to try this at a bar ($50 an ounce). The initial red fruit sweetness was amazing, but the abrupt transition into an overly oaked bitter tannin flavor on the finish made me glad I didn’t spend that much on a bottle I don’t like.
@stuffandwhiskey
@stuffandwhiskey Год назад
Would be interesting to know if it was the same batch. We don’t love overly tannic pours and didn’t get that on this one at all (oak was present and prominent but it didn’t lean bitter or tannic).

My taste was all papaya and mango... Love it. If i could guarantee that tasting note (Shane, Storytime distilling: what batch was that?), I'd buy at $650.

I just had the chance to try this for the first time. I expected to love it as I enjoy Irish whiskeys. Was it good, yes. Did it live up to my expectations for all I've heard about it - no. It's really good yet I found out it's not one I would choose to pay retail for. I fully expected to disagree with your review once I finally tasted it but I have to agree with you. The more whiskeys I try the more I find that my tastes align with those bottles both of you enjoy. It's a case that trying something in a bar really pays dividends.

The most I've paid for a bottle has been $200 (though I did pay $150 for 375ml 32yr old...) For me, the high end pricing bracket ends at the $300 mark. And at that price, it's going to be for several reasons predicated on anything but hoping to taste the nectar of the gods. I caaan see a future where I buy a bottle between $300 and $600. But in my experience, I can blindly swear up and down that I'll definitely be able to get a bottle that's just as good for $150~$250; and I could do that without having to hunt high and low for it.

@neilrobertson6849
@neilrobertson6849 Год назад
Yeah, I'd stick with the 15 year - much better than the 12 year which (hot take alert) is overrated. $680 is light years outside my comfort zone.
@heatherharrison264

So far, my record is $400, and up to this point, I have viewed this price point as a hard limit. It is a bottle from the same distillery - one of the Midleton Very Rare Dair Ghaelach series. It meets my standard for a bottle of hard liquor that is over $200, which is a combination of exceptional quality and a unique experience. I suspect that Redbreast 27 would also meet this standard, but for the price, I could get two or three other bottles of exceptional and unique booze, so it might be hard to justify. As the cost goes up, you eventually get past the point of diminishing returns. If I had a lot of money to burn, I might be tempted by this, especially since I have another bottle from this distillery that I think is worth a high price, but it would be hard to talk myself into it. If you want an interesting Redbreast for a much better price, try the 15-year. It is readily available and sometimes turns up in bars. Also, I recently found it in a Redbreast mini-bottle sampler box at Target, of all places. Very old Scotch and Irish whiskies tend to get expensive, and I find that the price really starts to shoot up when the age is over 18 years. There are some relatively good values to be had, however. Independent bottlings of older single malt Scotch are almost always far less costly than comparably aged official bottlings, and they can be better choices since, depending on the distillery, the official bottling might be proofed down and chill filtered, while the independent bottlings are often cask strength, non chill filtered, and not colored. The downside to independent bottlings is that they might not be the best barrels, as the distilleries are bound to keep the best ones for themselves. I have an independent Glen Grant 25-year that was less than $250. It is a single barrel release from a refill bourbon hogshead. This is a less active sort of cask, but it is interesting because it shows how the malt profile ages and mellows over a very long time with limited wood influence. Unfortunately, in the United States, independent bottlings of Scotch aren't nearly as available as they are in the UK, but they show up from time to time, and they are the least expensive way to try whisky of an advanced age.
@stuffandwhiskey
@stuffandwhiskey Год назад
Great comment! We don’t see any independent bottlings in our local market but were just visiting Chicago and saw plenty. Grabbed some and wanted more. Definitely will be keeping an eye out for them every chance we get!

Man you guys are getting wishy washy when you find out what it is and start liking the liquid more than you did when you blinded it. Stay strong and ERIN has it right. To be wishy washy is to be unkind by not telling us what you really feel, even after you know what it is. If you don't like it... you don't like it no matter the price, brand, hype or unicorn status. You guys try things I may never try, but we are going off of many things that you put out during the blind because it is the most honest reaction that I see. Still love you guys though. Your content is cool.
