Reddish Egrets are unlike others in the heron family. Instead of standing frozen waiting for prey, the Reddish prances and flutters like a court jester/Baryshnikov. (Filmed at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, FL)
Thank your praise, and for letting me know that you will be watching more of my movies. I love making them so I want to know that people are enjoying them.
Yep. Of course I think most birds are fantastic in one way or another, but the Reddish Egret now, well, he practically waves his arms in the air to get our attention.
+Sean Hollowed Whoa, Sean, that feels great to get such stellar praise! I'm a white female, but when I narrate, I ask myself "How would Morgan Freeman say this?" Try wrapping your head around that anomaly! ;-) Thank you for subscribing. I think you'll find other stellar films if you browse a bit on my channel. And I'll be posting another eight films from footage I took in Florida last month.
+Jo Alwood (BIRDS AND THEN SOME) Definitely! Florida is a wonderful goldmine for birding, I spent a lot of my time photographing the wildlife when I visited my grandmother over the holidays. I live in Ohio currently and it's night and day difference compared to Florida. I'm excited to see more from you! :D
+Sean Hollowed Night and day difference is right. Some of the birds in Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge will practically let you pet them. I'm working on a movie now that shows Snowy Egrees squabbling over roosting places in the late afternoon.
I love your narration! I'm angry that they were nearly wiped out for such a stupid reason, though. I hope their numbers recover. I'm not sure why they don't show up in CA or anywhere along the gulf of Mexico, there's lots of habitat like that. I grew up next to one such brackish estuary, I can totally see these wonderful clumsy dancers pirouetting all over the place there!
I’m glad you appreciated the narration. Thank you. If I remember correctly, there is a tiny colony of them somewhere on the coast of Southern California or maybe Baja. But I don’t recall exactly where. I didn’t mention that in the narration in the interest of saving time.
+Deb Boudra Deb, I'm delighted to hear from you. I wish I had a picture of you, so I'd know which of the dozens of people I talked to and handed cards to actually checked out my channel. Thank you for writing to let me know that you had. Right now I'm working on a film about Cormorants fishing. It's gonna be a good one!
+Rose McClarren Careful, now, Rose, you'll give me a swelled head! Seriously, though, thank you for the compliment. I'm glad you're enjoying my movies.
Great filming, Jo. I really love the herons and Egrets, but unfortunately have never had the privileged to watch them. This was a nice treat to see. It is truly amazing how still the herons can stay, like you said, "this isn't a still image" but you'd honestly think it was until it moves. What a skill. And the egrets, well they sure put on a show don't they? Always awesome watching how different birds behave. By the way what do you use to record your voice. I'm having some awful time with getting my voice to be loud enough, and I always seem to have that horrible hissing noise. Any tips?
+LesleytheBirdNerd You have my sympathy, Lesley, if you never get to watch herons. I can't pick favorites, but all of the herons appeal to me very much. Are you using headphones to record? My voice sounded much less tinny once I made that adjustment. And I also have the option in my editing software (Final Cut) to have the hissing cut out. I use that option on every audio clip. I have no idea whether that capability is included in most other editing software.
I hear ya, Herons are very cool birds indeed. Love them. aahhh, I see. I think it's about time I get this final cut editing software, I'm still using that darn useless Movie maker, lol. And I use a mic, called blue spark. Supposed to be good. I do all my recording in a large room, so I bet that is a lot of why the voice recording isn't as good as it could be. I maybe need to do a little revision. Thanks for your response. Have a great evening!
+LesleytheBirdNerd Let me know if you do try Final Cut. It'll require a learning curve, but it does give you more control over the final product. I'll help you out with it if I can, but I'm not an expert. Anyway, have a nice evening yourself.
Aww Jo. That's so kind of you to offer your help. Thanks I really appreciate that. Hopefully I won't need to bother you though :) But if I do I will be sure to be in touch.
+LesleytheBirdNerd I needed help from the trainers at the Apple Store to learn how to use Final Cut, so I know you'll want some help. Seriously, I'll help you if I can.
Love this! I did read that the crazy dance is partly to use their wings to create shadows so they can see their prey better in the water. Not sure how true but sounds good.
Well dadgummit, I can't answer you! Much as I enjoy corresponding with commenters, I can't type right now because I just had carpal tunnel syndrome repaired. All I can do is paste this explanation and hope that maybe sometime in September I can type again.
