I think OP's mom got all bent when she found out the he became a she in the middle of the story.

I think the part that gets me is that OP and his sons drove eight (8!) hours to the graduation celebration at his mom's house and then his mom then insisted that he move his car out of the driveway so Lily, her NEIGHBOR, could have that spot.

her own kids not speaking the language and knowing the culture is kinda the parents fault, putting the neighbor before your own family is sucky. OP is not the AH

Ops mom knew what she was choosing to do when she gave her bio grandsons $300 for graduation and took her neighbors daughter to Europe for graduation. Op said he lives 8 hours away, which mom will probably use as a crutch as to why she’s so close to lily… and not see that op probably moved 8 hours away because mom preferred the female neighbors to her own sons.

As someone who grew up dealing with a kinda similar situation with my maternal grandmother, I can tell you from experience that the kids probably think that grandma doesn't like them. My grandma used to never give me or any of my siblings any gifts, for either Christmas or birthdays. All we got was a card that occasionally had a few bucks in it ($5-$10) and that was it. Meanwhile, our cousins got multiple presents each and tended to get way more attention from our grandma as a whole. As adults, we learned that she did this because my cousins came from an unstable home and were relatively poor. so she felt she needed to provide more for them since they had more of a need while our family was more of your standard, happy, middle-class suburban family. And while as an adult I can agree and sympathize with her decision, if maybe not to the extreme she took it, growing up we always thought our grandma just didn't like us. I always felt uncomfortable around her because it felt like she hated us for some unknown reason and I kinda felt like a stranger to my own grandma. And you can easily start to build resentment as a response. In favoring her neighbor's daughter over her own grandchildren and sons she's burning down all her bridges to her actual family and is just breeding resentment and causing hurt feelings. it's fine if she wants to create a surrogate family relationship with the neighbor and her daughter but to show such blatant favoritism just sends the message to her actual family that she doesn't love them or value them on the same level.

Curious what the mom of the daughter that got a trip to Europe thinks of this? Like here take my child whilst I don't parent??? Or thanks for helping but maybe look after your own kids? Hmm

The fact that her children k ow she wanted girls and didn't get them and it'd noticeable in how they were raised without her and the father attempting to teach them their culture makes them bad parents. Her going out of her way to immerse someone who isn't her family in her in her husband's culture and actively treats that person better than she treats her own family makes them AH.

OP’s mom is an AH…& hurtful…she’s pretty much crapped on herself with her family….&, that’s her Own Fault 🤬🤬😡😡‼️. She’s up for NC for this treatment…what a B🤬‼️

OP did overreact, but there was a reason he did and it sounds like Mom doesn't have a clue how hurt her son is by the favoritism so OP needs to be very clear about that with her.
