Awwww....well that's a bummer if they do have this defect. Poor Dopey and Reddy. Thanks for investigating and explaining but now I'm sad thinking about it. :'( Awwwww. On another note; thanks for taking your time to get such great footage and posting the videos. I also love when you add your snippets and sound effects, like when Dopey bit the adult male' s nuts and got whacked! I felt bad for Dopey but it was funny and your effects made me laugh harder. Again thanks for the videos.

I'm enjoying these older videos of the earlier years, thanks Arroz for having started the journey to share them with us. Especially those adorable and sweet baby monkeys that I can't get enough of! 💞🐒💞

Arroz Marisco - (ShannonDamnit + kkossor) -- I don't know if Arroz realizes how big an impact his videos have made on us .... on me. Every night I am taken to a forest halfway around the world and have a friendship with a few monkeys and their adorable babies. As I watch and read the comments, I don't feel like I am reading... I feel like I am sitting quietly next to a friend. I didn't realize how deeply I had been pulled into this world until I watched this video. I was shocked by my emotions and tried to explain why I couldn't stop crying! I sounded like I was talking about close family. I realize now, that's exactly how I feel about Dopey and Reddy....and Dolly and Batty and Bossy and Bossy Jr.... and the first baby I fell in love with from Monkey Hill, years ago, Stumpy. So YES - Anything I can do to help Arroz get started setting up a paypal account... count me in. I would be thrilled knowing that maybe a few dollars I sent were used to buy corn or grapes, or maybe just helping Arroz stay a little longer on Monkey Hill.

Something tells me with your publishing of videos weeks behind...you already know something and want to prepare us for a heartbreak. I hope I am wrong. I have thought a few times while watching your videos that something bad could happen because I've heard 1 in 3 babies don't make it and how hard that would be to accept after falling in love with them. I must admit I am sitting here with tears in my eyes and a heavy heart, but remind myself this is natures way. Nature is beautiful yet can be painful. If Dopey doesn't live past a year I am thankful to have watched him and witnessed Reddy's love for him. Arroz thank you for being brave enough to be honest with us no matter how painful it might be.

whatever the outcome is to be, or already has come to pass, thank you so much for taking the time to chronicle this tiny monkey and his mum. I have come here so often to laugh or to ponder over Dopey and his odd little ways but I never thought about why there were no siblings as Reddy is not a young appearing mum. What an adventure we are all sharing, thanks to your hiking and camera. At least his tiny life has counted so largely with so many of us. not many can have that for a legacy.

Reddy always seems to be sad. Not just an ordinary sad, but something that is deep down, like she knows that she will not have her babies for long, so she cherishes them, and loves them deeply for as long as she has them. Thanks to you, we can do the same.

I've gotta say, Reddy makes some cute monkey babies, and they all looked almost identical, it was like watching future versions of Dopey! I have to admit though, I think the little girl was the cutest of them all! I want to go find the old videos and watch more, but I'm also afraid of finding something that perhaps you didn't mention. Hmph.

Arroz,thank you for all of your beautiful videos. If Reddy is passing on some kind of gene defect, and her babies have died, this would explain why she's so tolerant and loving with Dopey. She doesn't want to lose him too😔 She's a beautiful momma.

What an interesting video! It answered my question about poisonous plants. I hope you still make time for still photos. I use to take beautiful landscape photos from old calendars, just to hold on to them. I wanted to say more, but I have to go. Thank you for sharing the beginnings.

Thank you for the interesting history. The macaque mom's really do have baby after baby. I don't understand how some moms nurse up to three years of age, but other moms with smaller babies to nurse don't also nurse the 1,2,3 year olds. Very interesting. I hope Dopey lives a long life!

That explains Reddy's extra loving nature and patience...allowing babies to nurse longer. Lets hope we don't loose little Dopey the same way his brother and sister were. Pompe Disease would explain everything about Dopey and Reddy. I wonder if Reddy is just a carrier? Whatever the case...I feel like we're being prepped for some very awful news. I loved Reddy and Dopey from the time you first introduced us to them. Thank you very much for you work. Wish a vet could come and take a tissue sample to know for sure. The heartbreak and stress Reddy must be suffering has to be aging her more rapidly than the other mom's.

I was holding my breath waiting.......for I had in my mind that the baby snatcher had taken both babies, since the first was a boy and the second was a girl. Now I am going back and try to find those clips . What sadness ! Thanks for added news.

I have trouble and I feel a great sadness like many of you here. It is always nice to see the pretty little face of the too cute "Dopey" of Reddy his mom "and all that little world that we discovered so nicely with Arroz. And then over time with the videos on the life of Dopey and his marvelous and docile mom and always with the small care ... Reddy's sweetness to his little one of the privileged moments that our souls have captured and which today moves us a little more. Dopey entered our life by the Arroz videos that he shared regularly for our great pleasure.I like all of you here have done it to thank him deeply for all this work has been providing conscientiously for many months to see years. That Dopey will come out of it and whatever happens to his destiny it will remain engraved in my heart as well as Reddy so devoted and loving.This is the image I would keep from them ... I stop there because I do not see much more tears flow on these last words. I hope that the best remains to come from Monkey Hills....

Omgoodness in the last video im pretty sure that was Berty babysitting her sister. Great video! There have been a gew videos early on that I have noticed a few videos that look like some of out gang and skullheads troop! Thankfully ever since Dopey's birth all of her babies have survived and thrived! She now has Dopey, Dimpy and Dipsy❤

this video makes me realize that we will be lucky if one of our babies is still around in the spring its sad how few of these live to be two year olds and how very few become adults

Alas my longtime curiousity comes to an end. I had a feeling this wasn't her first round. She's too good, so patient. But I'd thought it was perhaps an older brother, by 4,5, or 6 years where he'd naturally be gone. Certainly not this. Poor Reddy :( it's amazing you had all of this footage - all the answers - right there. Thanks for taking the time to investigate, I kinda wish I didn't know though. What led you to Pompe's btw? That, sadly, looks like it could be the culprit. I'm no geneticist, but wouldn't this mean that the previous two kids had the same dad? Or at least their dad's both had the gene. And likewise, wouldn't the father of Dopey also have to carry the gene? It's sad, Reddy has no idea what's happening or why. It's amazing that after two tragedies that she isn't more like Knotty"s mom. Whew. If you're right, this is going to get hard to watch. :/

After some research on the 'net, I discovered a site that demonstrated that Pompe's disease does occur naturally in Finnish Lapphunds. The disease is recessive, meaning that both parents must carry the gene. (So, Skullhead, or other father is also responsible for the condition.) Here is a link to that site: www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2013/02/130217083909.htm Most of the sites I encountered were involving animal research, with the objective of giving the animals the disease, then trying to cure it. I wanted to see if I could find instances of naturally occuring Pompe's disease in animals. It seem that it does exist, and just has not been noticed in other animals. Arroz, have you considered taking your suspicions to a primate facility, (the good guys, NOT the ones who use animals for research) to see if they have had any experience with this diseases? Who knows, you just might have discovered something!

And a boy of 2 yrs should still be with Mum... I've watched those videos but it was so long ago... But maybe this is why I have an inexplicable adoration of little Dopey. He looks exactly like his older brother & sister. But I am afraid to keep watching (but of course I will) I've also watched some of your landscape videos & they are quite stunning. Not Dopey...😢 Maybe with all the ears of corn you have given to Reddy, it gave her some of the nutrients she was lacking when she nursed her other two that sadly didn't make it, and hopefully giving Dopey that fighting chance to make it past his 1st Birthday and many more years to come.

I definitely recall the second two videos- I have sketches from those. Now I can realize why I used Dopey as my rhesus toon model; I had already drawn him twice before.

I also was curious if Reddy was in past videos with other babies. The thing that deterred me from thinking so was that I never saw any of Dopey's siblings so I thought maybe it was just a coincidence of a similar looking monkey. Silly me, I just never considered the idea that it was indeed her and that Dopey's siblings just didn't make it. (Perhaps the optimist in me) It is very sad to think about, and Although your observations have often proved to be concise, I hope that in this case you're wrong (for the sake and fate of Dopey.) Thank you again for all that you do, and for settling a mystery that I'm sure many of us viewers were wondering about!

Just looking back on some of your videos,. do you remember "Poor little Damian" published May `16. I know the mother is not Reddy but Damian looks very much the same with the same problems as Dopey. Just wondering if you know what happened to him. Thanks

That is so sad about Reddy and her babies. I hope Dopey survives , poor baby and mama. It's heart breaking, she's such a good mom.

Arroz, I've had the suspicion for a while now that Dopey may not make it. I didn't think Dopey was Reddys first baby & this video proves that. I hope I'm wrong, it would be devastating if Dopey perished. Don't know if it's birth defect or lack of a nipple or both deficiencies coming into play. I've been very concerned about Dopey & I was hoping my feelings were rubbish but now I'm thinking they may not be. I will keep Dopey & Reddy in my prayers & hope that this time this sweet little baby makes it. Thank you Arroz for showing us this. I hope u have a great evening.

Both of Dopey's siblings seem like they were more independent than Dopey was at their age. I have a feeling that may have been what caused their demise. All it would've taken for them to be in mortal danger would be a momentary lapse in attention from Reddy. There are far too many dangers awaiting an adventurous infant.

Curious question but I couldn’t help but notice that Reddy’s little boy from 2014 had some poop part way out. Can they die from being constipated? Seemed as though Reddy had one bad year after another.😢😔

I have been watching your video since 2011. This video is especially get my attention because of Reddy and Dopey. I love them very very much. I see Dpoey and Reddy video several times a day. Could you please provide some nutritioos foods to them. I love them more after seeing Reddy's birth history.

No wonder why Reddy lets Dopey latch on so much longer than the average baby. She's just grateful to have this baby as long as she can. Do you think they all had the same dad?

I STRONGLY believe "Dopey's Sister", that disappeared eas "Baby Solita", who was "dropped-off" to a sanctuary in Cambodia by her human owners that expressed their inability to handle all of the "constant care" Solita required! Solita was about 1-2 months older than the video you have of Dopey's sister. I wrote acomment about how much Baby Dopey looked, acted, & carried himself like Baby Solita did--they could have been TWINS!! My comment was made the day Dopey showed-up after being missing for 2-3 days; it was pouring down rain when he "showed-up". I made the statement I was glad it wasn't Dopey & upon closer scrutiny I thought Dopey was a few shades darker than Solita, but the resemblance between the 2 babies was amazing. I think, possibly, Solita could have been Dopey's older sister--she could have been stolen & sold & taken anywhere! The website where I met "Baby Solita" is the Anghor Wat (I'm sure I murdered the spelling but I think it'll be easy enough for a "native" of the language to figure out). And, I know with absolute certainty the "sancturary" is located in Cambodia at a " legendary temple". I could be badly mistaken because of the "timelines" envolved & I think I read later you found the sister in question, even so, it probably wouldn't hurt to take a look for "future reference" if any other baby monkeys disappear mysteriously. It's incredible, they're so human like! Reddy constantly having to go get her baby off the cliff she keeps climbing. It's exactly like chasing a toddler around. It's really amazing to see! The LTs and PTs, yea they're human like but you can also really see the animal side of them with the nasty behavior they take part in which most likely has been influenced by humans. These guys haven't been tainted by a bunch of people trying to use them for cash. They've been protected and it shows. They're just so beautiful to watch.

Hi Sochhum, I watched a video earlier today called "A Grieving Mother". Dated October 16,2015. It was repost of your work. The mother monkey looked like Reddy and the dead infant was baby girl. The baby had been killed during a fight between groups for territory. Take a look and let us know if it was Dopey's older sister. Thanks, enjoy your work.

I've always felt before now that Dopey, Knotty, & Micky won't make it through this upcoming Winter. I could be wrong but the lack of attention from Knotty's semi-absent Mom & Mickey because he was born so late in the year.

2021 and Dopey, Dipsy, Dimpy and Dinky are 1 year and older. So it may have just been bad luck to lose 2 babies in a row.

It's definitely true in regards to the odds are against her. She may be passing down some type of disorder that she miraculously lived through - from her parents. But I honestly feel the baby snatcher took Reddy's daughter and that is the girl she is always with till this day? Or is the one infant/toddler she recently had was dopey's age? Don't recall... I recall the baby snatcher always surrounding her self around Reddy's little girl and potentially could have gotten pregnant but lost the baby which gave her the ability to adopt and nurse Reddy's daughter? I believe I saw somewhere in a documentary about macaques that; they can nurse or develop milk at some points of their life where they are capable of nursing without having a baby or start during early pregnancy's. I don't remember but if you notice - I've NEVER seen baby snatcher mate in any video but always around infants. She may have had that birth control procedure for monkeys done on her and it affected her to where she is unable to birth a child which is why she trys to kidnap/adopt other infants? I mean, there are many possibilities - I don't necessary think the baby's died - due to their surrounding habitat and always being fed...

Oh dear very sad indeed it certainly looks like Pompe`s disease although I can`t find any reading of this in Monkeys. It would explain the tiredness and need to nurse more also the inaablelity of Dopey to keep up with the others. I did wonder at one time if it was something to do with the SpayVac but that would not be isolated to Reddy and her offspring. Let`s make the best of him while we have him and thanks to Arroz we will have him for as long as the video are on RU-vid. The really downside is Reddy will keep on producing time limited baby`s for as she is fertile, the upside of this is that the disease will not be past on through her offspring. :-(

I was just thinking( is Dopey, Reddies only child) wow now I am sorry to know the truth! I would sure hate for her to loose Dopey! She is a wonderful momma! I still think it's possible Dopey suckles all the time is that he is not getting his fill with just one teat! She does not have enough milk. So not enough nutrients! And it seems Arroz is right, all her babies are a bit clumsy! Dopey has been the worst so far! Not very bright either! I am so sad!

I thought Dopey was premature. It all makes sense now. Reddy is such a sweet momma! She is so patient and tender with her babies. It's not a wonder Dopey nurses as much as he does, he has to. Just look at how delicate he is, as if he will always be a baby. Which if he has Pompe's, he will only be a baby. What a blessing that these little ones have Reddy for their mother. Miss Reddy needs a different male.

Do you think it is Pompe due to Dopey being so clumsy? This is so sad , I know very little about glycogen storage disease, I do know it causes an enlarged heart and weak limbs and an infant usually only lives a year , I so hope if Reddy is passing this gene, just maybe it will skip sweet, precious little Dopey...... I have wondered if he was her first baby but her teat looked too stretched for that to be the case,....So Sad :(
