We’re back in the Mt. Whitney Zone and we’re ready to climb Fishhook Arete on Mt. Russell! After bailing on a few climbs the previous year due to altitude sickness, we knew we had to return to get some redemption! And for a little added challenge, we’re going to start the day at the Whitney Portal (8,375 ft) and climb to the top of Mt. Russell (14,094 ft) IN A DAY! With 5 miles of hiking, 5,500 feet of elevation gain, and 1,000 feet of rock climbing, we knew it would be one of the most physically challenging days of our lives! But we were up for the task! Enjoy:)

i tune in, and after, find myself asking, “what. am i doing. w/ my life?” much appreciate the share of yer’ granite adventures. between the views and clinking of the aluminum rack - i’m jealous. nothing beats the alpine - especially in the whitney zone. cheers!

You know… just today I was asking MYSELF “what am I doing with my life?”Cause sometimes making these videos can feel pointless. Like why am I making videos about just climbing rocks. Then I remember the comments and the real human people who get a kick out of these videos and it feels a little more worth it. Glad you’re here. Hope we can keep bringing the stoke to your screen.

So, the two of you are getting some good stuff done! It's your first season high altitude-alpiney climbing. Here's some good news for you. Your bodies will be better at adapting every time you go to altitude. As this season progresses, you'll get stronger. And next year will be better yet. BTW..... keep up the good work.

Climbed Whitney and Russel in the 70's. I have thought of climbing Russel (but just the Class 3 route) to change my comment in the summit register. My surf board wasn't stolen. It blew off my car and a guy actually found it and returned it to me. I doubt I will ever get the chance to change it though.

Guys - if you want to be doing this for a long time you wanna look after those knees. Would highly recommend getting a pair of lightweight trekking poles. You're in a lot of chossy 3rd class approach terrain which can be a nightmare coming down. Having poles is like being like a spider with four points of contact. There's some evidence as well they take the weight off your knees a bit but mostly they provide essential stability for descending down chossy gullies and slopes.
@codyandvictoria
@codyandvictoria Месяц назад
My knees are already so bad 😭 Unfortunately the poles are annoying but maybe one day I’ll go for it
@gnomiefirst9201
@gnomiefirst9201 Месяц назад
@@codyandvictoria I agree, it depends on the terrain. Some terrain they constantly get caught/hung up. Nice job, can't imagine carrying all the overnight gear and bagging a peak the same day and another one the next day. Woot.

Sadly an example of beginners errors. Confident of things one shouldn’t be and not being afraid of things one should be. Altitude sickness is not a joke and you both almost had serious consequences. Not understanding how to acclimate pace rest eat drink essential. Unfortunately on you’ve a macho go for it attitude is championed. Get some some guidance for.
