The Angled vs Roundness fight that most helmets have is ultimately the stylistic argument of if a helmet is supposed to be armor or a representation of the wearer's character. Angled helmets are inhuman and machine and complete the armored look while rounded ones force the viewer to view the armor as a character. this is why master chief's armor worked so well, it's close to a human face in a abstract way. 343 would do well to learn to make their helmets look like a face even though it's armor. I only started playing infinite during entrenched because the entrenched armor "looked" better than the samurai armor to me, and i LIKED the Hayabusa helmet. turns out because the kerberos and rocketeer helmets look like human faces they work. The eaglestrike accidentally looks like a human face but no where near the kerberos and rocketeer, and the Leadbelcher doesn't at all and looks garbage. the new Brodie and M199x helmets are better than the eaglestrike but don't touch the kerberos or rocketeer. compared to their normal helmets though Entrenched beats almost all of them because they have Character due to their rounded designs while still looking like armor because they're based on REAL helmets. Wernissage what you did in the video was redesign the helmets to have Character.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Venator redesign, but then you added the attachment and it made me appreciate the base version more. A good attachment can make a helmet feel completely different. Such is the case for some in Halo Infinite. Edit: God damn, same for the Tracker helmet (one of my personal favourites from 5). 343 should seriously consider hiring or collaborating with you. You’re a fantastic part of this community and you have a brilliant and inspiring way of designing things.
I think a hidden fifth rule, it's VERY important that these helmets flow with the shape of someone's skull, because comfort falls in line with the form factor of most preferred helmets, which is what I think you followed greatly without even realizing it, but Anatomy is a HUGE part of understanding how to make halo armor.
Agreed. One of the biggest issues some of the H4 and 5 helmets have is that they don't look like they fit the human head very well. Too many designs that aren't wide enough and extremely tall
While every other helmet is very good, he kinda dropped the ball this one, deviated to much from what made venator, venator. He should have kept the sharpness a bit more.
@@kapthas59 I fully understand that. I did deviate quite a bit with that one. Best explanation I have, is I always insert some of my own flavor into these redesigns, and sometimes it's a bit much. So I get it!
@@theravenlordmasterofthevib8991 I think a whole core based around a fracture where humanity joined the Covenant would be nice (and Helioskrill would be one of the armors, I assume)
@@mosterchife6045 More like a fracture core for "Elite designed Spartan armor," since that's what Helioskrill is, a collab between the UNSC and Swords of Sanghelios from what I remember.
The miracle worker is back at it again! Always thought that Protector looked like someone dropped the Recruit helmet and tried to glue it all back together. But you managed to make it look excellent! Excellent video as always!
I like your redesign for venator however I think the visor or attachment need to be tweaked because I don’t think they fully fit together because the Visor is more rounded while the attachment is still triangle shaped. The top corners of the visor that kinda poke out past the attachment is the area I think needs fixing but other than that great design
Love the Idea of attachments to make them look more like the original version. Tracker was my favorite in H4 and you make it look stunning in Infinite's style.
One Reclaimer Saga helmet I'd love to see tackled for a redesign is Wetwork. The vertical slit visor is so distinct and the sharp "cat ears" are just so out there that I'd be very interested to see what that looks like toned back and more practical looking.
Since Microsoft owns Bethesda you should do crossover designs. Doom guy armor core, fallout helmets in the eagle strike core, etc. It would be pretty cool
A (to me at least) interesting suggestion for the protector redesign would be to make the "grill" part in the front take up the entire mouth and chin area, this would really focus your attention on the middle of the helmet and I think it would have gone very well with the UA attachment. I think it would also make the helmet REALLY distinct and give it a lot of character.
14:54 "Some real Kopaka vibes from this one" It always surprises me when a bionicle reference comes out of the blue lol Wonder if he'd be willing to do a "Redesigning Bionicle" lol
I was increasingly impressed with every helmet you redesigned here; they're all so well done and fit within Infinite's style scarily well! It's pretty impossible to choose a favourite... ... is what I would be saying if you hadn't blown my mind out of this universe with your Venator redesign! It's perfect. I am obsessed with your redesign and I NEED it in Infinite now. It didn't cross my mind to give the helmet a full visor and make it's classic incarnation an optional attachment - an excellent idea that conforms with Infinite's handling of the weirder helmets they've brought back so far. You didn't just make Venator fit into Infinite's art direction, you may have just improved the design outright. Fantastic work, Wernissage. While I am gushing about Venator, may I add: it's been my favourite helmet since it's introduction, but I never knew it was even in Halo 5 because of the REQ System. I had no idea that they actually gave it a visor, and knowing that they improved it like that in Halo 5 makes me even sadder than I never got to use it. Here's hoping it comes to Infinite, and here's hoping it looks even half as amazing as your redesign!
Thank you so much! The Venator redesign was defnitely a risk, but it’s probably my favorite too. It’s very different, but that’s kinda what I like about it. Thanks again for the kind words, really appreciate it!🔥
In regards to the Recruit helmet. One of the reasons I love its designs so much (as well as your redo of it) is it reminds of a helmet I always wanted to have access to, but never got: the Halo 3 Marine Pilot helmets. They have a Halo 2 styled ODST look but with the raised nose piece. And I adore that we finally got a close design to it.
All of these are absolutely incredible, and your newfound love of attachments was very enjoyable to watch... But man, your editing is absolutely amazing. Moving the camera around the 3D Halo 5 model makes it incredibly easy to take in the original design, while making the lead-up to your changes all the more exciting. Your editing was always good, but this new addition takes it up a notch.
So something I noticed with your designs is that in terms of Visors, you seem to go in the same direction each time (when a visor isn’t visible, put one in front). It works very well, but for Fenrir I believe you could’ve made an EVA/Zvezda style visor work, especially since it’s hard to tell where the attachment ends and the helmet begins, so you can basically do whatever you want there. Also for a “forgettable” helmet, I actually used the Cypher Helmet quite a bit in Halo 5, as it was one of the first helmets I unlocked. It’s nice seeing it again, especially with your new coat of paint.
A request/suggestion would to have a series that regularly you do a design video on ONE set or piece, complete with shading/wear and scratches to more fit with the in game imagery. I loved the final shot of the helmets 'in game' and want more!
Cypher - Very Nas. Venator - I love the idea of making the helmets look like they can be disassembled. It's very practical and mechanical. Looks way better with the attachment. Very Nas. Tracker - That's cool. Very Nas. Recruit - This is one of the best adaptations you've done. I mean pretty much all you did was make it a bit more short and stalky, but it really makes a difference. Very Very Nas. Fenrir - Very clear and defined shapes. Very Nas. Protector - Very Geometric. Very Nas.
The circle vents on the cypher helmet look perfect for a cburn pipe attachment I love that Tracker is absolutely stunning I'd rock the hell out of that in infinite
They all look amazing! I think the areas I do struggle to vibe with are the visors on the Tracker and Venator redesigns; I think most people can agree that the visors are the most iconic aspect of these two helmets, and I think relegating that “uniqueness” onto an attachment is to the detriment of both designs. While both helmets look good, neither read intrinsically as their 343 counterparts without the attachment which I think is important. For Venator I think the borders of the visor need to be sharper, possibly with more prominent lines on the visor itself to give it more internal shape. As for Tracker, I think it would look cleaner if the visor was smaller, perhaps only up to where the visor lines are on the redesign. With the attachments I think they both look really good as spiritual successors to these helmets. However I think that they fail to be recognisable without them. Protector is a much stronger redesign personally, precisely because it keeps that visor profile the original has.
Man, another set of all bangers! Great work! Especially with Recruit and Venator, but all of them really truly fantastic redesigns that strike that perfect balance between keeping the soul of the original and fitting in with the new, all while either staying as distinct as before or becoming more distinct.
Absolutely love your redesigns, the only thing id suggest is a spearhead attachment for the venator, to go over the forehead and give it the sharp look of the original without it being a mess of shapes
I love how the idea of helmet visor attachments let’s these crazy looking designs fit more in Infinite’s style. And it’s cool seeing how 343 are doing this themself.
Idk of its just me but this is some of my absolute favourite content atm I got into halo from looking at the Armour in halo 3 when I was a kid and I just thought it was the coolest thing ever and when reach came out all I cared about was the Armour so redesigns and designing helmets and Armour is like my favourite thing to see and you make them so iconic and fun I love it, much love ma dood
My favorite 343i helmet is the Interceptor helmet, I’d love to see you redesign it because what makes me fall in love with the helmet is that distinct X shaped visor!
I’ve always thought that the recruit helmet kinda looks a bit like the odst helmet in some ways, tho drastically different. Also, I get the impression that the standard helmet from halo infinite is an updated version of the recruit helmet (tho I later see in the video that you mentioned that). I love the redesign tho!
What I really love about what you do is that you retain almost the entire silhouette and details while simplifying things by a good margin. I like how you treat visors as well. If there was only one thing I would comment on, it's texturing. It gets a little too flat although I understand that's to keep the design and structure clear.
My reactions to each redesign... Cypher: Oh, that is sexy. Venator: At first I was like meh, but once I saw the visor attachment i was all for it. Tracker: I like it, a little reminiscent of ODST. Recruit: Oooohhh Fenrir: I would wear it. Protector: Made me think of the Crysis nanosuit. Overall, I loved every redesign you made, I love your work.
Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the 343i helmets from H4 and H5G, 'Tracker' was my go to (and my favorite) helmet in H4, even in MCC before they introduced the 'Keystone' helmet. I loved your redesign, I hope some day we get a new version in Infinite, similar to what you came up with. Keep up the great work!
Your redesigns are getting better and better! Honestly I wasn't super sold on Venator until I saw it placed onto the Infinite armor and then I realized how cool it looked! Also, I really really want Recruit to return, you made it look so damn good! 🔥🔥
I honestly dig all the designs but the venator attachment should in my personal opinion cover over the entire Helmet from the points other wise it looks weird.
Bro that new recruit helmet is so good. I love your changes man. I must however say that another rule you should follow is: allow the helmet to fit the same head. Every helmet has the same silhouette but with a different shell which keeps the look roughly the same. 343 changed the general silhouette of the helmets for example with senator and the first helmet you redesigned in this video. Some of the helmets feel misshapen and it's because they don't fit the head shape style that bungie kept simple and roughly consistent. You might say that EVA was too big for the silhouette which is somewhat ok. It does fit the silhouette but adds to the upper region. I hope this makes sense and helps a bit :)
I’m glad you implemented an add on for Venators familiar look we know, and pays good tribute to its dead Space-like design. It would look even greater in game using one of the bright emissive visors for that extra visual flair. Most of the helmet attachments in Infinite itself are quite unappealing in my opinion, but the one you made for Venator complements the design very well.
recruit really fits the halo infinite aesthetic and i love how the black accents are so more subtle now. cypher & protector definitely are the ones that stood out the best tho
Wernissage, these are absolutely your best by far. They are AMAZINGLY faithful and follow the design doctrine you have set. They're recognizable, but so much better. Great job pal!
Another great video! I don't remember if you redesigned the locus helmet but that be awesome. Have you considered redesigning the halo 4/5 elites or even something like a lobby design?
While I don't care for the first two remastered I really like the last 4. Though I would've kept the side indents on the recruit. Personally I got a very Greek aesthetic from Cypher and I would've gone the route of making a Hoplite stylized helmet making the top less bulked out and a curvy yet sharp connected helmet. Venator was an interesting redesign and personally better than the original but I understand why people that liked the og wouldn't like that
Redesign my favourite helmet from halo 5, Achilles. I think a video redesigning fan favourite helmets from 5 would be great. My fav helmet in this vid was definitely protector. I didn’t like the helmet much in 5 but opening up the visor more in your redesign makes it stand out a lot more to me now as a nicer looking helmet. Personally I’d also have preferred Venators attachment you made to have covered the top part of the visor fully instead of having it open I think it’d have made it look a bit more aggressive. Overall great video
Ngl I'd absolutely rock that Tracker redesign without the attachment, fantastic work all around! 343 should definitely take some cues from you if they're not already
I think something interesting about the original tracker helmet is that the back of it almost has that samurai kinda look/feel, which I don’t think comes off in the redesign. Still looks good tho
Video suggestions: Reskin Covenant weapons to look like UNSC tech, and vice versa ...or... Design a few weapons with UNSC and Covenant design styles blended together.
As always, all these redesigns are beautiful. The Venator is definitely a controversial redesign tho. Still did a great job integrating it into the MK VII style tho. The only thing I would've kept somewhat the same, is the more straight shape directly above the visor, cause the more round shape makes it look a little weird.
I would use every one of these redesigns. The only base helmet I actually liked is Recruit. My favorite is either Recruit or Venator. Recruit because I already liked it and you just improved it, and Venator because the original was hideous and the redesign is surprisingly good. I would love to see Star Wars helmets redesigned to fit in Halo. To fit Halo's overall aesthetic.
I feel like the Venator's Attachment should have a sharp angled piece that covers over the exposed top part of the visor. Like the intel upgrade package for the Commando helmet.
I love all the redesigns with the up armoured variants, especially protector. It feels like a helmet called protector would be used my some sort of security detail which would be fighting in close quarters and might need the additional face armour
Your version of recruit looks like a grown up version of cavallino to me. Something about it looks more mature or powerful, and I really like that. If they were to ever make a GEN 2 themed battle pass/armor core, I think it'd be neat if they reached out to you for designs
Actually, have you ever thought of what a gen 2 armor core designed for Halo Infinite might look like? (Missing space diaper and all). One of the issues with GEN 2 was it's lack of a universal core, so it'd be interesting to consider how to make one universal core for the armor and instead add attachments that better fit the operations/role of the spartan
The mouth on the Recruit helm, IMO, should've kept the nose UNDER the black nose. The separated 3 part top was one iconic part of the design, leaving a perfect spot for a stripe down the middle Mark VI style, but so was the raised mouthpiece. Cavallino lacks both the top, as well as a proper black nose on its mouth piece, which would further differentiate Recruit and Cavallino.
I was on the fence with the Venator redesign, I thought it got rid of the uniqueness of the helmet and made it into just a generic Spartan helmet although a very solid one, but then I saw the attachment which really made me think about the modularity of these helmets in Infinite and how almost all of these designs can serve as a stock design to be built upon. Tracker on the other hand blew me away, it was so perfect I’m upset that I can’t wear it, even without the visor attachment.
the Fenrir redesign looks less aggressive then the original, the small little dot camera of the original made it seem more emotionless and remote whereas the giant lense on the new one makes me think of a wide eyed baby, I think keeping it the same size and just replacing the blue lens with a small white dot would do alot too make it seem scarier.
