We travel 15 hours through out the night to be in San Antonio Texas with our good friend Scott with Red, white and blue guide service to chase after freshwater red fish or red drum. These fish commonly found in the ocean Texas stocked in a few freshwater lakes to see how they do as early as the 1960's. They also experimented with other ocean fish such as tarpon, sea bass and nile perch.

The wind started picking up making Scotts 25' Carolina skiff hard to maneuver so we had to resort to anchor fishing. We targeted wind blown coves that we could also get out of the wind. Bottom fished with meat hunter rods carolina rig style with team catfish 5/0 double action circle hooks and 2 ounce egg sinkers. Bait of choice was fishbites and man do they love them.
First spot the action started before we even got all the rods in the water. We had a blast catching red drum aka red fish all day. We did go out and try down riggers for a bit when wind settled a bit but the bite was to hot anchor fishing we resorted to just jumping spots sitting on anchor.
We headed in and Scott from red white and blue guide service cleaned the few fish we selectively harvested for the day. At Victor Braunig lake the limit is they must be 20" and three per person. We of course do not need that many fish but did keep 4 as its not often we have the opportunity for such a delicious fish.
After that Scott took us to one of his BBQ spots for dinner and man was it so good. Rudy's bbq had it going on with the brisket, smoked sausage and turkey. Topped it off with smoked mac and cheese and it hit the spot.
