Hey thanks for posting this video for those of us unfortunate enough to have a Bendix gearbox this video was just what we needed. I just replaced mine about a couple months ago but it wasn't a redhead unit the redheads are very expensive but I think they're worth every penny they have a reputation of quality I found mine online it wasn't eBay but it was something some kind of a suspension company had it and not even one day went by and it's already leaking in the back now I can't remember what kind of warranty it has on it . I think I should look into that though and find out find my old receipt and see what kind of warranty they had on it as far as the play is concerned it had just as much play as my stock gearbox had in my stock gearbox is 50 years old although my stock Bendix gearbox never leaked. The adjustment procedure on this gearbox is a mystery to a lot of people as well that's why I say if you need a new one I would go with redhead like you did, someone posted up the adjustment procedures on the fortification forums and I finally found it and I made photocopies of it it can be found in the 1968 Ford shop manual on how to adjust it there's three adjustments on that thing you can't just loosen the top lock nut and tighten the Allen's crew like a Ford gearbox if you do that you'll screw it all up.

Thanks for watching! I found a few instructions how to adjust but never wanted to mess with it. The RedHead was always a dream and my amazing girlfriend hooked me up! Finally some peace of mind!!

@@Sconzanator do you remember what pitman arm puller you used the part number I had issues when I tried to pull my pitman arm of my original Bendix box and I put it in the harbor freight press and I didn't realize that that pitman arm is tapered and when it broke loose it hit me in the leg 😲

I learned how to change the rag steering damper joints in the Chevy and Ford and dodge trucks around the farm growing up... and it is fairly easy to use I believe between the 5/8 spark plug socket,a 11/16 or the 13/16 spark plug socket and the id suggest a dead blow soft face hammer of some sort so it doesn't rebound back and causes harm to you or damage anything else you have to buy and replace on the truck... And that's a pretty sweet f250 bumpside camper special trim truck you have there Sir..

Hey, i got a f250 1967 modell camper special. You think this will fit? Did you have to shorten the steering column by 2" with this gearbox? Thanks.
@Sconzanator
@Sconzanator 2 года назад
A Bendix box will probably fit. It may depend on what steering setup you currently have to see how the column length will need to be.. If you have a manual steering, or a Saginaw box, the steering shaft will have to be Shortened/ lengthened accordingly. I would steer away from the Bendix Gearbox if you are installing new power steering from a manual set up. The Ford Saginaw boxes are a lot more accessible and probably a better route. Even the Crown vic swap would make more sense at that point in my opinion.

@@Sconzanator Thanks for the reply! It would be from a manual setup. So with the saginaw pump i wouldnt have to shorten the column or is that unavoidable when i have a manual setup? Trying to get around the whole weilding part..
@Sconzanator

@@olevictorcorral6445 Don’t quote me but I think that is correct. I believe the manual shaft and the Saginaw Steering shaft are the same. The Bendix steering column is a little shorter.

In the middle of upgrading my steering system. 68 F250 ranger camper special. Just sent my bendix box to red head! Have a new column that is DD instead of splines at the end. Switching from rag joint to Universal joint that’s also an adapter from DD to splines (would love your opinion on that tbh). Because the shaft is so short at the end of the column, do u know how to go about that? With the new column being DD, the shaft can’t go inside? Not sure if I’m doing it right 😂😂
@Sconzanator
@Sconzanator Год назад
I honestly couldn’t find anything to adapt the splines To a direct drive U joint set up or figure out how I would assemble it like the problems you are having. I probably didn’t look hard enough and I’m sure there is a way but that’s the reason why I stuck with the original rag joint and everything original. Im sure Fat Fender Garage or some custom shops like that have a kit… Congrats on your RedHead!

I have no idea. Sorry i can’t be more help. I’m sure there is a Falcon Forum out there that can give you the answer. I really only know the Bendix box fitment specs for the old ford trucks..

How did you align the pitman arm?
@Sconzanator
@Sconzanator Год назад
Sorry I didn’t post that step. The gearbox arrives perfectly centered. I parked the truck with the wheels completely straight and never moved it. I bolted Back in the same orientation I took it off. I believe it is keyed to fit four different ways. The steering wheel ended up A little bit crooked but that was an easy fix from just removing it and reattaching it.
@Sconzanator
@Sconzanator Год назад
I have heard of other guys taking the gearbox from lock to lock both ways and splitting the difference to find the center. Then attach the Pitman arm after that..
@Sconzanator
@Sconzanator Год назад
For instance, You turn the gearbox all the way to one side, then it takes (six full turns) to go to the other locks position. Then you just count three turns back to find center.. Not correct numbers but you get the idea…

Is this an aftermarket power steering install? Will it fit in 66 f100
@Sconzanator

This bendix box was what came stock in my truck. They came with Ford (saginaw) boxes and some came with the Bendix. The Saginaw box is an easier swap considering the steering shaft for a manual steering truck is the same length as the Saginaw box. The bendix box uses a shorter shaft and different spline count if i remember right…
