To answer your question, yes. It is a simple principle that applies in many areas of life; you don't sacrifice or jeopardize your future for minimal short-term gains. Using the portal to shore-up positions or add a missing piece or two with the goal of helping the team now and in the future is great, but if you are taking PT away from capable FR/SO you are not only stunting development but hurting recruiting as well. If we had 8 or 9 wins in 22 and 23 but were looking at a team of experienced players sitting at 5-0 right now, as would have been highly likely, it would not only be good today, but good for tomorrow as well. I wonder how many recruits we would NOT have lost from 22 until today if we were a place where you can play early and be part of a winning team?

Running college and HS QBs really don't get hurt that often, and most of the time when they do it is when they are standing in the pocket and get nailed or brought down trying to scramble away from a blitz.

Brock threw a 40+ yard dime to Kentron against UGA. That shows promise to me. Also Malachi Starks was in the game the 2nd half for UGA so it was a mixture of 1st and 2nd string defense against us in OB.

The thing that drives me nuts about their defense is that they just sit back and accept a slow death.....with all the rule changes, clock management and getting possessions is more important than ever. I'd rather they give up a TD on 5 plays where the drive only takes 2 minutes vs these 7-8 minute ones where they give up points anyway. I prefer the DCs that use pressure and aggressive calls to tell the other team's offense "you might beat us, but it will take guts and execution on your part to do it" vs "go ahead, take 3-6 yds on every single play, and we'll just sit back and hope you make a mistake or choke up in the red zone".

College football as we know and love it has been slipping away for years, and if they don't make some changes, NIL and the portal will finish it off. For NIL, there is an easy solution; cap the amount, make it have to come from the university or corporate sponsors, and raise the cap for players that stay at the same school each year. I think that for 99% of HS players in the country they'd be happy with a scholarship and above-minimum wage paycheck. If they make the same amount no matter where they go, we'll get back to some team-building and loyalty sanity again.
