That's a REAL FREESTYLE! NOT that bullshit jay-z started where he basically use punch n 2 make a 16 verse... REAL FREESTYLE is made-up RIGHT ON DA SPOT
redman was high off herb & acid during this whole album. . .this is one of his best albums (my favorite album) & one of his most underrated albums. .people now are just starting to turn back & re-listen to it because of the dark, cosmic, funky sounds he incorporated in almost every track. .the drugs released a warped & insane creativity from his astroplane. . .this album is unmatched by any other
You are dead on. I bought this album back in '95 on tape cause I thought the tape looked cool. And then after seeing the CD having a wider picture and an extra track I bought that one like three years later. This was my favorite Redman album ever. And one of my personal top favorite rap albums of all time. I prefer this one over Muddy Waters. And to me Muddy Waters was his last dope album. 1994 was when Redman was his illest. You couldn't touch him back then. Once he got off the acid and got more normal he's started losing that funkadelic darkside vibe to him and his lyrics were more easier to understand. And he even shaved off the Afro that he was growing big too. That rugid look he had was off da hook. He looked scary as shit back then.
Correction.... High on weed YES.... Acid NO..... But all his albums always been on point, even from his very first album "The What". And I'm not saying this just because I'm from the Bricks, but the nigga has always kept it real from day one..... Never sold out for the industry....
He admits to this in an interview. Rasta Fari please do your research. do not misinterpret this statement as me being a dick through RU-vid comments. I'm simply coming from a place of not publically speaking//making broad statements unless I know the facts.
I’ve been listening to hip hop for 30+ years and ‘95-‘01 Redman is the best rapper ever. Dead or alive. Bars, delivery, authenticity, charisma, dope beat selection, unpredictable, FUNNY and just a splash of “I’m not even trying”. He had it all.
He was in VA on this video like 1995 one thing about it people always pay respects to Virginia overwhelming soooooo much talent come from my state I love you VA 4Life 💯💯💯💯…..
It's good to hear other fans say exactly what I think. In my opinion, Dare Iz A Darkside was Redman's best work. It was the whole package: His look with having the full nappy afro, the album cover, and most importantly, the hard, dark funk tracks, while also having some songs on the album that had more of a positive groove to it, but still carried the funk sound on it. To me, Dare iz a Darkside's rap/funk fusion makes it a cd that really falls in it's own category.
When I heard him talk about Dare iz a Darkside I remember how Redman said this was a bad era for him and he was doing tons of drugs. Kinda puts this interview in a different vibe.
This is amazing. I think he eventually did reach platinum status, but even without it, he's talked about more than some in the past that did hit platinum. His longevity and significance, his work ethic, his in your face personality and energy all put him at the forefront. One of the greatest to ever do it, and he's still doing it.
While Redman of course deserved the recognition eventually, I’m glad he stayed gold for a while. It kept him hungry! We got 3 iconic underground LPs before he went platinum
Redman is one of the realest MC ever touch the mic this nigga say he never had no platuium record but he didn't give a fuck as long as he doing it for the hardcore hip hop come on man that gold people this why the 1990's was a golden era of hip hop period lol
OOOHH 90's !!! ))) REDMAN WAS PINK OF PERFECTION, JACK OF ALL TRADES !!!! :) 90's will be leavin' in my heart 4ever ! ONLY 90's HIP HOP UNDERGROUND !!!!!!!!!!
''watch ya friends cuz they be da 1st ones stabbing you in da BACK'' Redman was right, after witnessing what EPMD went through. real friends is hard to find and even harder to keep. and paitence is the key.
Love this real old school Hip-Hop, This had energy, Funny enuff I was listening to my cassette tape today on my ghetto blaster n I was listening to EPMD, Def Squad, Tim Dawg, Tribe, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim the tracks from the Juice film soundtrack wen that came out. "It's crazy when you ask people the definition of Hip-Hop they say naked women, guns, gold chains, sports car and money. money, money. Do they bother to look back at least 15 years to see what it was like. Nope not all why because it's like the 90's never existed for some reason. Man when I heard Muddy Waters that album moved me the same with Beats Rhymes and Life ( A Tribe Called Quest) That was the year I got into Hip-Hop. I got into all style of Hip-Hop."
circumstances around you, He can change you from the inside so you can be the one to slowly cause some change around you. Just like the guys you listen to, KRS One came from Sedgwick in a part of New York where crime was around, gangs were around. But he's been in the game so long, and he's about having peace, love unity, in hip hop, I hope to see you have that same future, and to not end up in jail or dead man. Peace
