This is so good, I was honestly expecting some cringy music video but this is so well edited and I love how it incorporates different sounds from the movie.
I'm glad Pogo didn't add in the "here's Johnny!" part to the song. I feel like that's one of the only things a lot of people remember about this movie, and it's nice that he showed love to scenes other than that one. Truly, this is a masterpiece. Best of his so far imo.
This is so different from Pogo's usual style, and it's really forced me to compare. Like, honestly, this to me articulates anger. Like, as if Pogo made this because he was mad and had to get it out somehow. The use of The Shining in particular, the heavier focus on percussion, the solo, echoed piano tones creating a sense of isolation, the guitar creating a sound of nervousness, the use of Jack screaming "Danny," to create fear, the background synth samples creating an ambient tension, and finally the axe swings making up the main backbeat. it all just comes together and really makes me thing this song was made out of a dark place and feelings of anger. But through all of it, the upshift in the "Play with us, Danny" and "All the dried goods and the-" brings out some slight resemblance of his normal, brighter style, cementing that is still his, even if it came from a mindset different than his other songs. Even if I'm wrong, the fact that all of that could be articulated into emotions so vividly and clearly, shows that Pogo is a true artistic genius.
Maybe it’s so different because he ripped off another artist. Listen to “Milk” by Moderat and tell me he didn’t just take that song, speed it up and sell it as his own work.
@@leonschlemminger While it is true that Pogo used a theme sample from Milk as one of his sources, his work is way richer, has more variety, several other themes and topics and therefore stands on its own. To simply call it a blatant rip-off means to codemn all sample based meshup music.
I often feel like Pogo's music is immediately identifiable. So many of his tracks have a similar musical feel ---- but this one is REALLY different. Much more percussive with shades of Aphex Twin. I dig.
I was looking for any comment about Aphex Twin here. Even the visuals become very similar to some of his weird videos. Musically however it is even more similar.
True Linsel, I think he uses a lot of ambient layering (which i looooove) and also how he uses the voices, but it could also be his music programs. I was about to say that the song reminds me of Bucephalus Bouncing Ball by Aphex
I was thinking windowlicker, or come to daddy but without the distortion. To really be Aphex twin, all that percussion needs some saturation and clipping and the voices need highpassed and distorted with fuzz. then it'd be some proper aphex twin.
Been a fan of Pogo for years but this has to be a personal favorite of mine. The choice of using Jack shaking the resisotors in his hand as part of the song is so unexpected but perfect...
I replay this over and over. Not just for the beat drop, but for the piano. That quiet moment when he tells Danny he wants to live with them "forever and forever". So beautiful and something I will always go to for inspiration at work. :)
Well, he's had years of practice and enough passion to keep at it and improve. He's put in the time for it, on top of being a highly creative person, I would think.
This actually feels like it's in the same spirit as the movie itself. I'm not even kidding - I feel the same emotions here as I feel whenever I watch the movie. Confused. Unnerved. Unsettled. Worried. Slightly disturbed. It feels almost as if I'm watching a nightmare. And completely unable to put my finger on whatever is the source of that fear.
@@TimWrightt I'm more than aware of that. But even when he creates the percussive, driving beat, autotunes some of the lines, and adds actual chords and music from outside the film, it still feels just like the movie.
@oyryxd I'd also argue it's his best work. It's not like any of his other songs at all, refrains from using the most famous lines of the movie, and manages to capture the same creepy but mystical vibe of the movie. *If a man draws 100 perfect triangles and only 1 perfect cube, that cube will hold more value than all those triangle combined....* Or something, paraphrasing very badly.
So the first time I heard this, I was listening to Pogo, and this crept into my auto-play while I was driving-- already having a, not great day. Let me tell you, I was Shook. It got right down to my bones and my blood ran coooold man. I dedicated to having a better day after that, because I'd never been so severely creeped out bahahaha. It's genius. The vibe captured here is immaculate.
You remixed my FAVORITE HORROR MOVIE of all time!!! I’ve been a fan of you for YEARS, so happy to see you grow. I love you. I’ve never been so in love with your music especially since you used one of my fan made videos at one of your concerts. Such a blessing.
Pogo, you really outdid yourself this time. The subtle use of the voice samples after 2:47 with the Twins talking works so well with the melody. The builds and drops really add meaningful variations to the song that keep me interested and listening. I can see that you really wanted to challenge your skill as a Creator and I truly hope you've grown from this and continue to innovate the way music can be perceived by listeners. (p.s. we miss you Pogo, please come back soon.)
2:58 is where it really begins though.... "Play with us Danny..."x4 "DANNAYYYYYYYYYY" "Play with us Danny..." All the dry goods and the! Play with us Danny... All the dry goods and the! ....so fucking good.
How Pogo managed to make a song that sounds like the shining makes me feel is beyond me. He is a truly talented individual, thank you so much for your contributions to music.
The movie uses a lot of long droning strings and punchy horns sections that really defines the sound of the film, which evokes feelings of dread lurking under the surface. Pogo clearly knows the film and has very accurately recaptured those same sonic colors in this track.
I don't know how to express how much I enjoy this song. It's structured so well, makes great use of the movies' sound to immediately set the tone, and carries this eerie tone throughout while sounding so relaxing and satisfying. That axe drop into the pantry scene has to be one of my favourite segments of all time.
Wow, this actually captured the unsettling terror of the movie pretty damn well while keeping it fun to listen to. Wasn't expecting something like this. Nice work!

The most impressive thing is that he doesn't use the iconic "Here's Johnny!" scene. Usually you would expect that out of a remix, combine recognizable scenes into a cobbled piece of art. With Pogo, however, he uses an assortment of scenes that I do not recall at all. But now I will. Bravo :3
I would listen to a song where that's the constant refrain or used in some kind of ambient remix, it is my favorite part of this song and I wish it was longer
My mind is blown. What did I watch? This is so fucking amazing. I'm a big fan now. Thank you dude - this is a masterpiece. Loved the captures of Real movie samples. The outro is amazing with that radio reverb wow!!
Just noticed the two differing axe falls as the snare hits. The difference between really good and perfect. I really love finding the inner workings of your stuff. When I go back, I'll find stuff in like, Whisperlude I've never heard before ! I really think Stanley Kubrick would appreciate what you did here Nick. You really caught the relentless crescendo that is for me; the essence this movie. Just. Wow.
I hate Stephen King. I don't even like Kubrik that much. But this is a shining masterpiece of horror. (Only afterwards realized the pun.) Loved it since the first time I saw it, and I'm not a fan of horror movies either. And this song is the same. Pogo could probably make any movie into a hit song, but he makes it into a dark trance masterpiece that fits the movie. Newly a fan, almost begrudgingly, but still respect this tune a lot.
everjustvalor I thought I recognized Pogo... Since you said you've been a fan for years, I'm trying to remember the first vid/song that caught my attention
This song needs to be longer. It's just too good to be only 4 minutes...which is usually a decent length for a song but when you have an amazing mood, with two different parts to the song, it's just not enough.
The "this is KDK-12 calling KDK-1" part is so calming in this super intense song. The music working around it works perfectly. Around halfway through the song you make footsteps musical. It's insane how you can make anything into a good song.
Sometimes I wonder what they would have thought about our music now back in the 80s... I'm pretty confident this would have been very popular when the movie came out!
I don’t know how a track can be so dark yet uplifting, simple yet intricate, old vibe yet new elements, it’s got ‘80s chords and trance progressions in it, absolutely mind f***ing blown…this isn’t talent, this is a supernatural gift…he hears things that 99% of the population could never reconstruct… absolutely freaking amazing! God Speed POGO🙏🏻🙌🏻✌🏻🤯
It's been a while but worth the wait yet again. This is outrageously good- 2:45 when that beat kicks in and when the twins vocal enters, is yet another example of that moment of genius that you masterly entwine into your songs so often. Hairs standing on end. Well done Nick!
Movie aside, this is actually an excellent drum and bass track. It really is fantastic on its own and is totally worthy of being in an electronica mix.
I just watched this movie for the first time yesterday and I have to say, it is amazing how you took these scenes and made such an amazing masterpiece. It was fun watching out for the scenes you used. great job man!! love it.
