I try to keep things as simple as possible with my reef tank, but even so I still need to do just a little bit of weekly maintenance to keep things in order!

I've had freshwater tanks for several years and got into saltwater 5 months ago. Yes, the amount of evaporation was a little shocking to me and you can't let it go in saltwater because it affects salinity. I have an 80G Innovative Marine AIO and a 32G Biocube. The Biocube has an enclosed lid. The issue I find with the enclosed lid is that the water temp can quickly jump to 82 degrees because the heat from the lights has nowhere to escape. So I leave the small feeder door open and that helps a lot. I also keep the window in the room cracked open to help keep the temp down. This also helps release C02 from the room that would otherwise get into the tank and drop pH. Another issue with the lid is oxygen exchange. Keeping the door flap open helps but I also put an air stone in the back filter section. This also helps keeping the pH from dropping due to poor oxygen exchange. I tried the manual top off for a while but I'm too lazy! So I run a 5G ATO on the Biocube. This lasts about 4 weeks before I have to fill up the ATO tank. About 10G of water evaporates out of my 80G each week because it has no lid! So I have a 40G ATO tank in my closet! I have found the more things I can automate with saltwater the better chance I have at keeping things stable. These are the little things you don't realize when you get into saltwater! LOL

I don’t comment much, but have you checked your oxygen levels , that tank has low low oxygen. I can’t see any flow . Trouble ,jhnny

You should get two decorative tables for both sides of the tank and install a Cheap auto topoff that you hide in the table. Your corals will do better, cyano will be reduced and no more salinity spikes.

Awesome idea to have those flow restrictors inside of the dosing containers. Would you mind dropping a link to the ones that you're using? Some cheapo ones I purchased on amazon need a ton of water pressure that my doser doesn't achieve.

Chitons. Never heard of them before. I’m glad to learn that they are harmless. Your tank looks great and I am also wondering where did you get those dosing containers. Is that a little anti-siphon fitting at the end of the tubes?

What if you put a spot of glue under the plug, then moved the sand and glued plug down then move sand back so he doesn’t keep getting knocked over? Just a thought.

I was thinking that! But then idk why but I decided not too lol figured not wanting to but anything permanent on the actual tank if I wanted to move it or whatever.. may try it if this doesnt work

Ya plate coral has little feet that come out at night and move.

Here is the link for the Tidal Gardens video. I watched the video again and apparently all plate corals can move themselves like that and it has nothing to do with the worm. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hmwWTi1tqfQ.htmlsi=pQG4PMBs0jDrENzw

Look on the bottom of your plate Coral I think I saw a video from Tidal Gardens that there is one species of plate Coral I believe it was, that has a symbiotic relationship with some type of little worm that will move the coral. Look on the bottom of the plate Coral and see if there is a tiny hole on the bottom of it and if there is you have the type that has the little worm and that’s why your plate coal is moving.

hmm cool info! Is the worm good/bad? like does it need to be removed of it is just one with a worm lol

100% agree with enclosed tanks. I had a 75g with glass lids and it had less evaporation than my buddies 15g long. I'll be DIY'n a custom acrylic lid for my 60b sump to help combat evaporation on my sca150.

According to what Than said on the video, it is good. It is a symbiotic relation between the coral and the worm. It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve seen the video. I will see if I can find it and send you the link.
