When is a World Time, not a World Time?
Hello folks, today I'm looking at my first (and probably last) Reef Tiger watch, the RGA1951.
Having never dealt with or owned a Reef Tiger product, I was curious, having heard mixed reviews. They can add mine to the "thoroughly unimpressed" pile I'm afraid, as this watch has a glaring issue, which I discuss in the video.

Got to say your Irish accent in rant mode is brilliant! I've played with the idea of reviewing a Reef Tiger but they're getting plenty of negativity lately

Ah here now lad, wouldja stop! 🤣 I'd tread carefully with them, they certainly aren't cheap so it's more of a pain if the watch turn out to be a dud. For a little bit more Cronos start to become an option, even if the brand name and logo is not great 🙄

@@TheWatchtowerWatchReviews that's what i was thinking, I was looking at their speedmaster homages, £90 for a quartz. I don't mind the cronos name but the logo is way too celtic for me considering they're Chinese

@Jason The Watch Guy £90 for a quartz is a tough one to pull the trigger on, unless that dial says "Swiss Made". I'm keeping an eye out for a Mondaine to pop up for the right price on eBay...

Great video & rant 👍 There's a Soviet-era Raketa World Time Wheel bezel watch from the 1980's, sometimes they pop up on Ebay. Quite a large dial, but very unique looking though.

A buddy of mine has that watch after spending time in Siberia, but the cities are in Cyrillic I believe, never found one in English! I ended up buying an Eco Drive World Time Chronograph on eBay, brand new and all

It is a homage to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Geographic. Flipping the cities/ turning the city wheel should be tied to the 24h subdial. If it isn't, can you set at least the 24 subdial independently? Hopefully yes, then it has at least a GMT/2nd timezone function and you can use the city fidget spinner as a reminder to which time zone you set it. It has even that little markers for daylight saving time zones.

Hi Kater, I didn't know that, I hadn't seen that JLC. Unfortunately not linked to the sub dial. Couldn't set independently as far as I could see, asked RT and they didn't have any way to get it to work.

Hey man, thanks for the video. I think that the watch looks good, but I agree that the errors are unforgiveable. I have been interested in a couple of Reef Tiger models, especially the beautiful Prophet (Coctail Time Homage). The company seems a bit enigmatic. Eventhough the branding is a bit suspicious, one cannot say that they did not go the whole way with boxes, printed adverts and many different and ambitious models. But then they talk (I dont want to say lie, its such a harsh word) about being "Swiss Tech", but sporting Japanese and Chinese movements. Mineral crystal being advertised as sapphire sometimes. This silly, I will not even call it, gimmicky watch. But there are also many stories about happy owners. But for me, it is probably true that it takes 11 good experiences to balance 1 bad. And lastly thank you for the shout out to Gary in this frustrating time for him. Take care.

Hey TSP, thanks for the view! I agree, they make some really beautiful and interesting watches, and even some fairly original designs, which is rare on Ali! I'm used to the "Swiss technology" stuff, but I still hate it. I would prefer companies put something like "Proudly Made in China" and just own up to it. I'll be very wary of buying another RT, but who knows, maybe they'll have another model at some point I just can't take my eyes off and must have. Until then I think I'll hold fire. Poor Gary's woes seem to just be compounding, no sooner had I directed people to his channel then it was nuked by RU-vid! He doesn't deserve that, I reached out to him to offer my support.

I mean, I don't think people are faking Reef Tiger, I don't think they have enough Brand Cache to really justify it. Same way nobody is faking Pagani Designs, because why would you? Much better to fake a brand more people know about in the general world

It is indeed unfortunate about this particular model. About a year ago I bit the bullet and purchased their flying tourbillon model and I have to say that I have been nothing but happy with it. Initially upon delivery from the slow boat from China, ( I live in the US) the watch needed adjusting, because of who knows how it got thrown around in shipping, but after a trip to my local watchmaker this thing has kept time to within a few seconds every day and it does look very nice.

Ive heard similar issues or people having trouble with reef tiger, it was a good rant though, you could tell just how "meah" you were about the whole experience. I'll definitely be giving them a miss.

Such a shame, if it was a world timer it would have been gorgeous, and a bargain. Alas, no dice. If you like rants, I'll have a Pagani one in a week or two ..

Huh? I looked at the watch and expected it to function as advertised, not to be a novelty fidget spinner disguised as one. It would be like buying a watch that looks like a chronograph, but the pushers are just decorations...

Absolutely. And non functioning as well. May need to give Reeftiger a second chance though, I know other reviewers liked their other models.

The size was only one of.my issues, the fact that it wasn't a world timer was much more annoying. Looks like one, but doesn't have the functionality.

@@TheWatchtowerWatchReviews you didn't understand my comment. Let me break it down for you like you are a RU-vid viewer. You are complaining about a watch that is what it is. At the price point you are paying you are wanting it to be a thousand times better than it is. It is as if you are wanting the watch to be as good as a Rolex because deep down that is the style of watches you would like to own but may not be able to afford. Maybe you do own Rolexes but would rather talk about a cheap and nasty shitter that is as much watch as you are paying for. Now do you understand what I was trying to say before you interrupted my thought process . . . I own three Reef Tigers because I love the look. As long as it looks great on my wrist and tells time correctly I do not care if it has jewels in or not. I am not paying for the extra junk I am paying for a watch. I own the Reef Tiger Seattle Philosopher, the Seattle Chief and the Reef Tiger day date automatic. The automatic is a beautiful dress watche.
