Cool. I wonder if Marr uses a Tele for that. I’ve seen you have a Jazzmaster: did you try it? Keep The Smiths coming... Always a challenge to figure them out!

Probs an early Tele? The s/t version was probs the '54 + the Rickenbacker 12-str, can't place any Les Paul there (which according to JM himself were the main guitars used in that record). He started playing Jags in 2006, with Modest Mouse, another amazing band.

can someone explain (newbie) so you tune without capo to 442 hz (best way? i used a youtube video and the tuning sounds like normal standard ie my guitar is already in tune) then put capo on 2nd fret?

Hi - you should always tune with the capo on as it does affect the tuning. But that is separate from the 442Hz part. That is for how you need to change the calibration on your tuner. The original recording is slighty out of tune - these were the days of tape so they often changed the tape speed... or they just used a bad tuner! Either way - you need to adjust the calibration on your tuner slightly. 2Hz isn't a big difference at all so you might not hear it - some people are more sensitive to pitch than others. If I'd recorded this at standard 440Hz then it wouldn't have sounded right to me. Most tuners allow you to do that very easily. Hope that helps/
