Thank you for this. I am currently deciding between a 4000 FL or 4000 sized back bay for pulling reds from structure. I’m going to go with the back bay from watching this video!
Thinking about getting a saltist back bay for a medium heavy freshwater fishing... Would I be crazy? I just want something thats gonna be REALLY strong... does the stradic FL cast alot further then the back bay? Great video!
The back bay is definitely a stronger reel. I don’t think you would have any reliability issue out of either reel. The casting distance is not that big of a difference. The big thing is the weight difference. The stradic is much lighter. Glad your enjoyed.
@@lookingforthenextbite178 thanks man... I think I'm gonna try to get to my tackle shop to hold a back bay... ive had alot of people suggest the new shimano vanford and while it definitely has some great features it was made to be a light reel not an overly strong one.. And thats what got me comparing the back bay to a stradic FL... Thanks again man!
When you talk about Weight you need to consider what the reel is made of. The Back Bay is made of much stronger and slightly heavier materials, aluminum Body and Sideplate. The Stratic is made with an aluminum body and Plastic Sideplate. The backbay is more of a saltwater reel made for lots of load. The Stratic is a Freshwater reel more than anything but can be used in saltwater if needed. And weight wise the Saltist Backbay 3000 is a 2500 size reel, equivalent to a Shimano 3000 I believe. They are around the same weight really. You have a smaller size Stratic your comparing to the backbay so of course it is ganna be lighter. Both are great.
Actually the box says the stradic is a 2500 because I lost my 3000 box. I compared a 3000 stradic to the 3000 back bay. I agree that both are great reels and I love both of them but the stradic 3000 is noticeably lighter than the back bay 3000. Like I said in the video I use the back bay for heavy salt water such as surf fishing and fishing heavier weights. Thanks for the comment and I hope you enjoyed the video.
Could you get away with using the stradic in the surf (say you throwing lures from the beach but not actually knee or waist deep in the surf) and not have much issues, if you rinse off after ever trip?
I would not use the stradic for heavy surf fishing anytime I have used it there I have not been wading. If there is any risk of submerging or heavy salt spray I would go with the back bay. The back bay is sealed, the stradic is not.
Great review. I have a regular BG 3000 and the size difference between the back bay and the regular BG is substantial. I really don't think it's too heavy for light jig at all. That's pretty much what it's made for. I have mine on a 7' medium st croix avid with 15 pound power pro and it's perfect!
If your fishing more for trout or slot reds using lighter action rods I would recommend the stradic. However if your fishing for big snook and big reds like 28 inch plus I would go with the saltist. Also if there is a risk of dunking your reel or it getting a lot of salt spray the saltist is the way to go because it is sealed.
I ended up ordering a backbay 4000... what sold me was when I looked up they weight of my lews spinner, it was only an oz lighter then the back bay and it has a composite frame And the lews is only a 3000 size reel
If your fishing for them from the beach I would say the saltiest due to it being sealed. The FL is not sealed and will get saltwater in it if it gets splashed or dunked. A 3k won’t hold near as much line as a 5k though.
In my opinion the saltist back bay is more in line with a stradic than the other reels you mentioned. A saltiga and slammer are more traditionally used for surf fishing and offshore applications. The back bay is designed for inshore fishing and I believe a stradic is also a good option for inshore. Just my opinion.
The stradic FL and the back bay are very comparable... the back bay holds 10 yards more braid in the 4000 size then a 4000 stardic FL.. They have the same bearing count Stradic FL 9.9 oz Back bay 10.6 Drag Stradic FL 24 lbs Back bay 15.4 They are so comparable that I'm glad he made this video cause I was having a hard time deciding between them..
@@aroshanrai5213 on the traditional Daiwa reels like the regular saltist they do run big but on the back bay models they are comparable to Shimano size. My 3k back bay is the same size as my 3k stradic.
