Dug my Victa Razorcut out of the garage for the first time in a few years. It took to my couch lawn beautifully! brown patches explained here --- • Victa 2 stroke destroy...
I used to work night shifts at my job in Alaska, so I got a reel mower like this. That way I could mow my lawn anytime, even the middle of the night, and not disturb my neighbors.
Omg reminds me of back in the day. We were young with two babies, couldnt afford a lot. Got me an old push mower from the dump for about $3. Had one of the best looking gardens in the whole neighborhood!
When I was a kid my parents had one, as we got older mom had an electric mower. She mowed twice a week, watered, dug all weeds by hand, looked like a golf green and it was her thing you didn't try to mow it or she was mad. She had a way of doing it and you didn't want to mess it up. Am I the same, kind of. I used to tell my husband, don't be mowing it all weird just straight lines, if I want crop circles I'll map that out on the lawn. 😆🤣👍
Man, this brought back memories 😂 Our dad had the big heavy metal push mower with wooden handles. My two older sisters and I took turns mowing and using a hand trimmer for edging back in the 60's in Roswell, New Mexico 🥵
I can remember my grandmother mowing her yard (3 house lots) with one of these. It was a lot of lawn but she got the job done with that rotary mower! Johanna Maine USA
I always loved the sound of a push mower as a young girl. The one we had though was very heavy but I still enjoyed doing it because you could still hear the birds while mowing. Your yard looks great...lucky on that rain shower though!
A beautiful finish, we had a push mower in the early 70's and as long as you did it regularly it was a joy for us kids, that was our job, if we didn't do the yard we weren't allowed to go and visit our friends. I couldn't do it now :)
Oh, this takes me back! Used one of these most of the eighties, haha. Remember it was a drag when the grass got too long, had to get some speed into it and only cut a few feet, then gather speed again. As a kid, this was not so much fun.. Totaly forgot about that :-)
I was raised using push mower. Our house was on 2 large lots and all of us kids learned how to cut the lawn when we were quite young. Used to take a few hours and we had a canvas grass catcher on the back end of it.
My great grandma in the 60’s had a manual mower. She wouldn’t let us do the lawn with a gas mower. She would do a couple of lines each day. Still amazes me how strong she was.
Your great grandma's practice of only a couple of lines each day sounds good. It's getting beyond me now, but I reckon I could do two or three lines each day, then it would be done in a fortnight. Thank you.
I love watching you you do such an awesome job on your yards and I never know what to expect love your Channel keep up the great job you do love that little tool that would be so awesome to have
What a cadillac of push mowers! I was never strong enough to make one work for me the time or two I actually tried to cut with the one my Dad had back in the 60's! Our grass here in California was Kentucky Blue (if my memory serves) and it was a wide-blade, coarse grass. Not very tender to bare feet.
G'day Shaun that is one of the best ways to mow grass or turf that's why ovals and golf courses use them. My father had a Scot Bonner one with a lever clutch and split roller at the rear it did a fantastic job but was very heavy keep safe John
Thanks for the great videos! It looks easy when you push it. The reel mower I purchased here in the states, you would have needed to be a strong mountain man to push it.
Hello Victa had the Swordsman range of reel mowers 12 16 21 and 24 inch,2 smallest had Mitsubishi 2.5 hp engines and the 21 and 24 inch had the Victa stroke engine on as an option ,these had the engines upright with the carburetor in a horizontal position, I passed my mower test with a Victa Swordsman 24 inch ,Victa Super700 28 inch cut with a 12hp JaLo 2stroke with twin tractor grip wheels was a beast of a machine it wouldn't stop for anything
Love push mowers, haven't seen others say it. But if you have bad hay fever like me, these are the best mowers, they don't send grass dust particles all over the place. I barely sneeze after using one.
Seems like the reel mowers are making a comeback in the States. See lots of videos using them, especially the high end golf course quality models being used on homeowner lawns
I remember back in the mid 1960 at my granddad place in .. He the oldest version all metal and wooden handle to push,it was in good shape and good order... I lived in Brisbane during the 1960-1980 I had 2 boy’s local we 3 had gocart one my mates had of these reel mowers made into gocart I tell you what a noise it made .... did the dogs put on howl
I've got the same mower it's legendary and in my opinion does a better job than a petrol powered mower. No loud sound or petrol fumes and you get a good workout!
I use one of those to mow the dandelions in my back yard. (Don't judge I rent and it looked worse when we moved in) I've started meticulously digging the buggers out. I hope to be done before the first snowfall. 🤣 Hopefully there is enough actual grass in the yard for a lawn "comb-over".
Oh wow, that's neat. I've actually never used one of those. A customer gave me one once but I never tried it. And I've seen gas powered ones. Not exactly a Florida mower I guess.
G'day Mike, Is it mainly St Augustine in Florida? My old house was buffalo (same thing) and this mower was useless on it! I don't imagine too many people would persist with one in those conditions haha
@@BladeMateLawnCare Yes, mostly St. Augustine but we also have Bahia, which a mower like that would work on. I really like unique equipment like that. Our golf course uses reel mowers mounted on their tractor to mow the putting greens, which is Bermuda grass.
Just got one of these on gum tree! Was excited to ask about your service. Then saw your in Thornton! Damn. Let me know if you recommend anyone in Sydney! Have the smallest patch of grass then need help!
Thanks mate! Nah, that thatch thing is a bit of a myth. If a lawn is already thatchy, then mowing without mulching properly (leaving big ugly clumps everywhere) can contribute to it somewhat. In this video, the clippings are so fine that they all but disappear within days, and are actually great for your lawn due to the nitrogen they contain! Also, in Australia the style is to cut super short (not the greatest for lawns, but it is what it it is), whilst also using the catcher. Despite this, most buffalo lawns I see still have thatch, when you'd think it would have the opposite effect!
I am 6’1” and always hated mowing the lawn because lawn mowers (and everything else!) are made for short people. Do you ever have low back pain because of short handles like I did?
That's the plan mate. When I get my shed, I'm gonna make a restoration channel, so I wanna grab an old Victa cylinder mower to fix up. I've recently picked up a Victa Super 24 slasher to do a resto on also
It's the Australian way 😉 Honestly, if Victa made a solid commercial mower with a Victa engine, I'd use one all the time. Unfortunately they just seem to make small decks these days, and strap a Briggs engine to them.
