If you're an old Glen Burnie man like me, you remember Bob Bell commercials. Evidently his advertising guys made it as a joke, but it feels exactly like one of his commercials.

I'm sorry but I'm just gonna say it - I fucking hate this latest version of Reelism. It just doesn't have that same "one more try" factor that the old Reelism did. In older versions of the mod, it felt like I had more of a chance to stand my ground and fight enemies in earlier waves and I could actually use some old-school Doom strategy like thinning out high-priority targets to keep myself safe until the next spin of the reels. When I died, it felt like I died because I wasn't playing well, not because the game had piled too much on my plate. Contrast that to this version where it feels like success pretty much rides entirely on being lucky with the reels and it always seems like there's at least one mode that's there simply to make things arbitrarily more difficult. It feels like I'm being punished for wanting to play the mod. A lot of the mechanics seem great in premise but once you actually have to start playing seriously with them for any extended period of time, the novelty wears off extremely quickly and it becomes frustrating and tiresome. Imo, Kinsie has spent too much time trying to be 'le epic funny man' and not enough time actually focusing on the balance in this latest version.

I recently ended up with a copy of RE6. It absolutely boggles the mind that there was a fantastic gameplay loop that the campaign just flat out ignores. Mercs is good fun though. Punching shit down as Budget Jason Statham is a great time.

@@ClarkKentai Yeah, mechanically it's insanely detailed and nuanced fun. Mercenaries does a great job showcasing what a system it is; unlike the Stories, which--aside from Chris' campaign, derided at the time as Cawwa Duty-fied--seem to be astonishingly designed counter to the systems intent.

Sounds nauseating. I'm not sure how the DOOM engine could handle that. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

@@trulyinfamous Oh you completely play doom 1 and 2 with mods and VR with gzdoomVR. However this mind does not work, it just does not load.

It's just a different, very fiddly, very cautious gameplay loop. (It's got everything I want!) Some don't like that stuff though.
