The City of Monterey’s Museums & Cultural Arts Division conducted a live reenactment of the 1849 California Constitutional Convention.
Between September 1st and October 13th, 1849, forty-eight delegates representing ten districts of California, met in Colton Hall in Monterey, California to debate complicated issues that would ultimately determine California’s statehood. This reenactment took place on October 16, 2022 at Colton Hall, where 48 delegates debated the decisions that made California a free state.
Adapted by Morgan Stock and Directed by Kevin Hanstick. Narrated by Emma Kuhlman. The delegates are played by:
