This video is me and my wife combining scrap gold jewelry with silver by smelting them together. Afterwards we refine the jewelry using nitric acid treatments and eventually dissolve the gold and aqua regia. We then melt the gold down to a bar.

a couple of comments: The respirator you are using will not stop NO, NO2, or NO3 from entering your lungs. The respirator gives one a false sense of security. The face shield is an excellent idea especially when pouring molten metals and acids that may boil over. picking up a crucible by the lip with molten metal in it is asking for third degree burns. They look strong but they are being stressed along a single point then they are lifted by the lip. Better to have a set of tongs that can encircle he bottom 1/3. Then set the crucible on a firebrick plinth and then use a different set of tongs that will encircle the crucible from the side to pour. Pour from a great height so the water doesn't splash on to the crucible. Ice is your friend when corn flaking gold and silver.

Awesome video man. That gold looks beautiful! Also like the fumehood. You got a nice setup there. Thanks for posting!

U shoulda filtered it till it was clear! Then u drop the gold once it has been run thru the SAME filter a few times to load it to catch the smallest stuff when u rinced with water a small amount of silver came out into a layer sitting on top..

OK totally love your Vid's Especially the PGM one, one thing always put a watch glass on top of your Beaker ... those brown Gasses will re form Nitric so not so much waste... even better at some time in the future work on a recycling system so you bubble the extra Gasses into a Bubbler system this will make a weak Nitric solution also But better than wastage. Keep em coming ...Kev all the way from the UK

Awesome vid man. Another RU-vidr said that gold is so durable that what you extracted may have been worn by a Pharaoh.

Nice vid. Definitely see the street tip influence and he is the guy great looking gold... There are some more good ones out there but you should try Pete's gold refining out of Perth, Australia channel..🤔👍

Just did my first small batch of karat scrap (14.3g yield) i get the same issue with the melts also. Think that acetylene is the way to go, or maybe a smaller electric furnace. Nice video tho but you shouldn't hold beakers by the rim, especially the larger ones. If it does break, you could really get cut pretty bad. Got a load of gold filled im going to try and refine next. Ive seen a couple of home made fume hoods in videos, think i might put a little more effort into the one i attempted to build. Mine looks like a hobo's shanty, lol. Get that shiny bortha!

Thanks a lot. Yeah I am definitely going to get an acetylene torch next.

Can you link the sources you refer to? And thank you in advance. Your videos are super helpful in my learning process so far!!

Not sure what sources you’re looking for, but the book “refining precious metals” by HM Hoke is like the Bible of refining gold and other PM’s. Also, check out Sreetips you tube channel. He’s a beast!

Did you spray that filter with tap water? Looks like you created a lot of silver chloride there. I think filtering it a second time would have helped a lot.
@TroubledOnePaydirt
@TroubledOnePaydirt 9 месяцев назад
Tap water also reacts with silver and forms a nasty precipitate

hey tanx for his wonderfull video there is an issue , you mixed sulfuric acid but all sources say mix Sulfamic acid ! are u sure about mixing sulfuric acid?
@TroubledOnePaydirt
@TroubledOnePaydirt 9 месяцев назад
Sulfamic acid is for de-noxxing… or killing off excess nitric acid. Sulfuric acid, is added to aqua Regia to precipitate out any lead that may have followed the gold. It can then be filtered out.

I'm curious as to why you are using two different nitric acid solutions?
@AznRyda001
@AznRyda001 2 года назад
you should of slow cooked the power in the beaker so it would dry instead of burning the filter

The silver won’t try to evaporate like the gold?
@jandlcrafting1332
@jandlcrafting1332 Год назад
Silver will not dissolve in aqua regia. It converts into silver chloride which is a fine white powder.

Looks like you need to glaze the crucible with borax, then the gold will pour out easily

why do you use silver to get it to 8k instead of copper ?👍
@AirForce15A
@AirForce15A 2 года назад
You can definitely use copper, but by using silver I can essentially refine both metals at once.
