Professional restorer Rodney Keyser demonstrates this "How to" tutorial on a unique technique we use on an antique wardrobe to beautifully refinish it without stripping or sanding in under an hour.
NOTE** Howard Products (colored) Citrus Shield Paste Wax has been discontinued -
We suggest using Briwax in place of the Howard wax:
Briwax Original Dark Brown Furniture Wax - amzn.to/34Ji34Q
Howard Products Orange Oil - amzn.to/3bQwhmO
Howard Products Feed n Wax - amzn.to/3aNKako
0000 Steel Wool - amzn.to/2VMpAMY

Glad to see this. I use a Haywood Wakefield chair at my vanity everyday. I am not at all interested in trying to refinish, but because of the maker I don't want to paint it. I just cleaned it up, but I used a wood cleaner then used the feed and wax.

Howards has a product called wax-it-all. Same exact ingredients as in feed n wax only more wax than oil. Good for already sealed wood where as feed n wax is good for bare wood as it soaks in more readily. But no color in wax-it-all. Ty. Great job. Ive been restoring old guitars with feed n wax. Wish it had more carnauba in it for a deeper shine.

Hi Rodney. I’m in Australia and just came across your excellent video about refinishing timber without stripping it. I have a pedestal desk which probably dates back to about the 1920’s. It is basically in good condition but obviously a bit tired. Briwax seems to be unavailable for us here. I would be extremely grateful if you could suggest another dark brown paste wax or similar. Best wishes Kate.

What was your wait time before removing the paste wax with the Orange Oil? I thought the usual step would be to use the Orange Oil first to get surface dust and dirt off before applying any wax. I just did a very dry antique spindle back chair that I hadn’t touched since the mid 1970’s. Used Golden Oak Restor-A-Finish with 0000 steel wool. Let that off gas over night then applied a LOT of Feed-N-Wax and let that soak in over night. When I wiped that off it was almost the color of dark oak, beautiful.

@beebuzz959
@beebuzz959 3 года назад
The good thing about wax, other than how it looks and it's conditioning if the wood and stuff, is it's so much easier to touch up than varnish. You can just wipe down and apply. The other you'd have to sand and apply, maybe a few coats, deal with imperfections, and let it dry a few days. Wax takes about 3 days to dry, but can usually be applied in the house and only to a small area, if need be.

This video is exactly what I've been looking for. I have a question about a piece of furniture that I have please. It's a mid century Asian coffee table. I love the wood grain and the color, it looks like maybe walnut. The only thing that bothers me is the finish. It's a glossy top coat. Would I be able to knock that off with some fine grit sandpaper, go over it with the products you've used here and get that beautiful patina and glow this piece came out with? If so what color paste wax would you recommend? I don't want it too black. I like the warmth that's in the wood now? Thank you so so much if you can respond to my question. Donna

@beebuzz959

I know it's been 3 months, but even if it's just another setting this, I think no matter what he used here, a kitchen table needs to be food safe and also gets a lot more wear. You can put certain toxic products on that harden though, like polyurethane. But there's also hemp oil, yet I don't think it hardens as much, and many waxes (check to make sure they're food safe), that come closer to hardening as much. I like them better still, and you can also really wax and oil without having to sand the while thing down. As for these oils, at least the orange and beeswax sounds safe, but even that could have something else added. I love oils and waxes, but in a table you want to make sure it's safe is all. Sorry I can't say more as to your actual question, but I do think he didn't wait, just did one after another.

I don't know what wax you used ? Cheaper wax, especially Johnson's and Minwax have more petroleum distillates and can have a stronger smell. The wax I used I don't find offensive at all, but we all have different sensitivities. The Orange oil smells like oranges. As always, read the labels on the products you use because they will all vary. Any smell will dissipate. Aroma is a by product of almost any refinishing product.
