We finally get to put the Jag in paint! While this isn't the last video for the Rattle Can Rescued Jag, we are getting close to having it up and running!

Great video! Beautiful Jaguar. I have a body purchased from guitar mill that I am working on. I finished the clearcoat yesterday so now its a couple of weeks wait while it cures out. I got the spray can nitro sent from Oxfords in Canada. It was suppose to be candy apple red metallic all in one. I sprayed it over their white primer and it came out way dark more like a cola. As a first time paint it looks ok. I just didnt think that I had the skill to do a traditional candy paint over silver. After seeing your video I wish I had gone with Olympic white now. It was way harder and more tedious than I had imagined.

Some guitars just want to fight their way into their current uses! I had a telecaster custom I was restoring last year and I ordered some translucent brown (70s for the win). When I sprayed it the finish was barely tinting the wood and ended up more of an aged browning natural. Sometimes the parts that don't go to plan make the instrument all the better and unique. Plus dark metallic colors look the business with a good buffing. And glad you enjoyed the vid Joe! Greatly appreciated 🙏

Very few things are more rewarding than sanding a clear coat for hours and hours up to 7k and a mirror finish.

Amen to that!

but why didn't you remove the electronics before sanding? That bothers me so much haha

Great video bud! I’m currently planning a build for a jazzmaster but I’m wanting a hard tail. It’s crazy because I’ve been wanting a video going over all the bridge options and I believe you answered a lot of my questions. Let me know if you have any recommendations for the tail piece. I’m wanting to put humbuckers in it but don’t know if I should angle the neck pocket or what to use a tune o matic or the mustang bridge with a different tail piece. Thanks for the great vid bud. Hope all is well.

I'd personally swing for the Mustang bridge and build it without the tilt but that's just me. I had reviewed a MIM Jag a few months back and I must admit the tilt took something off it. Regarding the tailpiece, I used a version of this design when I built a 12 string Jazzmaster for a good friend about 2 years back. And for the price, it ain't bad!

@@breilly66 Gotcha, thanks bud. I think that would look a lot better and keep it in the jazzmaster look better than just a standard bridge or tail piece. I’ve looked at a few with just a bridge and there is a lot of real estate behind the bridge. It looks off to me for a jazzmaster style guitar. Thanks for the help bud. Subscribed!

Dude, you had had to remove all the electronics in the first place. Dust from sanding got into the pots and pickups no matter how you taped it. It was really stupid not to do. Otherwise excellent job

Interesting perspective! I don't leave in footage where the pots are disassembled and cleaned. No one would watch it. I also don't take apart original and completely untouched 60 year old electronics any more than giving someone an ekg for no reason. For one, any breaks in original solder or fragile grounding plates on such a guitar would be used against me in the price. Secondly, it isn't worth upsetting tempermental electrics on a guitar worth more not working than unoriginal. But thanks for the backhanded compliment. It goes great with coffee. Plus, every comment and response algorithmically pushes this little channel along. If you still disagree, I urge you to make a video about it and appeal to the thoughts of your subscribers. I would be interested in hearing a broad perspective. I'm sure the results would vary widely.

Sorry to be a pest. I’m putting together my Jazzmaster build and my AO neck maple looks really light. I’m wondering if I can spray vintage amber on top of it. So nitro over nitro. Seems easy but too easy. Any thoughts or tips are appreciated!
@breilly66
@breilly66 5 месяцев назад
Not being a lest at all! And yep! You can shoot nitro over nitro. I suggest giving it a light circular pass with a scotchbrite pad and a mist until surface is dull with no sheen. This will help the fresh pass etch into the existing finish and eliminate chances of peeling or fish-eyeing. Anything I can do to help, Bry!

@@breilly66 awesome! Thank you! I had a feeling it would be ok. But the technique you recommended I wouldn’t have done so thanks. Do you recommend a vintage amber for a neck? I was looking at stew Mac.

@brywestwhit Stew Mac is good. They're consistent in hue and the product is solid. I'd suggest them.
