That was a really good interview. Shame that Quake is not a mainstream game since these guys are so insanely skilled and Quake 1v1 is for me one of the most entertaining esports games to watch. TDM on the other hand is a bit of a snore fest sadly :/
@@morky3673 That's more to do with Quake having competitive 1v1 while CS is purely team sport, I still respect the skill it takes to master Counter Strike
@@miguelpereira9859 of course. CS is no walk in the park even in comparison. Different skills, different application. Not really fair to compare but I do anyway haha.
I've seen like 95% of the video material you've produced and this is definitely one of my favorites! Your interview skills are insane and while initially I thought doing it via distance would be a negative, i think it's the other way around since these guys feel a lot more relaxed behind their computers. Looking forward to more material, no matter the subject.
Thooorin Hey Thooorin I just wanted to say you are the greatest. I watch all of your videos you ask the best questions and seem like a legitimate cool guy. Keep up the great work.
Serikzhan Niyazov 6:05 Cypher said: Polosatiy, Pele Pele - old Quake player. Interview with Pele, 2001 years on English www.gamekult.com/actu/interview-de-pelepk-A3569.html?p=3
This was an awesome interview glad you decided for it to be in russian you can really tell he expressed himself much better.Really liked his way of thinking and analyzing, very well done Thorin! :D
44:24 Cypher actually tells that before the 3 weeks prior to DH mark he was losing to evil constantly, not winning him, and that when it was only 3 weeks before the tournament he finally was able to get himself together and well.
Thats what Cooller did against Toxic before Quakecon :) He even said "Do you wanna continue? Im not much of a challenge" And he came 2nd at Quakecon :)
Strange. Cypher says that in Q4 aiming was harder and the game was faster. But as I remember it, my rail went to stable 60% flick in Q4, I wasn't even thinking about if I miss or not, I just knew I will hit. In Q3 it never felt that way, it's like mouse movement in there is a lot more vivid and alive and can go out of hand more than it's not.
Amazing video, incredible to get this sort of insight from a legend like Cypher. I was just wondering, why is he refering to Cypher in 3rd person at some points (for example the part where he talks about Evil), I just found it weird, is it like a thing that has to do with the russian language or something?
Checkout Faceit on twitch this weekend to see Cypher play a 5000 $ quake tournament. DDK casting, who has his roots in playing and casting quake at a high level.
I like getting good answers from pros, the only sad thing is I use your videos usually like a background podcast. But imo keep doing it, just not too much.
yeah, guys, all top players still playing, who is interested, this weekend is gonna be a FaceIt tournament for 5k and on 23-26july QuakeCon (live on twitch) so u can't quit quake, quake quits you... :)
@@miguelpereira9859 very true. I can't remember where my headspace was when I wrote that a year ago, but I'm sure I wasn't getting it. I think I had a moment right after that where I was duelling online for a few weeks, & something started to really click- especially during one particularly crazy upset that I pulled off.
Neo Viper lol, those kid one of the most great player in esport, 10~ years in pro-scene, and top 3 player of all quake history and top 10 player of full esport history, now time for ON brain, just watch this movie "CYPHER CYPHER CYPHER (Quake Live)" and look quake player skill.. P.S. Sorry for bad english.
why was cypher always so dismissive / disrespectful towards Evil? its honestly really unfair to him as Evil in all probability was a better player than Cypher.
At 25:38 he doesn't say "hadn't lost to anyone" but ofc "wasn't losing to anyone". There's a few other inaccuracies. 36:30 here he means ofc "can't remember what I told STRENX" But yeah I wish old school players would adopt the new names of all the maps, because... objectively it's not smart or newb-friendly to call them by code names now is it? T7, ZTN, dm6... It's not easy to remember which one is which when the game doesn't even use those names any more. I get they have a tradition but objectively they're really stupid.
sure i dont know evey detail, but i know the players that brought the game to a new level and and with that envolved all the other players to be better. Thats the players that are great. Threre are a lot of them yes, but he is one of them.
PivBlast yeah i also have seen this, i had a friend link my some of his recent games of cs:go but cannot remember the source sorry, it might of been a twitch vod.
PivBlast its the only way to actually stay relevant. quake and ue are kill and so is shootmania. He has huge talent and in order to stay sponsored he might need to switch to go.
