The sound design isn't great but that's not the reason. Imo, the sound for race/defrag doesn't add a ton to movies. You're only going to hear the same jumping sound over and over with little variety except maybe some weapon sounds occasionally. That's why most defrag movies have no sounds or game sounds so low they're almost inaudible.
@@Tin9102 I don't know, but it wasn't defrag (which was released in 2000). There's race modes in QuakeWorld and Quake 2. EDIT: Besides, what does it matter? Reflex obviously emulates CPM Defrag but has some slight differences in gameplay and features.
@@Tin9102 Two issues: 1) Reflex was not focused on being a replacement for defrag. It was meant to be a "successor" to CPM, and has a lot of new features/technology that the old Quake 3 engine does not. For instance, real-time mapping makes it vastly easier to make maps, and test them. Steam integration means sharing maps and mods a lot easier. Updated graphics make the game more attractive to newer players. Et cetera. 2) I think the effect Reflex has is the opposite of splitting the community. There's several different "defrag" type games out there and many folks enjoy playing all of them. There's become a bit of circuit of tournaments available to players in Defrag, Xonotic, Warsow, Reflex, QW, and other games. W00dy, who recently won DFWC, and others have been working to unify the various communities. We all enjoy different flavors of the same thing. It makes sense to have one umbrella where people can go and enjoy all the different flavors.
