I got diagnosed with H.Pylori mid september, took triple therapy with pantoprazole. I changed my diet up completely, supplemented probiotics, quit taking pantoprazole this past saturday because I was directed by my doctor to take it 2 weeks after finishing the antibiotics. Not sure if I'm having rebound reflux after stopping the PPI but I am currently struggling to find relief until everything is managed properly.

I find a lot of people need to taper their PPI down, and may also need some gut lining support after H pylori treatment...I have some suggestions in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-80JudNO2V4A.html

Hello Amanda, I hope all is well with you. In April this year I went into the ER with what felt like a heart attack. Doctor’s and nurses did tests and ruled that there were no signs. I feel that my reflux began because I was eating late in the evening and the meal was too big for my stomach. Plus, I was laying down to sleep perhaps too early before my dinner was digested. My doctor prescribed pantoprazole 40mg to take in the morning. It helped, but as I didn’t modify my diet, the symptoms were still there. From May through September, I am taking ppi’s still and they are helping but not all the time. My diet consists mostly of low acid foods and only drinking water. I also feel that I may have LPR since I have a sour taste in my mouth in the morning and throughout the day. Also, a lump in my throat after eating a meal. I am also in an interesting situation where I am currently recovering at home from open heart surgery. Tomorrow would be 2 months since my surgery. My doctor recommended that I first recover from the surgery and then I could perhaps see a specialist in the future. No cough has developed and there is post-nasal drip. A little burning sensation on my tongue as well. Unfortunately, I have to lay down when I need to rest, but that seems to make the symptoms a bit worse. Would you recommend I start using betaine hcl with pepsin? Or apple cider vinegar with water? Or even the Gaviscon as well? Thank you so much for your time and your videos are very informative! Liked and subbed.
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
Hi Revolution, I don't think I wouold introduce the ACV or betaine right now, I would encourage you to try the Gaviscon first. Stop the reflux first, THEN support stomach acid, to prevent further burning or damage. Thanks for watching!

I was able to get off them after many years, by taking one every second day, third day then 4th day , when I got past the 4th day I also got a lower dose , took this for a couple weeks then stopped . I had some rebound symptoms for a couple weeks and would take an occasional Tums . I did this reduction over about a 2 month period. Feel much better off this horrible medication.

Yes, low stomach acid would definitely make it harder to digest proteins. BUt we still need to confirm this by observing what happens if you increase it. Do you feel better or not? The answer to that question is gold! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video, I have been on PPIs for 6 weeks and they provide absolutely no relief to LPR symptoms. However I've diagnosed with chronic mild gastritis. Doctor encourages me to continue taking PPIs for another 2-4 weeks to help heal gastritis. Can I drink apple cider vinegar after that? Want to get rid of LPR badly but afraid to make gastritis worse.
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 2 года назад
Hi Andrey, with no improvement, my read on the PPI is that the mechanism of your LPR is not too much acid. You can carefully try the vinegar, but stop if it causing anything to worsen. You may need to explore food or other possible triggers. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for this very informative video! I just did the baking soda test and resulted to low stomach acid. But I am on ppi so I am wondering if the result of my test was because of the ppi?
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
Somewhat likely, that is the job of the medication, after all! It can take some time after stopping for your stomach acid to regulate too. Why have you been taking the PPI?
@HTB6493
@HTB6493 3 года назад
Hey, I just had a heidelberg test, I have high acid, my stomach returns to an acid state very quickly which closes the valve of my stomach which in turn delays my gastric emptying, do you think I should try ppi for a month? I've never used them, is it safe? I feel really stuck on what to do 😕 great channel BTW, love your content, how do you not have more subs!?
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
Hi HB, when contemplating medications, it's always a good idea to weigh the risks vs the benefits. PPIs are generally safe for short term use, but my understanding is that long term use comes with risks, which are noted in the pharmacy addendums. It's important to include quality of life issues in your analysis. Is your excess acid due to a deficiency of PPIs? Probably not. Might it buy you time to learn more? Is it possible it can reset your stomach acid production? I don't know, but these are great questions to discuss with your doctor. Thanks for watching and for your question.

My mother had Hashimoto's syndrome. She also had a hiatal hernia. My stepfather was a Chiropractor and resolved that. I've been able to do that to myself. Sitting can somehow push fluids up the esophagus. I use a cushion as a prop to angle my position so that there's little pressure on the stomach.
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
YEs, posture and positioning can affect reflux, so the cushions are a good idea. Also sleeping with a wedge can help too. I hope the Reflux Gourmet is helpful.
@teller1290

Can you go into the posture-in- sitting thing in more detail. Maybe also you could do some review on best GERD beds...like the kind that lets you lay straight, full length, at various elevations...as opposed to adjustable upper half of bed (potentially putting pressure on gut by bending in the middle). Just a suggestion. Thx.
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
@@teller1290 Basically, if you sit with your belly crunched up all day at a desk, or in a car, this can compress the diaphragm, the stomach, and the lower esophageal sphnicter. Sitting with good upright posture is important. I've also heard from some people who had weak core muscles that affected their reflux. Basically, we want to sit in a wya that leaves space for our organs to function. Does that make sense? I've never heard of the beds of which you speak, but I will look into that.
@teller1290
@teller1290 3 года назад
@@ConfluenceNutrition thx. What about recliners. You can stretch back but when you're at about 45 degrees I've noticed that it seems to be a crunch of sorts...and I've spent a LOT of time in it the past 13 years. As for beds, there are two basic types. One, has the upper half going up to some degree or of there, while legs are adjustable so they may be raised some inches. The other is a bed that moves as one full-length section, head to toe (like a full length bed wedge except it moves).

Hi Mounika, I'm not sure exactly...there could be many potential causes for this...the first place I would start is by asking if you are getting enough protein, healthy fat, and fiber in your diet? These three elements of a meal help satiate you longer.

Hi. I have been acidic since I was in high school and I am 40 y.o. now. I also have hemorrhoids, IBS and GERD. Been diagnosed with Gastric Enteritis a couple of years ago via endoscopy procedure. I am desperate and thinking of trying Colon Hydratherapy. I always feel bloated, slow metabolism, poor sleep etc . Been practicing Intermittent Fasting for 4-5 months now with 16:8 - 21:3 ratio but to no avail. I barely lost any weight though I can feel some of my skin loosening but it just doesnt match the effort , time and significant decrease in food intake. My gut problem is my constant stress driver for many years now. 🥺

Hey Jaz, I'm sorry you're feeling overwhelmed by your gut symptoms, I can relate! Has your doctor evaluated you for h. pylori or other gut infections? Have you done a trial of probiotic therapy? How have you been supporting your digestion? Colon hydrotherapy can be helpful, but it's important that you lay your own foundations with your day to day habits...it's not exciting or sexy, but we often need to return to the basics and REALLY dedicate ourselves there before moving on to more elaborate solutions. I have been on pantoprazole for approximately 15 years. I now have osteoporosis, arthritis, worsening asthma and C.O.P.D. I have asked my doctor on several occasions if the pantoprazole could be the culprit and was met with a " meh it's better than stomach cancer". I am trying to ween myself off this medication and am experiencing rebound reflux. I am dealing with it by taking over the counter antacids such as rolaids and pepcid. I am also trying to lose weight and watching what I eat. ( staying away from alcohol, chocolate, red sauces and the like.)

@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
Hi Daphne, the H2 blockers also suppress acid, so they carry some of the same problems...i think experimenting with stomach acid support, alongside soothing items like aloe or DGL is the experiment to try. It may also be worth evaluating for gut infections like h pylori or others that can contribute to these problems, and also working with food choices. Thanks for watching!

I’m dealing with rebound heartburn/reflux now. I actually never had heartburn but I was prescribed a ppi for mild gastritis. After 7 weeks of awfulness of PPIs, I decided to get off of them. Then I had a rebound attack which was horrific. Now I’m weaning myself off with an H2 blocker. It’ll probably take a few weeks. The whole experience has been awful. I wish I never used those drugs.

Can PPI's be effective for healing gastritis? It's a unique situation, but I was given some herbal tinctures while treating chronic Lyme disease and they caused pretty severe gastritis and inflammation in part of my duodenum. I took slippery elm powder for a while and the symptoms improved. However, I've started treating my illnesses again and have developed constant nausea and frequent dry heaving, esp after taking supplements. My doc thinks the gastritis may not have healed totally and wants to put me on a PPI. Can the PPI fully heal the gastritis or is it just a band aid? Can it make things worse? Thank you!
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
Hi Howard, you should definitely work with your doctor to create the best plan here. But to answer your question, yes, PPIs can help with acute gastritis. However, they do have side effects which for some people are difficult to overcome, so it's worth considering all the angles. It sounds to me like your body really isn't tolerating the herbs...I might work with your doctor to find alternatives that might be more tolerated, or reduce dosage and work slowly up to the therapeutic dose. This reaction can also signal that your elimination pathways are not open enough to tolerate treatment right now. Homeopathic drainage remedies may be a solution, or you just may need to work on this for a while first. My son's ND had him do this for several months before bringing on Lyme treatment with heavier duty herbs... anyway, that's my two cents, I hope that's not too much! Thanks for watching and for your thoughtful questions :)

What about aloe vera juice? or does it decrese acid? Another thing i always wonder about is that people can develop trigger foods(food intolerances) and what confuses me is if avoiding the trigger foods really is a solution, or if there is a reason why they become trigger foods in the first place. I could anything when i was younger and I want to be able to do that again. But if fatty food is to be avoided, it will develop the problem mentioned at the beginning of the video(vegans having lower stomach acid because they consume less fat and protein).
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
Hi there, aloe doesn't increase or decrease acid, but it soothes inflamed skin, so is helpful for reflux and heartburn for SOME but not all people. Regarding the triggering: it's often an infection of some kind, or big stress events that can tip the scales, or eating really poorly coinciding with high stress. Some people are able to get back to eating the trigger foods eventually, while so can not. Fatty food encourages a release of bile, but part of that trigger mechanism is also stomach acid. So the PPIs are really the challenge for the long term here. I'm not suggesting people don't eat fat, just that they would avoid really greasy foods, like fried chicken, oily potato chips, ice cream, coconut milk curry, etc. THanks so much for watching!
