Things which helped. Weight loss, change of diet... less dairy, no bread or wheat products, no tomatoes or oranges, no spicy food. Smaller meals. Gargle each morning with bicarbonate and water. Melon, cooked apple or soft pear after each meal. Cucumber as a snack. Ginger tea.

My silent reflux is characterized by a "false breathlessness" going back sporadically for a decade. I've never had heartburn. Recently, developing acid mist going into nasal passages and mouth. Dental check today showed no GERD - type effects visible, but this latest symptoms only going on couple months. Very nervous about it.

I found same with kale leaves & stalks. Might be combination of nitrates and chewing. Chewing increases production of BDNF (at least it does in rodents), in addition to release of enzymes (but I don't think they are proteases) - maybe it does other stuff we don't know about yet.

But while waiting for the Reflux Gormet - I went to the store and bought a spring mix containing spinach - So i ate that as I waiting for the products to come in and I felt that was helping a lot - Then i started taking the Reflux Gormet at night as instructions said - this is about the 5th or 6th day and I feel so so so much better. My throat has opened up - so much less pressure there - my esophagus is healing - that feel so very much better. That along with the aloa vera - that helps too. I havent felt this good in about a year! I was diagnosed with LPR. I have low stomach not high, not enough stomach acid is unfortunately common as we age, I’m almost 60. PPIs do not help people low stomach acid so after taking it for awhile and no improvement I went to a specialist. My understanding is that LPR, like regular acid reflux or GERD is usually caused by low stomach acid and that is what needs to be corrected.

@las5510
@las5510 3 года назад
This was really informative. I know I personally dealt with a lot of reflux due to my Gastro dysmotility and intestinal failure which weakened my entire system and due to my connective tissue disease I already had weakened teeth but the reflux made the damage especially to my molars much more severe. I can attest that even when I didn't have reflux symptoms that I wasn't aware of the damage was being done. Definitely something to not brush off if you're experiencing it because you don't want to deal with the aftermath which is much harder to treat than preventing the reflux itself. One thing I learned in this video that I thought was extremely fascinating was that the burning sensation isn't from the reflux itself but from that enzyme. I never knew that and I find that extremely fascinating. I also for my personal experience am extremely curious if that's why I stopped experiencing symptoms because my pancreas has atrophied due to my GI paralysis and I've stopped making most of my digestive enzymes. So that's something I'll have to look into for my own research just because I like to know these things since I'm such a medical nerd. Was happy to see you upload a video you look absolutely amazing. When we first saw you you looked great then as well but I have to say you look healthier than ever and just absolutely glowing and that makes me really happy to see. Sending love from the east coast 🤗💜
@las5510
@las5510 3 года назад
Oh and unfortunately I don't have anything that worked for me to improve the reflux. Since mine is really complex and I have so many overlapping diagnosis along with a connective tissue disease and damage so severe that was done from 35 years of misdiagnosis it's something that at least for now I'm kind of stuck with. If you're someone reading my comment who is frustrated because they're not getting better from something they're dealing with please remember instead of getting angry at your body feeling like it's betrayed you somehow, thank your body for continuing to carry you through the dysfunction and have you waking up every morning to face a new day. Your body never wants to work against you. It always wants to work with you. Sometimes things just break and need to be fixed or tweaked, but it's not a betrayal of your body against yourself. You're a team that works together. So thank your body every day for seeing you through the hard times when it's not working the way it should but somehow it manages to keep you going even when it's not working like it should. I promise that having that mindset may not heal you but the different perspective of it is extremely liberating.

I take the reflux gourmet and it really helps-especially before bed because I've often woken up with acid in my mouth and tongue pain! I've also tried Melatonin and for some reason it makes me itch so had to stop-really weird just generalized itching and not really any rash like an allergic reaction. L-tryptophan makes me sleepy (as you'd expect) and I did take it at night but felt kind of sluggish or hungover the next day! I might try L-tryptophan again but the alginates seem to help for now. Hi Diane, it's true that stomach acid helps keep the LPR closed. AND, some people have damaged inner skin from the reflux, in their stomach and esophagus, and HCL irritates things and makes things worse. Basically, you can try it and if you feel like it helps and doesn't increase irritation, then by all means, include it and continue. My coughing, shortness of breath was so severe for months, the doctor told me to go off of Coffee, caffeine for 30 days and he put me on omniziprel for 30 days and it magically cured my cough. It was rally bizarre to think my large 4 cups of coffee was doing that much damage. I always thought it was just a big mug. It was difficult but I just styed home and started fasting and watching netflix and it was easier in the end to break the coffee habit.

@ConfluenceNutrition

It can definitely be a factor...I developed reflux about a year before I started SIBO treatment, and SIBO treatment resolved it. As soon as I started treatment, this gas pressure I was feeling lessened and then disappeared. I hadn't even realized I was feeling it constantly until it went away. So do explore SIBO as a possible underlying cause of reflux.

I have been dealing with LPR for 2yrs now. For more than a year, I took PPIs which eventually didn't treat the disease. I cough like crazy every time I get an attack and it is embarrassing especially when having a business meeting. Sleeping is a big problem for me no matter how my upper body is elevated. I tried some cabbage juice which only worked for a week. My doctor advised surgery but I wanna try to lose some weight before considering the former.

Hi Rhoda, healing from these gut challenges takes some doing, and for many of us isn't simply a matter of taking a medication. Losing weight often can help reflux, but so can eating an appropriate diet, supporting our digestive function, and some key supplements used appropriately. Some of the suggestions in my video can help. In my upcoming new online course, I will be teaching the process of how to learn what your body needs to heal. I'm currently interviewing people who are struggling with this as I research what needs to go in the program. Would you like to be interviewed? Probiotics help a little, but, not nearly enough. I'm not sleeping well at all. I'm gagging and hacking thick saliva at times, constantly. Constant itchiness in and under the vocals. Constant irritation in my stomach. My doctor gave me omeprazole which made it worse. I took that for 90 days. At first it seemed to help. But my stomach was always in a state of discomfort. I stopped drinking coffee which sucked. I began drinking coffee again after the omeprazole failed. I don't smoke or drink. I'm completely stopped in my life by this. I'm too tired to all the time because no matter how long I'm in bed, I'm never rested. I'm always aware of my irritated stomach while I sleep.

@@ConfluenceNutrition I haven't, or that is, I wasn't aware of fodmat and a low histamine diet. However, I have noticed certain foods and snacks that do trigger this. I'm in a lot of discomfort at this moment and have been for days. I did send away for the product you mentioned in this video. I ve already forgotten it's name. It was the second one you mentioned after the Gaviscon advance. It's produced in California. I think it was the one you used. I'm waiting for that to arrive. I'm not positive of what foods might be triggers. I think it's possible that my after workout protein drink my be a trigger. It consists of protein powder, milk, raw eggs, some honey. My mouth, tongue, is always sour tasting and I'm constantly cleaning it as I'm about to do. I haven't been to the gym for two days, but, I'm dragging myself there tonight no matter what. I also wonder if dairy products are triggers recently.. like cottage cheese. If I catch it before it gets real bad like it is right now, I use Alka Seltzer. That really works, but only if taken "before" it gets bad. Thank you for your response. Btw, I have noticed that steamed broccoli is rather soothing on my stomach, but, only if my stomach isn't in a bad way. Like, right now, I have to eat something before I leave. It will be cereal, either Kashi wheat biscuit cereal or organic raisin bran, or cascadian farms blueberry crunch with milk and honey. I have taken a multivitamin.first. sitting up has helped since I started typing this, but, I'm so burned out. Hi Fleet Silverfox, I'm glad you found the video helpful...PPIs do affect nutrient availability because stomach acid helps us absorb iron, vitamin B12 and zinc. A very complicated issue,you need to be a detective. I was a smoker and kept getting chest infections I was treated with antibiotics and a reliever inhaler . I packed up smoking and still got infections and one day couldn’t breathe. Went straight to Drs surgery he put me on nebuliser and sent me to hospital . Same again antibiotics ,inhaler and also prednisone a steroid .went for a spirometry said I had COPD. Used different types of inhalers by this time I was so out of breath,couldn’t walk upstairs without an effort . Then they decided I had asthma and COPD and GERD .. By this time my throat has hoarseness which I thought was a side effect from inhalers . I was taking omeprazole didn’t notice anything . Im drinking apple cider vinegar and manuka honey I have noticed an improvement. I’m diagnosing myself as LPR. My Asthma and COPD has improved well sometimes not to sure if I have any of those problems .

I keep reading about people having relief from apple cider vinegar but I'm really confused because vinegar is so acidic and I'm told that acidic foods make things worse. Can you help to explain why apple cider vinegar would work? Doesn't vinegar activate the pepsin in throat which causes damage to throat membrane?
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 3 года назад
@@sandersthornburgh127 Hi Sanders, great question. Apple cider vinegar and all stomach acid support helps keep the lower esophageal sphincter closed to prevent reflux. THe trouble is, when your esophagus is raw or irritated, you're right, the acid can be irritating. It doesn't activate the pepsin, the pepsin itself is the irritant. Lately, what I've been suggesting to people is to use an alginate product (gaviscon advance, or reflux gourmet) to stop the reflux from happening, and to add stomach soothers, like slippery elm or aloe to help heal. Alginates deactivate the pepsin working in the throat. The biggest problem with LPR is the pepsine which comes up with the acid gas from the stomach.
@ConfluenceNutrition
@ConfluenceNutrition 2 года назад
This is definitely part of the problem, and alginate may do so, but my understanding is that alginate helps prevent reflux from occuring by physically blocking the opening by forming a foam raft on top of your food.
