Even if Global Warming wasn't an issue which I believe is. The water cycle has been affected by deforestation and that's enough to take action!

Absolutely agree. If you want to help restore forest, why not switch your search engine to Ecosia. They are just like Google but use all their profits to plant trees and use 200% renewable energy sources.

A wide variety of things can be done to help reduce the rate of deforestation. One thing that might help would be to keep our wooden furniture for as long as possible. If we replace it with brand new furniture too frequently, the demand for fresh wood will remain. While the demand for wood remains high, loggers will continue chopping trees down in high numbers. Some of the wooden furniture in my home is over 30+ years old and still in good condition. I have no plans to replace it any time soon. Wooden furniture can last a long time if you take care of it. Replanting trees and allowing everything else to grow back should be heavily promoted.

REFORESTAR REFORESTAR ÁRBOLES NATIVOS PARA QUE VUELVA EL CICLO DE VIDA. LOS ÁRBOLES REGULAN LA TEMPERATURA EN LA CORTEZA TERRESTRE. RESGUARDAN LAS NAPAS SUBTERRÁNEAS. NO EXISTIRÍA EL CAMBIO CLIMÁTICO. NO EXISTIRÍA EL CALENTAMIENTO GLOBAL. PRIORIDAD PARA TODOS LOS PAÍSES DEL MUNDO. JUNTOS PODEMOS.

Why are people planting more non-native conifers than native trees?
@gustav.schwanzlutscher1950
@gustav.schwanzlutscher1950 7 лет назад
because non-native conifers store more carbon per acre and can live for thousands of years, examples redwoods and sequoias. And with many species there is little to no risk of unwanted spread.

Because Hardwood trees that you are thinking of atm, Suck. I hate oaks, maples, birches, Figs, Ficus, Ash, Acacias, etc... they all suck because they are Angiosperms and depend on a Pollinator to produce seeds. Conifers are Self-Pollinated.

Probably because they're easy cash crops. Like others have said, they are self-pollinating, and once planted don't require much upkeep after planting, as they are non-native and therefore don't have natural predators. Conifers grow fast and straight, while still giving high-quality hardwood. They're perfect building materials, although not great for biodiversity.

All the eco-babble used to justify it is off-putting. Also, it will invite people to make counterarguments about how the seas and oceans and other bodies of water act as a carbon sink. It is a simpler argument to just say that deserts suck and trees look nicer and have a cooler temperature. A digestable argument. You can also chop down some trees just now and then to get to useful stuff under the ground (carefully), and then put the trees back again.

Without humans all plants would die in a couple of million years because they wouldn't have enough CO2 any more. The CO2 levels were never so low. They have just risen a bit in the last years. Still, reforestation is really important for our environment.
@ladyselenafelicitywhite1596
@ladyselenafelicitywhite1596 3 года назад
Solar, Without humans nature will do just fine. If carbon dioxide levels fell below the level to support plants, some of the plant life would die off. Then volcanos would increase the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Life survived billions of years before we were here. However, glad to see you support reforestation. Sabrina, Absolutely. Humans are destroying forests at an unprecedented rate. There is a search engine called Ecosia. It is just like Google but they give all their profits to reforestation projects and use 200% renewable energy sources.

I wrote this comment 3 years ago, and I changed my opinion by now. I use Ecosia too btw, I think I started using it at a similar time as writing this comment. Yeah, people do way more harm than good atm. I'm just wondering right now, while contemplating where I stand on this topic nowadays, whether big enough volcano outbreaks would occur quickly enough before plants dying of at huge rates, taking many animal species with them. That's one of the reasons why dinosaurs went extinct. The impact resulted in giant clouds blocking sunlight, making earth too dark for many plants. The resulting lack of food killed of many animals, especially the bigger ones. So right now we're causing a mass extinction, apparently at an unprecedented rate, but I'm just wondering if the mass extinction would've come anyway. On the other hand, there are photosynthesis pathways (C4 and CAM) that require more energy (so they work best in really bright areas) that are adapted to be efficient despite lowering CO2 rates, so the results would probably still be better than the fast mass extinction we're causing right now. In the end, there's no way other than becoming more environmentally friendly or we will get into a disaster eventually.

Leaving All Dirty Energy Behind is our only chance ! The Scientists around the world have told us in 11 years we will reach a point of Chemical Reaction on this planet where more Natural Carbon and Methane will Be too high for Existing Nature to sequester in the soil ! That we have removed most of the Lungs of the Planet , the Forests < , We Have Run Out Of Time !!! Only Politicians that are for this will be recognized in the majority of voting around the world !
