From what I can see so far, this is looking like a really well designed survival game in terms of gameplay, and I'm SO EXCITED to play it! Some of my favorite things that I think are really going to set this game apart from all those before it: - The looping world generation and gateway system (this would give exploration a new feel: instead of walking in one direction, you link together separate areas) - The wingsuit and the river caves and erosion (this sounds like so much fun, especially paired together. This will likely be the game's defining feature. Looks better than the elytra!) - The idea of smaller 'elements' and improved customization (this gives a lot more variety and detail to the game's environment) - I'm so intrigued about the storytelling elements... I want to hear more about this... - Immediatly captivated with realistic water physics (PLEASE TRY TO INCORPORATE LAW OF CONSERVATION OF MASS) However, there are a few things that I noticed that don't seem right. I know the game is pre-alpha, but I can't imagine any playable release with these features: - The entire world feels slightly small scale - meaning that the environment should be slightly larger compared to the player, especially for mountains - The player model feels janky and unnatural - the way it moves seems really exaggerated and cartoonish, and it seems overall too skinny - The trees don't look right (they need a remodel, I don't know what else to say), and also the natural foliage needs more variety and quantity, to look more like the key art - The grass in some areas looks over saturated - 4096 elements seems really, really small and confined, and considering the scale it seems like the equivalent of only ~1500 Minecraft blocks (maybe this is intentional...?) - Building system seems lengthy, overcomplicated, and needs shortcuts/construction tools/improved menus/improved speed of building (it seems like building would be tedious) Again, this looks GREAT and I can only imagine the directions this game could go in (I think I might have a good idea...)
If you guys are checking the comments for criticism I have some thoughts. On art style my biggest gripe is the character. They are very thin and unappealing. I would go for a much thicker direction. That way the character would take up more space on the third person screen and has more potential to have more interesting skins. Secondly I hope you guys include local splitscreen multiplayer! And finally I hope you go for an engaging combat system. I would look more towards Terraria for combat rather then Minecraft. Have lots of weapons with classes and a much more in depth progression system. Giving weapons unique combos could also be fun. All in all a really in depth and engaging combat system would really set the game apart from Minecraft. Glad to see Stampy taking on Game design, I'm sure you guys will do great!
I would absolutely love if 4J could get c418 to do the soundtrack for the game, not just because he did Minecraft’s but because the guy is just really gifted in making atmospheric music for games and i know 4J would let him do whatever he feels is right as in legacy console minecraft his music was (i feel) played so much more often and felt more impactful then on java it was truly intertwined with what you were doing and made precious memories.
I honestly think Reforj is going to be more like Vintage Story more than it is Minecraft. Especially from the description of the gateways, small bits of lore and story and the building mechanics. Which makes me even more hyped for it, can't wait to see where Reforj goes in a couple years!
POV: me if 4J announces Reforj preorders/open beta, 0.00000000001s later. I'm so excited for Reforj, and I'll get it as soon as I'm able to. It's nice to see the community having a place in the development cycle! Props to everyone at 4J - you are LEGENDS!
The gateways idea for getting to new types of areas in the game seems really interesting and genuinely very cool. The one thing I'd be really wanting to stress personally would be that whatever type of interactions the player makes with the gateway absolutely need to be organic and using mechanics within the game imo, instead of having some form of menu of interface. If it has a menu then it's going to end up feeling like you're just creating a new world from the main menu again, which would kinda defeat the purpose of them.
Seeing as it’s planned to have a wingsuit right away, it might be fun to have terrain that lets you take more advantage of it. Super excited about all of this!
Man if only some other voxel game/company was open with their community like this and had actual meaningful conversation with the community instead of answering an ASKHYTALE about a FONT CHANGE on the blogposts…Hytale take some damn notes.
God I'm so happy seeing any new info on this, I'm so hyped haha. I'm really excited for minigames and tutorial worlds (LOVED them in Minecraft Xbox 360). I think having a horror type biome underground (similar to that new forest that got added with the Creaking in Minecraft, or maybe like the deepnest area in Hollow Knight) to contrast with all the bright colours in the surface of the world? Having a "dropper" minigame like those custom maps in Minecraft where you jump down a big hole and avoid obstacles to land in a thin layer of water, would be awesome for me. Flying islands like Terraria would be super cool. Also that enemy that was teased... is it that crystal thing in the bottom left of the concept art? Looks like it's something sneaking up on you! That gate idea sounds absolutely amazing! Great way to make it so your worlds don't get broken by any future updates where terrain is overhauled and stuff! It was something that bugged me in Minecraft sometimes
I'm looking forward to the lore/world aspects of the game too. I've always loved environmental storytelling in games and seeing people's videos theorizing about what a certain discovery means in terms of the wider lore of that franchise (Breath of the Wild comes to mind). It'll be really cool to see things like that for Refoj if you guys are hiding clues and things in the world. Excited!
Hello, I'm from Brazil, my opinion is that this game should also be available for mobile (cell phones, Android and iOS) so the game will become very famous, incredible game, congratulations, I loved it, I'm speechless.
I hope they reconsider the “locked 60 fps thing” as PCs and consoles both support and can run games at higher refresh rates. But even if not I can guarantee someone will make an fps unlocker mod within a week so :P
YESSSS thank you for not doing infinite worlds! One of the worst problems with modern MC is how the infinite worlds make it nearly impossible to see all the cool stuff. It's why I prefer Terraria so much more, and the Legacy Console Editions you guys made. Limited-size worlds are a fantastic decision, you guys are awesome.
I never watched Stampy but this game looks like its doing everything I ever wanted the other voxel block games to do. By the way, the low poly virtua fighter style characters are PERFECT. So so so so mucb better than block characters
Since my kids loved to play MineCraft I assembled a list of what is bad about it. MC is a great idea but a terrible implementated game. There are so many opportunities given away that it really hurts. In your game I see slanted blocks in a block game for the first time. Great! This goes the right direction. But a world 4x by 4k wide? Sorry. That sucks. I intended to ask if your engine has LOD - but now I'm pretty sure that the answer is not. These gateways seem to be a lame idea to trick around the fact that it seems to be limited to tiny worlds. You need to support huge worlds. On a massive multiplayer server. Everything else is a toy. Other thing: The worst thing I discovered on my first hour playing minecraft was the fact that a block can float in mid air. In MC there are no physics. You can build whatever you want by unconnected blocks. Its pretty on the one hand, but it prevents being forced to build reasonable constructions (bridges etc.) It should not be possible to build an endless bridgeway into the air. That's dissapointing. Please get some basic gravity and stability physics. (Destructed particles falling down will not do, it is just pointless). Also biomes - in MC the biomes are boring and uniform. Mountains are tiny ridiculous hills. Please support real huge mountains - as real mountains - some K blocks high and biomes 100k far with rivers 100 meters wide and 1000 kilometres long. Think big ! I pray: Dont do the same faults as minecraft does! At the moment your game looks pretty but as pointless as MineCraft is. Do better.
@@mostlime12195 well obviously they’re going to compete with Minecraft wether it’s intentional or not, they’re both blocky sandbox open world games, so they’ll have the same if not similar player base,
@@switchemm COD and Battlefield are both arcadey FPS games. They coexist, and many of the players on one game also happily play the other. What about Terraria? I play both Minecraft and Terraria, I'm sure many others do too (stampy himself has made a, quite large, terraria series) Reforj won't be a Minecraft killer, it's naive to believe so.
4:05 is hilarious to me. After all those rants on stream about how Nintendo isn't using dedicated servers for their games and thus making a really poor user experience, Stampy's involved with a project that also uses a peer-to-peer connection. (Yeah, I know servers are expensive and it's bad from Nintendo as they certainly have the budget to spend on proper servers. But the contrast amuses me lol)
It's primarily about use case. Both peer-to-peer and servers have their pros and cons. In fact most fighting games use peer-to-peer, so it's very odd how bad Smash plays online lol. With this sort of game peer-to-peer definitely makes sense I think.
Pls make this heavily moddable and available on all platforms with controller 🎮 and keyboard and if im lucky vr PLS DO NOT MODERATE PLAYER HOSTED SERVERS
Console mods is VERY wishful thinking. Like, technically Minecraft Java doesn't support modding, you need to change the game's code to do it. Arbitrary code execution on console is a big yikes.
@@krimsonbun did I say that I think player hosted servers are the way it should be not any other way gives players freedom to moderate as they see fit and not have the woke enforce there ideology on ur multiplayer experience
My opinion on on it is that I really think our help that it is exactly Minecraft 2 because of all the updates in Minecraft if you have a Minecraft 2 it would be something really close to this I think and I really think that it should be really cool with all the features and really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really close to Minecraft and for me I'm not going to be able to play the new consoles anytime soon so PlayStation 4 be great and I do like unlimited worlds and different dimensions I wish y'all would put in 2b2t nothing great great cool stuff in that
PLS stay distanced from the woke crowd as Minecraft has been pushing woke agenda making me not want to play if u copy Minecraft and push moderation and woke agenda i will simply vote with my wallet and not buy but i hope u make a good game without woke because i want to buy desperatly
