I'm really sorry my friend i understand you might have some kind of "education" in biblical literature but studying a bunch of crusty old men who argue of useless nonsense. Details about things that were never supposed to be taken literally.. are you not aware that the Bible is all allegory? Get a copy of genesis and read it along with the older Sumerian enuma elish . Then read Noah alongside the epic of Gilgamesh or the Greek deucalion or the Chinese yu and the great flood.. All much older. Then read the story of Samson alongside Hercules. The book off Esther along with akkadian story of Ishtar.. if you want more suggestions i can give you several other biblical stories and the older myths they were copied from if you like. Again I'm sorry. Sorry that you've wasted probably years and years taking stories literally that were never intended to be that way.. what's even sadder is you'll roll your eyes and think I'm the fool and not even investigate what i said.. If they weren't copied from other myths it would be obvious by reading both right? You don't even know what you don't know good luck in Bible college
I don’t really have an “education” in theology. I don’t claim to. I enjoy reading and collecting books. I’m vaguely familiar with the myth parallels to scripture. I’m open to allegory. I don’t think the Bible is completely literal in every place because the context says it isn’t. If you don’t mind, send me some articles by email and I’ll check them out. @@TheChancerian if you know some of it is allegory how do you differentiate what is and what is not? I've never understood the distinction of how one decides.. I should mention looking into kabbalah specifically the "language of Roots and branches" as well as the pardes method of interpretation. Peshat (פְּשָׁט) - "surface" ("straight") or the literal (direct) meaning. Remez (רֶמֶז) - "hints" or the deep (allegoric: hidden or symbolic) meaning beyond just the literal sense. In the version of the New Zohar, Re'iah. Derash (דְּרַשׁ) - from Hebrew darash: "inquire" ("seek") - the comparative (midrashic) meaning, as given through similar occurrences. Sod (סוֹד) - "secret" ("mystery") or the esoteric/mystical meaning, as given through inspiration or revelation. This system was instituted by Rabbi Moses de Leon
Here’s what I meant, I have a strange way of reading and expectations for books. When something is talked up and praised I expect to be wowed and blown away when I read it. Calvin was good, but there’s lots of ranting and opposing Roman theology. Which makes sense for the time. And Bavinck is a neocalvinist constantly responding to German rationalism. I’d much rather read A Brakel any day over him.
