Refrigerant will leak at some point and a repair will have to be made. The HVAC industry is changing rapidly and many unconventional methods are being implemented. Refrigerant leak repair isn't immune to these changes. In this video we use Fix Quick, a two part system to repair a drilled out hole to mimic a refrigerant leak. The pipe was tested at just under 400 psi and held for approx 30 minutes on a 1/16" hole.

It’s unreal. I was given something like this that was 2part epoxy you take a heat gun after to make it cure and harden fully within a minute. I used it on a aluminum to copper joint that was leaking on a big smoked meat display cooler. Long story short, it worked great and I was shocked and sold on it!!

Just looked up name of my stuff. Called Pipeseal and made by dynesic.com. Was sold by United refrigeration. They suggested either it or jb weld and I liked the quick curing of pipeseal so I didn’t try jb. Thanks for tests and great info tho!!

Like laying down a layer of superglue and then putting baking soda powder or glass beads powder over the superglue and then another layer of superglue

Perhaps but I test things and don't assume and the first test is successful

I could understand if you're in an area where you can't use a torch, but if I can see the leak there's no way I'm ever using this stuff..lol. You're absolutely right though times are changing

Lighting a torch is becoming way more of a hassle in a lot of commercial applications

Does the system have to be depressurized and refrigerant recovered in order to make the repair?

Awesome video, thank you for sharing with us. However, I have a question! would this product hold up as long as brazing would do?

It's new so I cant really say yah or nah

I'm gonna sound like a reactionary sceptical old geezer , but I'd like to see if it does sustain the temperature changes of a coil , and also if it doesn't desintegrate from the inside when in prolonged contact with oil and fast moving refrigerant... Remains to be seen I guess innit .

Yes with any new product there's always a break in period

Question I have is why wait 20 mins for a quick fix when you can just solder it shut? No 20 minute wait time and no added materials to truck.

Because some porous evap coils are too weak for a torch, some places don't allow torches due to environment. Some places have fire permits and 4 hour post fire watches. It's just something to have incase.

HVAC Know It All I’d like to see how it handles the expansion contraction. Sometimes the bandaids become permanent fixes and then the customer goes low bid after you pull them from the fire. I’d let it go and have them figure out what needs to happen for the repair.

Agreed even the condenser coil can have a small leak and patching it is a pain even with map gas

Curious to see if it holds a deep vacuum

Good concept, but would make more sense if it can be done under pressure to be considered truly a "quick fix". If you have to remove the charge you mind as well fix it right....

If it can be brazed sure but if yiu have a weak evap coil with pin hole that a torch will damage. This can be handy.
@robertgaitskell7212
@robertgaitskell7212 4 года назад
That’s what I thought might as well weld it
@HVACKnowItAll
@HVACKnowItAll 4 года назад
Thats not what I said. There are cases where brazing can cause more damage, fire permits and fire watches that can not be obtained in emergencies or places where a torch is not even allowed to be lit. Open your mind outside of your own experiences

I agree we should all try to get the customer by past their issue but we wouldn’t want to see a car driving with a missing wheel just because it’s getting them by. If people could they will and that’s the problem with repairs like this. If the coil is that weak where it can’t be soldered then at what point have they pushed it past it’s life expectancy?

Good test of the product, Bro. Is this a temporary fix to get "us" buy or something more permenent? Will the weather conditions (Hot/Cold/Sun/Rain) efffect the fix over time? Thanks
@HVACKnowItAll
@HVACKnowItAll 4 года назад
Not 100% on it's longevity. But if it gets a customer some time until a replacement coil for example then it could work great

Any grocery store - it’s cyanoacrylate glue (Krazy Glue) and baking soda. Remember to rough up the surface before applying the glue.

This is exactly what it looks like. As soon as I heard part 2 was a powder I was wondering if it was baking soda.
