Refused are finishing up their Freedom USA 2015 Tour, but along the way they stopped by Vacation Vinyl for a surprise in-store performance! Pre-order their new album 'Freedom' at officialrefused.com
Such an important band! They changed so much so quick. Amazing. Also, the dude up the front with the bowtie who looks like Steve Carell is quite amazing also.
Each to their own, but if Refused were to play in my local record store. There is absolutely no way that I would be standing still. This is a great track from an absolutely amazing band. I for one am very excited about the new record. So happy that they returned.
OMG, this just blew my face off! And it was at Vacation??? The guys at Amoeba Recs sent me over there one time when they noticed me buying a bunch of metal. They said a former employee just started it up and I went and got a Xasthur LP!
I'm afraid that history repeats itself. Audience is as passive as they were back in 1998 when Refused played in Dundalk, Ireland on 23rd of May (you can find video on YT). With the addition of idiots who are experiencing the band through their smartphones. Back then people were not aware how important the songs from "The shape of punk to come" are. And personally I don't think that "Elektra" has even a bit of power that their previous albums have, but nevertheless I'm really glad that they are back...
vanjamedozg I saw them at Bristol Skate Park (what is now motion) in the UK when they were touring TSOPTC in 1998. Your exactly right, no one really understood what they were witnessing back then. It just sounded so strange at the time - so incredibly different from anything I had heard before. Four guys looking like something out of the beatles with Denis jumping around like some crazy bloke. Everyone was just blown away by it. I'd never heard anything by them, only that they were a 'hardcore' band from Sweden, so I spent the first few songs thinking WTF is this mental music!.....and then they played new noise and everything became clear.
not really.. theyre not allowed to.mosh inside the shop.. if they trashed the place they're gonna pay almost 1000 dollar worth of items and its also common sense.. if they plan in a warehouse or one of those punk clubs ..those hipsters will turn into monsters
@vanjamedozg Agreed about the Dundalk show. But stick Refused on a room of passivity and they still tear the shit outta the place. Can't agreed about the new record. It's so fantastic and every bit as powerful as TSOPTC
***** At what point did punk gigs become Halloween parties? I knew I was out of the loop, but Jesus. There's a difference between adhering to genre aesthetics and peacocking. Mr. 1950s over here falls into the latter.
***** I'm not sure what I've said that would provoke a response like that. Yes, I'm serious when I say that I didn't know punk gigs were actually costume parties disguised as musical performances. And considering how you've replied with the exact same comment on this video to more than one person asking why someone would go to such an effort to draw attention to themselves, I'd say that's a question you should be asking yourself.
***** No, that's precisely the point. He *completely* gives a shit about what he's wearing. He put thought into his outfit, and made an active effort to stand out. He very clearly wants people to notice what he's wearing. Most people just threw on a shirt and jeans, because A: this isn't a Misfits show, and B: choosing to separate yourself from the common person based on something as shallow as the clothes you wear is as defiant and counterculture as an eight-grader dying her hair purple.
***** You know your argument is falling apart when your defenses start contradicting one another. First you said he was awesome for "not giving a single shit about what he's wearing", and one comment later you said "He gives a shit, but so what?" It can't be both, so which is it? Also, try not to tell other people what punk is about. As you can clearly see, the overwhelming majority of audience members dressed normally, as they were presumably hugged enough as children not to seek attention from complete strangers in their adulthood. Are they not punk enough because they've recognized which aspects of the punk "ethos" are commendable and which are applicable only if you're 15 and trying to piss off your stepdad?
***** To be clear, I'm not trying to tell anyone what they can or cannot wear throughout any walk of life. But just know that if you wear a toga and a sea captain's hat to a bar mitzvah, people are well within reason to ask "what the fuck is up with that guy?"
Refused such an interesting band. I am %100 a metalhead but I LOVE this band's musicianship. Such creative riffing. I'm actually not the biggest fan of the lyrics or vocals but I enjoy the hell out of the band! Just funny to me because I am such a huge metalhead and the look/image of this band is anything but metal lol! Goes to show you that really your "style" or "label" doesn't really matter. If you love the music then it's all good! These guys are killer! Been a fan for years!
