I first heard Refused on Punk-O-Rama 4, and again the next year on P-O-R 5. I remember being intrigued and confused at their sound. I hadn't branched too far away from the usual kind of stuff you'd hear on Epitaph at that time, but I'd always listen to those tracks when I had those records on, which was a lot.
Fast forward a few years, and my friend Dave was listening to The Shape of Punk to Come in his truck. I remembered Refused, and by now had been listening to all kinds of music. Strangely enough, I was just getting into Ornette Coleman via his Free Jazz record, and made the connection. I downloaded the record that night and it's been a favorite ever since, with the title track being hands down my favorite.
This was a really fun song to learn and practice. I didn't write out a transcription for this one, but if you're working on it and have any questions, feel free to reach out at scottplaysbassvideo[at]gmail.
I really thought there would be a C# in the section starting at 2:30. I listened to it over and over again and I'm convinced there isn't one, and the bass stays on D. Let me know what you think in the comments.
