My dad had a cell next to reggie in Maidstone, Weald wing I think it was, they got on well. Reggie signed our story for me in 1994. If I was on a visit waiting for dad in the visiting hall Reg always used to invite me over to his table and we’d chat while I waited. Always told me to stay out of trouble, I used to get a birthday card of him every year. I met a lot of famous gangsters on those sundays and they would always slip me a red one and tell me to go buy some sweets and keep the change 😄
Thats a really interesting story pal. If you don't mind me asking, tell me to fuck off otherwise, how old were you and how long did your Dad spend inside? and did visiting him have a negative affect on you or was it a novelty being around such characters?
@@aprc1977a I was 14 at the time that I’m talking. Not at all it had a positive effect, it made me never to want to be on the other side of a prison visiting table so it kept me on the straight and narrow to a certain degree. He was a lifer got a 12 stretch, and did the full time, longest sentence for importing at the time, they really wanted him and in the end they got him, the fucked up thing was they didn’t really have much and it was half a set up as he beat an un-winnable case a few years before which they were fuming about. They always get you in the end. Being 14 at the time I loved it as I looked up to all the old hounds as you would at that age. As fucked up as the situation was I benefited from it in ways as best I could, I definitely used the advantages of what came from being around those fellas. I could write a book to be honest.

My missus is Italian and she was traumatised terribly having to visit her Dad many years ago. Thats the reason I asked mate. I understand what you mean about the old timers. They have like an aura and young lads look up to that coming from working class council estates with not much outlook on life. Were Im from organized crime is a big thing and growing up I deluded myself into wanting to mix it up and get a name acting the bollox selling drugs and all that. Nothing major, but it wasnt me. Not cut out for it. Besides Ive seen the outcome and murders many many times. I ended up with an addiction for many years that took everything from me. Was lucky to get help and never looked back. Went to college and 1 year from a degree now so all is good now. You know what they say...all that glitters and all that. I got a Canary from Reg when visited my uncle in Maidstone in 1987. Made me laugh we got a photo of them on a stage doing a play together. All the old heads were sweethearts really. Acting & breeding Canaries was a far cry from what they were lifed off for eh!
