@@fidelios_frequency Hey, I was in it til that hum went away…😂 As you know, the REGA carts are to take the guesswork out of setup with the 3 screws, but that Shure is a much better cart, imo. I used to have one but gave it to a friend. Still got an M97xE (which Chad uses) and a 91ED that I wired as a mono cart. One deck for stereo, one for mono. We’re obsessive. 😂 Anyway, glad you got everything sorted, cuz during your vid, I was thinking, “this poor guy buys a new table and it gave you grief) lol Talk to ya soon, Arnaldo. 🔊😊🎶💜

Being from England I have a love of Rega turntables. I even met Roy Gandy at a hi-fi show in February here in the UK. Such a shame you’ve had so many issues. It would indicate that whilst the deck is well designed, a little more care is in order during build. On the lid, all P6s come with a smoked type. When starting my Rega turntable I would always give the platter a small pre-spin by hand. This reduces wear on the motor and belt. I also leave my platter running between records, even on my current Linn turntable. Now it’s working as it should, I have no doubt you’ll get hours of pleasure from it. And despite what others say, I’m glad you can tell the difference between your P6 and your previous turntables.

I bought the P6 about a year and a half ago, also from Audio Advice, with the Exact 2 cart pre-installed. I've had zero issues, and really love the table. The spin-up squeak is something I have as well but have been told the same, just the belt rubbing a bit while torquing up speed - I just give it a quick spin with my hand as I'm turning it on to prevent the squeak. Was a great improvement over a couple different ProJect tables I'd had. Last year I upgraded to the Rega Aria Mk3 phono preamp and it was another incredible improvement again. Very pleased with every aspect of the system at this point (which is also using Rega RS5 speakers...a theme....and a Jolida tube integrated amp). Enjoy the Rega! Consider one of their cartridges. They really are designed as a system.

Congrats on you purchase! The p6 plinth and the RB330 arm I am sure are awesome together. I just did the opposite...left Rega (P3 + PSU) for Pro-Ject (X1B) lol. I wanted azimuth / vta controls for exploring cartridges more easily, built in grounding post (dead quiet vs. p3), and mini xlr out vs rca were factors for me. If you are looking for phono pre-amp options, I would highly recommend the Schiit Mani 2 as an excellent entry point (under $200). Such a step up from my Musical Fidelity M5si integrated's phono stage.

Thank you! I forgot to mention I have a phono stage Rega Fono Mini A2D. I believe the way to adjust azimuth in the P3/6 is through the use of shims. I haven’t had the need yet as it seems that the height of my cart is just right. How do you like the X1B?
@false_binary
@false_binary Месяц назад
@@fidelios_frequency Awesome! Yes need shims, fortunately many resources out there on many diff carts. I am playing (Japanese) George Michael's Faith right now on the X1B...super dynamic, accurate, and transparent soundstage vs. stock P3 + psu. I went with the Sumiko base cart & added the Wellfleet "oyster" cart upgrade (the Amethyst needs a completely diff headshell) and the psu upgrade. End goal is to move into MC and take full advantage of the xlr balanced out.

Cool new turntable, Arnaldo! Sorry you had the various hiccups but looks like you picked a good retailer to purchase from based on the after-sale assistance you got. I haven't had a Rega table but love that they take a different approach to their 'vibration measuring machine' (I think that's what Rega calls it). Minimalism and rigidity rather than weight/mass to keep resonance (?) to a minimum. I like when manufacturers think outside the box. Bottom line: I'm glad you're happy with your new gear, 'cuz that's the bottom line. I hope it serves you well for ages. Cheers, Tom

Hi Arnaldo👋🏻, Congratulations on the new Rega P6. I have the same turntable. I lucked out and have never had the issues you are speaking of but I do know others have had the buzzing issue. I believe George Borden mentioned his has this issue. His is a P3 however. From what I gather this is definitely a hang up with Regas philosophy. There are many parts of the Rega philosophy I agree with but after having been a Rega guy for many years I have concluded that I get the idea that sometimes the minimalist approach is taken a bit to the extreme. IMO not having a grounding wire is one of those cases. There are reasons why Rega does this but honestly I can’t even recall the technical reasons as to why. Whatever the reason, the buzz would seem to me to be enough of an issue that not having a grounding wire due to supporting whatever other reasons for sound improvement would be a diminishing return type situation. Its awesome they were helpful and came up with a solution but if they are going to have the philosophy of “no ground wire” and then suggest “Yeah try a ground wire” then that is a bit contradictory lol. Here is an idea Rega: How about just realizing that you have hit a proven wall with the grounding issue and put a grounding wire on the turntable instead of placing the task and trouble on your customer? Sorry should have had a rant warning there :0 Anyway, I am happy for you and that you are experiencing a further step in sound quality improvement and ultimately enjoying your new table! Thanks for the video! I am sure it is helpful to others to have this information.
@fidelios_frequency
@fidelios_frequency Месяц назад
Hi John! I didn’t know you had the same turntable. I agree with your rant but if the issues with the buzzing are isolated then it could be due to other factors in the mix. I’ve heard about issues with the hum but it was mostly due to the proximity of the PSU to the table. But you’re right if the buzzing and hum are easily solved with a grounding wire, then why don’t they just put a damn ground wire in there! What I don’t understand is how they ship dust covers without a protective film! Especially if damaged ones are so common that they already have a form on their website to submit for a replacement. Question for you: do you hear a low hum when the tonearm gets close to the spindle? I would hear it on my Project and still hear it with the P6. I’m wondering if my Shure cart is the culprit. 🤔

Nice to share your video with us but I’m not sure if I would have made it. I’m from the Netherlands and am a fan of Rega products for more than 20 years. The problems you mention should not occur but like in normal cases a Rega dealer checks the stuff before delivery to a customer. In this case to online service of the seller was good but did he didn’t preventively check and set up the turntable for you. Every production plant has its problems and imagine if for all these problems people would have made video’s . 😄 I also bought a P6 recently and I am impressed with the sound quality. You really don’t have to spend 25k for a good turntable but ofcourse you can! Ps I bought it with an Ania cartridge and can recommend it to (almost) everybody! 😄

Hi Mark! I made the video so that my experience could be useful to someone else. It was not to discouraged anyone from buying a Rega otherwise I wouldn’t have concluded the video saying I was happy with my purchase and enjoyed listening to music on my new P6. I don’t think the retailer has any fault since all they did was ship the box. It is Rega’s fault not knowing how to properly package the dust cover to prevent damage. Rega should have also calibrated the cueing lever at the factory. Luckily both of those issues were easily resolved. Thanks for watching! Take care. ✌🏻

@@fidelios_frequency a little. I suggest you do what I did. Since the speed on the Neo PSU is set at the factory with the supplied belt. Go with that one for at least two years or when you are ready to change the cart. I had my cart professionally installed. Had the Rega Exact for two years then moved up to the Ania Pro. Tech had one of those "lazers" that shot around the room. With the standard now two year old belt he said my speed was "just about perfect. Right where it should be". With the new Reference Belt he said "even better". But yeah. Don't put any powder on the belt. Just give the platter a spin to start (it will also extend the life of the belt) then hit the "start" button. I assure you the squeak will go away in about three weeks.

i have the same TT Arnaldo, I’ve had it for about 4 years now. I wouldn’t personally put powder in the belt, it only happens on startup and you don’t even think about it after. a while. it often times doesn’t even happen either. regarding the ticking when your dust cover is down, does your cart require a spacer? mine does and i noticed that just with a 2mm spacer, the dust cover sits on the counter weight when it’s down, just barely, but enough to mess with playback! such poor design! making the dust cover like half an inch taller would eliminate that issue when you have to use a spacer. i’ve heard g borden talk about the buzz, and others. he mentioned it only happens with rega carts, but you have a shure so hmmm. i have a hana and have never experienced a hum! but glad you figured it out and also good to know how to address this.

The REGA P6 is a good looking turntable, however it's not without its problems. It sounds like you had your fair share of them. Turntables $500.00 and up in themselves don't really have that much impact on sound unless something is wrong with them such as hum, mechanical, or motor noise. Then they do have an impact, all negative. Your cartridge is nearly 98% of your sound, maybe more. Then you must have it aligned as near perfect as you can get it, it's always a compromise. The one good thing about a REGA is its three point cartridge mounting system, for of course their cartridges, and you are not utilizing that. Anyway I like your honesty, and I subscribed. I do think you would have done much better with a Clearaudio/Marantz turntable probably the same cost, and would have much fewer problems, such as no problems. I've had mine for over seven years with no problems at all.

Have you ever listened to a Shure V15VMR? Maybe you don’t know, but Bernie Grundman has it mounted as a playback cart on his cutting lathe. Kevin Gray has it on his home system. Maybe you should educate yourself before you crack jokes.

I would hardly call these upgrades. I would call them setup and maintenance procedures. Rega sells tonearm shims because their carts are typically 3mm shorter in height than other brands. That is why Ortofon came out with a Rega sized MM cartridge. Of course a belt will slip on startup as it is not direct gear driven. Give the platter a nudge before hitting the power button or your belt will stretch or pull off the subplatter. Regular oiling of the bearing is necessary for any turntable even ones that have been sitting in storage or on a dealer's shelf. My daughter figured this out on her own when I gave her my old P25. The ground issue affects all types of electronics of differing ground potentials when items are a mix. Now we have people thinking that these tables are troublesome like people who don't read owner's manuals and complain about their purchase.

When I said "upgrade" I meant from my previous turntable. I thought it was pretty clear from the video. Maybe I can reach out to your daughter next time I need gear troubleshooting. BTW, my previous Pro-ject was belt drive and I never heard squeak or ticking. Never had to "oil" the bearings. I'm just sharing my experience.

At least my daughter knows that experience without understanding is useless. At least my daughter knows that the advantages of a belt drive turntable are defeated if the belt is stiff enough not to slip. Rega P8 and P10 have two belts. The Niaia has three belts. More money solves more problems. You are paying for a good arm and speed control at a price point. If you buy a turntable without adjustable VTA then you have to make adjustments when installing a non Rega cartridge. You can't just install a cartridge and hope that it works. There are other makes for that. Lubrication is self-explanatory. I do not consider Rega to be the best turntable out there. It is a collection of compromises to sell at a certain price. It has the bones to be a good turntable. If your Project did not exhibit these issues then why did you replace it? Fini.

I had a Rega P6 it was the worst sounding thing I ever owned. I added a mofi cart that saved it and made it listenable and a 2mm plate to level it. The stock MM cart was horrible horrible. I moved on since my midfi journey. You will get to better gear eventually. It is a journey not a destination. Look at Kuzma next.

@@fidelios_frequency SL1200ot 1210 M3D , you can turn off the pitch controll, second han is very affordable. If You find one need some service check , to recalibrate. I belive the Shure V 15 good for the arm. Amazing turtable, don’t do any tunning. Only find original mk2 rubbel slipmat, it,s bettery M3D rubberslipmat is slimmer. Easy VTA settings.
