They were too big to carry around with you - that is, assuming they weren't physically attached to the car. And the batteries lasted about twenty minutes.
As a lifelong Harry Potter fan, the first film I "rode in" the 2002-2004 roller coaster (with the then-new REG logo) was The Chamber Of Secrets at Regal Oceanside on 11/15/2002. By coincidence, the final two-part HP7 films, The Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 were the first 2 films I "took a ride in" the more spectacular revived roller coaster (same 2002 audio) in front of them at the now-defunct UA Cerritos (and in awesome Sony 4K), which brought me full circle and as a nod to my first HP film I saw at a theater 9 years ago as well as being the final HP films I would ever see. In fact, I saw movies with Harry, Ron, and Hermione in all three of the REG brands: Regal, Edwards, and UA. What memories
God I loved this thing.... always leaning over to my friends saying "here it comes" before the last popcorn kernel popped and screaming obnoxiously when it did. Good fuckin times
I always loved those movie theater openings where they talk about theater etiquette and advertise their snacks and drinks. This roller coaster ride was a sweet memory of my past. :)
God I miiss this it was always my favorite as a kid I use to pretend I was riding a coaster and lean back and forth, right and left holding on to the arm rests then raise my arms when going down. LOL oh memories
Born in 1988, totally remember this back in the 90's. I remember seeing this before movies like ''The Nightare Before Christmas" and "The Lion King". To us, this wasn't just some intro. It was the roller coaster that transported us into the story of our film, regardless of what story that was. Your imagination could exceed beyond the mere fact you were watching a movie in a theater auditorium.
I saw "The Town" two nights ago and the moment I heard the "Welcome to Regal Cinemas" my nostalgic heart did a back-flip. God Bless whoever made this come back to the cinema!
Man, I came across this video almost by accident and it straight up just made me cry because I miss the movies so god damn much. What a shit year it’s been.
As of Today (May 14, 2013), the Roller Coaster is still going strong! Went there to see Iron Man 3, and sure enough both it and the 'Go Big or Go Home' ad were both playing. Granted, it was in an unusual order, as follows: 1. Sprint "Silence Your Cell Phone" Policy 2. Go Big or Go Home 3. "Epic"-themed "Be quiet during the movie" policy 4. The Roller Coaster (FTW) 5. Movie Trailers Thankfully the "Go Big or Go Home" crap is just a commercial, rather than a feature presentation trailer.
I remember seeing this for the first time before “Finding Nemo.” I was kinda thrilled how thrilling this ride was on-screen. One other thing I have not seen in ages and years is “The 2wenty,” a Regal-exclusive pre-show introduced around February 2003 as the birth of digital cinema advertising that moviegoers hated at first due to the unnecessary loudness of the program, which was why the 35mm still ad slides became extinct for good. Of course this was before FirstLook and then Noovie. I wish anybody has footage of The 2wenty because I feel like I missed out a lot on that old pre-show due to being on time in the past, though the Seinfeld behind-the-scenes featurette (as part of promoting the seasons only on DVD) I believe, is pretty much the only one I can remember from The 2wenty before “The Polar Express,” and also the Skittles Smoothie Mix commercial (sheep boys) before the first Madagascar film
Then after this the 20th Century Fox Logo theme with Lucasfilm logo...and then...Star Wars. Say what you want about the Phantom Menace, the nostalgia and excitement from that movie still brings back good memories as a 9 year old.
Does anyone remember another theater's intro like this that showed CG animation like this video, but it showed molten metal being poured into a mold and pressed, and at the end, the metal press retracts to reveal the theater's golden logo. I think it was Cobb Theaters, but I can't find any trace of it. I remember another intro had this robot/mechanical arm holding a concession tray with popcorn and a soda on it across the top of the screen. It might have been from the same intro that I described above. Its driving me crazy. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Both of these things would have been from the 90's.
Such a _pang_ of nostalgia for this. Our Regal Cinema, Huntington Valley, Pennsylvania, became a fitness place over a decade ago but seeing this now it feels like I was at the movies only yesterday. I don't know what compelled me to search 'regal cinema coaster' this morning out of the blue but here I am.
My favorite, for the record, is the early-'90s version but that's just me. When I found this I was stunned at how it perfectly characterized an era for me. Still thinking of it twenty minutes later.
Took me forever but I finally won the argument with my entire family that the doors at the very end switch sides and is an error. My family loved arguing, but it took a lot to get anyone to admit when they were wrong. I'm not really sure how many movies it took but they finally succumbed.
jesus what are we even doing here we cant get enough of this at the movie theatre we really all are taking it out of our personal time and looking up the REGAL CINEMAS PRE SHOW THING i didnt even know thats what it was called apparently this is a pre show...never knew that okay i am just going to go cry myself to sleep tonight because i have to live with the fact i actually spent time out of my life on this page on the internet
Supposedly, some theaters are replacing it with /watch?v=ge-x4mPuZ_4 . Which is a load of bullshit if you ask me, that one took no creativity and is more like an advertisement than an adventure like this. Thankfully my theater plays both. Although he/she might have meant that they play the newer version of this, which isn't quite as memorable. (yeah, 3 weeks later and i'm still here. there's no hope for me.)
Listen, nostalgia is going to lead to anyone's decision on which one was better. I grew up going to Regal and seeing this, so naturally I'll like this better. If I lived near a Consolidated theater, I'd probably like that better. It's not like you can go into our childhoods and change which one we went to, so trying to get us to like the Consolidated one better is pointless. Nobody's going to change their opinion because of you, so let's just end this pointless debate right now.
anyone know the commercial to turn your phones on silent that plays on regal theaters that impersonates high school musical and star wars? i want to know what the song is called they r dancing to that says something about "after our first kiss". it's new. and i so miss this!
They have been doing this at our movie theater ever since it opened 14 years ago. It's slightly changed over the years. I thought ours was the only one who used it, I guess not. =P
They closed down our united artists in my town a few years ago since a big cinemark opened at the mall, ( there was one there but they closed it to make room for united artists) They were two movie theatres that were amazing but one is now a dollar theatre which i need to go check out and see how it is now! But this before the movies always got me excited no matter how much i didnt like the film and its in that special place in my heart! :') Never will CINEMARK replace this!
I live in Vegas and they have $5 Value on certain days. The problem is when the movie is in 3D , they charge additional $4 for the glasses....r u kidding? This brings the price costing more than 2D. I wish 3D movies go away.
@thegeekymoviebuff She's right!!! It is back I work for Regal as well!! :D i used to love seeing this when i saw movies as a kid!! the new one has regals updated candy now too like sourpatch kids and stuff :D
Meh. I don't really like it. When Consolidated Theaters built the movie theater down where I live, they had some badass intros. Then Regal rolled onto the scene and gave me this mess. :/
@crazyformusic23 Haha I love that one! Pretty sure it's not a real song, though, and it's just something they made up for the preview to make fun of HSM.
I doubt that's the case. I believe the whole "Go Big or Go Home" crap is just an advertisement. My theater also plays both, and I don't think it will become the "new" policy trailer as it doesn't even go over the rules of the theater. Plus, the roller coaster is a cult-classic among movie goers (it is to me), so I doubt Regal would break people's hearts by getting rid of it.
