True, though 90%+ of people do it from the mobile app, hence why it is a convenience fee. So the vast majority will still be charged for it. But if you are willing to put in the work, then yes, though then it starts to feel closer to moviepass or sinemia where you had to game the system to get the best deal.

A family plan for like $49.99 a month 2 adults and two kids, with extra $5 charge for 3rd person or 3rd child would be perfect. Same plan of 3 movies a week, 12 a month. Get on it AMC... you'll have more people go to the movies and u know them saving $ that'll spend more on concessions with their visits. Win-win for everyone if they do this.
@SystemsAlliance

It would be a good plan, but only Sinemia has done one so far, and they crashed and burned, though not because of that. I'm wondering if there is enough data out there for AMC and Regal etc. to see what they would need to offer and what they would need to price it at to make sense for them to sell and for consumers to buy.

I currently have AMC A-List and love it. There are more Regals in my area, though, so that appeals. However, when I look at the theater I normally would go to - with reserved, reclining seats - it says on the Regal Unlimited website that there is "Stadium Seating". So...no reserved seats? Am I reading that correctly? What's that about?
@SystemsAlliance
@SystemsAlliance 4 года назад
Some Regals do not have assigned seating. Usually the older ones. So basically... you'd have to get there really early to get the seats you want.
@brianfox3275
@brianfox3275 4 года назад
But this theater DOES have reserved seats (normally). We’ve gone there for years, until I got A-List. So, why the “stadium seating”? Is that the premium seating mentioned on their website? Do you need to pay an extra fee - or buy a higher tier - for reserved seats?
@SystemsAlliance
@SystemsAlliance 4 года назад
@@brianfox3275 From what I read you don't pay more for reserved seating, only for premium formats like IMAX, 3D, etc. And also for certain theaters in more expensive cities. But if they have reserved seating, you should be able to do it. I wonder if for some theaters they did away with it once the app came out.

I’ve been in AMC stubs member for about six months now I enjoyed the program a lot the only issue for me is that the AMC that I go to is 20 to 30 minutes away from my house. So I switched over to regal today even though I’m locked in for a year commitment regal is the closest theater maybe about 10 minutes. I wear glasses so the 3-D IMAX all the extra stuff didn’t really matter to me as long as I was seeing the film so I’ll be fine with just seem 2d films The only reason I would’ve stuck with AMC is if it was closer to my house but I just been waiting for the regal plan I was worried when I heard that there might have to be an upfront fee of the whole year because for me that’s a little too much at one time for this but since they changed it to monthly it was right up my alley hopefully things will remain fine with this program otherwise I’ll go back to AMC down the line

@toonblastsart8655 4 года назад
@@spaidakula again AMC is possibly the best MoviePass like service on the market right now I'm not denying that but personally for me there are two reasons why I switched to Regal Personally one is that it takes me around 20 to 30 minutes to drive to a Amc theater the amount of gas/ money and extra time doesn't make sense especially when regal is 7-10 min away for me + 2 outside of actually viewing the movies I wasn't using benefits like the 3D because of my eyesight to begin with unless a person I was with wanted to see it in 3D Even in the long run with the surcharges if I was to upgrade my ticket the amount that I be spending on that versus the wear and tear on my car and time will save me in the long run going with Regal over AMC for me personally Again AMC works better for you because you're closer to the theater but it just doesn't make sense for me financially when there's a Regal right down the road

GREAT, informative article. Thank you for sharing this. I just received an e-mail from Regal (I'm a member & receive e-mails regularly.) re their new plan. I don't recall there being ANY mention of surcharges in the material. Thus, thanks to you, it's considerably more transparent. Regal would be my only choice--the complex I visit regularly is an exemplary member of the chain--but I ultimately, don't need a plan. I have one of my own! Movie gift cards. My family gifts me those rather than giving me "things." I go to the movies fairly regularly and get to choose whatever format I desire. I'm not a big fan of current 3-D as I don't believe it's done properly. I enjoy non-3D IIMAX movies and RPX ditto. Depends on the movie and the time of showing. The plan MIGHT work for some; time will tell. Again, well-done!

I believe I said that in the video, but the $3 if you have the lower tier only applies if you are going to one of the more expensive ones. True, that's why I'm surprised they didn't copy AMC's more since while unlimited sounds good, only a tiny tiny fraction of users could ever take advantage of it. If people weren't lazy they could just get tickets at a kiosk or box office at Regal which they won't get charged 50 cents for standard 2D movies. You can have 3 advanced tickets in the app and still get a tickets at the box office or kiosk.

They could, but then again if that were the case, companies like Fandango wouldn't even exist. I don't think there would be much of an issue if Regal came out with their plan first. The problem is that AMC came first and doesn't charge fees for something that costs the company nothing.

@@SystemsAlliance I am not talking about any other movie ticket app, I am just talking about Regal Unlimited. AMC also doesn't let you watch as many stabdard 2D movies as you can like Regal does, so the 50 fee (and surcharges) is a compromise. You are going to the movie anyway, so unless it is opening night for a super popular movie then it is rare you won't get a seat. If Regal was 3 movies a week and charged 50 cents per ticket via the app, then I could see why people would complain.

I don’t know anyone that actually prefers 3D movies. This isn’t a detriment in my opinion. There’s no regal imax near me so also no problems there. There’s no amc within an hour of me so my choice is pretty easy.

At least now you can get a deal! Yeah I personally hate 3D though.

Excellent video showing the new Regal plan and comparing it to other offerings. I wish Regal would have just done a similar plan to AMC Stubs A-list. Here in the Los Angeles area, we are relegated to the highest plan, $23.50/month. I would love to have seen something like 2 movies/wk, any movie including IMAX/3D for something like 18-21/month. No annual commitment. Don't charge people .50 cents to buy tickets on the App. This whole extra fees thing smells of Sinemia. I hate that this is what Regal came up with. I know why they are doing it this way, they can make more money by locking people in for 1 year. You can guarantee that they will increase these fees like Sinemia did. I'm afraid that AMC and others will follow and add App usage fee's once they see the potential for extra cash.

I don't like the fees for using the app either. 100% unnecessary and made me think the same thing.... Sinemia. I would hope AMC realizes how much people hate it and how much ill will it would cause towards their own product... and not do it.

The theater owners don't really lose anything by having unlimited movies on their plan because 80-90% of box office receipts go to the movie studios while the corporation that owns the theater gets all their revenue from concessions.
@SystemsAlliance
@SystemsAlliance 4 года назад
The average is only 55% of revenue goes to studios. Disney has a special deal in the USA where they get 60%. Overseas, especially with China, it might be only 33%. But on average, 45% goes to the theaters themselves. As far as their profit goes though, much of it comes from the concessions, so you are right in that it only helps them to offer these plans so they can make more sales on a higher margin product there, even if they give 10-20% off of it. Probably why MoviePass and Sinemia couldn't make the math work... no concession revenue.

*** TWO Very important update'sfor your video*** If you go to the theater to get your ticket via the mobile app you are NOT charged the surcharge! The .55 cent surcharge is for reserving the ticket on the app. But if the theater you are going to does not have reserve seating anyway then its worth it to just save the .55 and get the tix at the counter. 2nd. If you read the fine print, i did, there is a 1 year obligation when u sign up meaning if you decided to cancel you will STILL be charged for the remainder of the year! Details matter!!! Hope this helps everyone. Me and my wife got the reg pass and so far it's pretty good.

Good info. Though 90%+ will use the app because they don't want to wait at the theater. It's a fee that costs them nothing as AMC has proven so it is a bit bothersome, but the year obligation isn't so bad unless there is an emergency and you need to cancel (but as you said, won't be able to, might as well keep it since they'll keep taking your money). I wonder if you cancel your card how they would charge you.
@moedollars7050
@moedollars7050 4 года назад
@@SystemsAlliance they have certain criteria for you to cancel, like moving out of the country, etc. As for the fee i agree for a newer movie it might be a pain to wait for a ticket to save a few cents but lucky for me our theater is kind of older and doesn't really get crowded.

FYI, AMC A-List price varies based on where you live. Here in California, it's $23.95/month, which is actually a little more expensive than Regal Unlimited All Access. AMC A-List allows you to see an out of state movie (if you are on a lesser rate plan) up to three times per year. Also, not many people are talking about the 10% concessions discount which is also a nice perk with the Regal plan.

I used to walk to Regal in DTLA after work to see movies for a long time (my credit I had with Regal was almost 400,000) until I signed up with AMC A List from January 2019. I'm so happy with AMC A List, but the only thing I don't like is that there's no AMC in DTLA, so I have to deal with traffic after work to drive to the AMC near my home. I wanted to switch to Regal, but none of the Regal's plans is good, and they're very slow in the game, so I will continue with AMC A List. I'm sorry Regal.

The one year commitment and surcharges are a non-starter. I bet they're counting on people not reading the fine print before they sign-up. I'll stick with AMC A-List
@SystemsAlliance

I think the surcharges are the real issue. Esp for anything but 2D. The year commitment I understand as many businesses do that. Then again most would refund you the difference.
