There are 3 main benefits to RU-vid Premium. You can watch unlimited content with no ads, you can continue to listen to videos in the background while your phone is locked or in another app, and you can download videos to watch offline. These three amazing benefits also combine with access to RU-vid Music which is great if you aren't already locked into the Spotify or Apple Music ecosystem like me.
Now that you know why people subscribe to RU-vid Premium, let's talk about how to avoid paying more than you have to. Overpayment comes down to the "Apple Tax", a 30% fee that Apple charges app developers for payments processed through their app store. To avoid this fee, you should sign up through a computer (or an Android phone). This video walks through the steps to make the change and tells my story as a long time subscriber and recent convert from the $15.99 App Store subscription to the $11.99 subscription directly with Google.

I've been on RU-vid premium since launch so I'm grandfathered in at $8.99 since I continued it from Google music. Been one of the services I will never end. I use the background play for listening to things in the car when I run errands or I can listen to audio on phone without killing my screen. I am always amazed whenever I see people dealing with ads on RU-vid, I totally forget often that others have ads on their services.

I've had the RU-vid Premium account since 2014 when I decided to leave Pandora behind. I uploaded about 5K songs onto RU-vid Music from my home computer and then found an infinite amount of music related to my library in the years since then. Being able to build specific endless playlists and stream podcasts has also been great. It's probably the best thing I spend money on. Probably over 10,000 hours of ad-free videos in the past decade has been worth every penny.

Yeah, the ads have been insane. Like even if I wanted to skip to another part, I immediately get hit by ads. I feel like I spend more time watching the ads than actually getting to actually consume the content. I know they're just doing this because they want to try to force people to subscribe rather than having RU-vid be a free platform. But when I checked out how expensive it is, my jaw dropped because it's considerably more than most streaming services for a single user. Thank you so putting out this video. I don't know yet if I'm going to pay the $15 or just stomach the constant ads or not

It was a better deal when it was Google Music. Google Music was a good platform, and they gutted everything that made it good with RU-vid Music. RU-vid Music is really only better if you watch music videos. Otherwise, RU-vid Music is the worst service for managing playlists, and the radio algorithm is bad.

Oh my gosh! I stumbled across this video while researching something else about my subscription. I always thought it was strange that my RU-vid Premium was billed through Apple, but got used to it. I've been a Premium member nearly four years now! I really appreciate this video and will be changing my billing immediately.

I have to share an addendum. Because I ended up purchasing RU-vid premium for the year based on these ideas. And what happened was I got charged, even ended up with a receipt, but it didn’t show which of my two accounts it went to. And yet neither one of them would run premium. Neither one of them showed premium. Instead, I had eight solid weeks of Hekate heck trying to get bank to talk to Credit card company to talk to RU-vid and vice versa. Because RU-vid is now deleted anyway for you to contact them. You end up in a loop just telling you to go back to the previous page to get help but if you click on the health page, it takes you to another page which tells you to go back to the health page. Aren’-t you annoyed? And you’ve only been reading this for 30 seconds as opposed to trying to do this on your own for eight weeks. In the end, I ended up getting a refund and absolutely no help from RU-vid. Am I going to try and buy premium again? Probably not. Hope this helps somebody out there and if you have had the same problem as me please comment because I would really like to help with other people that went through the same thing.

@@ravinschannel hmmmm I don’t think so? I think at that point, there is something called a “family subscription plan” iirc? I could be totally wrong, as I’m not totally sure, that’s a good question. But I don’t think you can use multiple emails for one premium subscription. I believe it locks to one email, but I do believe there is a “family plan” of sorts… you can also try it for I think 3 months for free? That’s what it was for me when I tried it, that might be gone now but you can do at least a month free and test it out!

I've always hated ads but I also love being able to download and play on my own terms and especially at night when I don't want the Wi-Fi on. That makes it worth it to me although I do miss when they actually had premium content which seems to be non-existent now.

Recently upgraded to family so my wife could use it also as she is now watching a lot more RU-vid than she had in past years.

I watch RU-vid more than any other streaming service. By alot. No ads is important and so is the closed viewing/audio experience as well as the download feature. But supporting the platform I love and making my view worth more to my favorite creators makes it a no brained. Don’t tell RU-vid but I would pay double if I had to.

I’ve been a member since Feb 21,2022 and I have 1,440hrs of ad free videos, 520hrs of background play, 660hrs of RU-vid music, and 35 videos watched offline. I’ve unfortunately been hit with the Apple tax for close to 2 years now and hopefully can save a little bit going forward. Edit- I’m a student now also and see the option for an even bigger reduction of what I was paying. Kicking myself for not looking into this further.

It’s not stinking greedy - they are providing a service, the App Store and a quick easy way to pay for and monitor subscriptions. They can’t do that for feee. Actually the whole world of apps is their invention. They can’t do that for free. That said I may look into re-subscribing to RU-vid premium through Google as this fellow recommends but I won’t be doing so spitting and cursing at so-called Apple greed.

I saved $5/mo for 2 full years on my RU-vid Premium subscription by qualifying as a student ($6.99/mo) before I finally had to start paying $11.99/mo because I was no longer eligible for the student discount. I’m surprised you didn’t mention this perk for students of accredited universities. Now, I’m at 9,290 watched hrs in 3 years of paid membership.

I listen to videos a lot while I'm doing housework, or when I'm donating plasma, I'm around 7600 in 26 months. But I also listen to some videos falling asleep and watch/listen to every single video at 2x speed. I feel like I'm wasting time watching at 1x speed. Once I figured that out (speed control) I haven't gone back, and RU-vid is what I watch 98% of the time. Like I'll have sports on the TV, and one earbud in, and listen or watch videos during the game. And my tv is linked with this account, so any videos my husband watches on TV counts as my hours.

Ok, so I have over 3,000 hours in 18 months, but I use it for background noise and to sleep to. Thank you so much for this hack. I finally got around to changing my sub when it went to $18.99 on the iPhone. It's $13.99 still for me via the web so that's a big win in my book. Thanks for the step by step on this. It was easy to do - only warning is to wait around 15-20 minutes between cancelling on the iPhone and signing up on the web as it takes a little time for the cancellation to flow through.

UPDATE: I normally use Firefox for web browsing, so when I had the aforementioned trouble subscribing to RU-vid Premium directly, I decided to try it in Safari. I logged out of my RU-vid account and logged back in via Safari, and the Premium option for $11.99 (+ tax) came up, and I was able to subscribe again successfully with RU-vid Premium DIRECTLY. One important thing to remember about RU-vid premium directly supports the creators you like and watch by automatically giving every video you watch the full ad money they would get normally even if you don't watch the whole video. So it does support the creators more!

Thanks Cameron, FYI. Google won't honor what you already paid Apple. I cancelled through Apple on my iPhone. When pulling up my account on my PC it said it expires in 15 days (Oct 10th) as expected. Good I thought, Google knows that so I can sign-up now and I won't lose the 15 days I already paid for. No such luck, after providing my credit card and submitting - my CC was immediately charged and Google said it will renew in 30 days (Oct 26).

I agree. Subscribing to premium is a must if you care about watching youtube regularly. Like with so many things they just have no sense of what is reasonable with ads. "More is better" is not always true and in many cases it is not. No, jamming as many ads as you can down people's throat is not better than if you didn't. Marketers are stupid anyway. Offending people is not the way to gain their positive approval of you.

I think creators get a bigger cut from premium views as well. As for the complaints about creator sponsor ads, fair enough. But it is the main way they make money. I'm sure most creators would rather not have them. Adsense doesn't pay very well at all, and at least you can skip the creators ads at will with no timer delay, etc. And honestly some of the creator ads can be legitimately entertaining.

I’ve used the family plan of Premium for years and love it and can’t imagine watching any other way! When I saw my friends YT with ads it took me out of the experience. It’s for sure worth it! Also, with the Family Plan you can invite up to 5 people and share the cost if you want.

You’re missing the perks here. I’m a day 1 RU-vid premium subscriber through the App Store. I pay 6 USD for RU-vid premium & music (family). Since I subbed through Apple and never cancelled my subscription, prices NEVER rise. I’m fully protected from price hikes, so I’d say if you have the on-launch RU-vid premium price, do not change your payment method or else you WILL pay more.

Actually even with RU-vid Premium you will be exposed to ads. Many RU-vid content creators are now embedding ad's in their videos. The ad's can be skipped of course, but it is still a pain. I feel these embedded ad's should not be allowed. If I pay for premium, I do not want to see ANY ads.

install the sponsorblock extension. It's a crowdsourced extension that allows people to mark where sponsored ads are in a video and then automatically skips them for you. If you see the ad first before it's reported, you can mark where the sponsored ad is for everyone else using the extension.

I pay 14 - actually 13.99, but so tired of that stupid .99. You don't always want to watch all of a video, but you still have to deal with ads every time you do. Since I don't watch much else, it's a great deal compared to other streaming services. I appreciate you reminding me of the music. I would never even consider getting it at the current rates. The only thing I would use it for is to not see ads. No other benefit would be of any use to me. I don’t need to download anything. I don’t need to watch/listen the way you do with your podcasts and I don’t need the music. They are charging as much per month as the major streaming services, but they don’t have the same costs. All the creators are providing the content, and Google simply hosts it. For all the other streaming services, they provide the content and they still have to host it. So Google is just raking in money for letting things sit on their servers for the most part, that might be worth $3.99 a month but not the ridiculous amount they want. Actually, RU-vid premium should be a free benefit for RU-vid TV subscribers.

Have been a Premium member for twelve months and I really love it. I connect to RU-vid Music every night to fall asleep to so that's a great bonus for me. Also, being able to play RU-vid videos even when the phone is locked and in my pocket is fantastic. Not an iPhone user so the Apple Tax is not a problem I have to worry about.

YT Premium is my go to subscription. If I could only have one, this would be it. People pay £10 a month for Spotify alone, but with YT Premium you get the benefits of a standalone music streaming service along with add free RU-vid for just another £2 a month.

WoW! I was subscribed to YT for a year through Apple and canceled it last month when they raised the rate another $3/month to $18.99. Today I saw this video. I followed your recommendation and resubscribed for a year at $11.67/month. That's more than $4 less per month. The past month w/ads has been frustrating, though not worth the hike in my opinion. I got a 3 month trial few months back and I noticed depending on where I would be signing up for premium it was about $1-2 difference. One place was on the phone app and I can't remember where the other was, maybe on a browser or the App Store under subscriptions. I found that pretty odd. What you're talking bout is so much more of a discount though. $11.99 is definitely a better price. Having said that, the only part of premium I care about is no ads. I hate ads. I just don't $11.99 a month hate them. Think the most I'd pay for that would be like $5 but even then I'd prolly not go for it. Ads are terrible. I had a 15 unskippable one couple months back. I had one shippable after 15 seconds but the AD ITSELF was literally over 3 hours!! Which is stupid. If I'm watching while doing dishes I don't want to have to stop and dry my hands off every few mins to skip a 3 hour long ridiculous ad. Last night had an hour long one show up.

I've had youtube red/premium for around 10 years or something. I've had both the 1 user and multiple user premium accounts. It's definitely worth it and makes the experience much more pleasant. RU-vid music also makes it worth it. If you split the cost with other people, it's a no brainer. I have high usage with this platform and it's music service. Overall I think it's a high value service. Highly recommended

Sue me. Besides all that, people need to do research themselves and rely on their own judgements, especially with something so trivial and miniscule as what we're bickering about. So in summary, I stand by what I said and will further modify it for increased accuracy so no one else whines about it. Keep in mind I specifically said "10 years or something", which means approximately or roughly. So yes it is close. If you actually wanted to help out and be useful, you would have done a 10sec google search for that information I just found and listed it right here for others to benefit from, but you didn't. We aren't talking hard facts here on a political show, so let's all calm down a bit and slow our roles, pump those brakes. Kthx

@@zeeMuniStacksBundles I think an especially important detail with the Family plan is that it's an actual plan meant to be shared; you get to invite all 5 of the other accounts so people just use what they use. I think this is the same as something like Spotify Family, but it is importantly different from how tv streaming services handle Premium accounts which is what people share--where there's just one account with multiple profiles. It's actually kinda insane how it runs on the same model as Spotify costing about the same when it has a ton of benefit aside from RU-vid Music, which I already prefer on its own compared to Spotify.

November 22 the price goes up to 29.99 for us. We canceled because of all the different companies that increased the price RU-vid went up by a full 7$. It was far cheaper to go to Hulu, Disney and Espn. I suggest you cancel RU-vid and get Hulu bundle instead.

Dude, I’ve been paying for RU-vid happily for a year, the biggest thing is, I can save around 400 videos inside my phone, then, when I fly to or from Japan, I’ve got tons of videos to watch inside the plane. That’s such a killer app for me.

As someone who never uses apple... the apple tax really irritates me. I've been a yt family plan subscriber for a lonnng time. I used to use yt music, but I had to go on Spotify for a particular playlist and it's definitely superior in regards to music.

I have the family premium (6 people). Also for fun our hours collectively are 7690 😮 worth the money as we all use it - alot!

I was a premium user for 27 months. I just recently dropped the subscription and it is beyond ridiculous. How many ads are now in videos compared to when I first started the service. I’m torn because the price is ridiculous just to remove ads because I don’t use the music, part of the subscription and I don’t care about the RU-vid premium TV shows. It’s really an awful decision. I have to make either I stop using RU-vid or I pay close to a Netflix level subscription cost.

First, thank you so much for making this video and sharing your knowledge. I know this video is a year old and RU-vid has increased their price since April 2023. Your method still works and knocks off $2 off the individual plan, but for Family Plan it is still locked at $22.99 (use to be $14.99 for me before April 2023, as I was grandfathered in from the original promotional offering).

I’m wanting to subscribe to RU-vid premium because I listen to audiobooks constantly when I’m home and even outside on the road and the ads are starting to drive me nuts. I listen to an audiobook to go to sleep at night but when I’m trying to start to go to sleep I have to keep touching my phone to get rid of the ad to continue to listen to my book. my only problem right now is I don’t have a computer and I’m not able to leave the house to get on one at the library. Not sure if I’ll do the expensive option for a month or two until I can have more flexibility.

I used to be able to go to for example a bass guitar cover, and to learn more complicated songs, I could click on the settings icon and slow down the playback speed in 25% increments to learn the song correctly and build up to speed. Several months ago, suddenly if I try and do that, it's all garbled and annoying. I find it hard to believe all my devices suddenly developed a problem. I'm pretty certain they did something on their end where they throttled something back to where maybe you only have that option by paying more like having YT premium? If that's the case, which now I'm beginning to think so, that' pretty stingy for them to do so. idk

Cam, our family watches YT almost exclusively. We hate the ads with a passion. And of course, we are being played by the owners to buy a sub! I come from an era when the idea of paying for entertainment on TV was preposterous. And when we heard that Cable was coming without the ads being rammed down our collective throats, Cable seemed to be a good idea. Sure, you'd pay for a service, but then the programming was free. Now let me see, how long did that scenario last? Not very. Soon enough greed got the best of the cable moguls. And now we know the rest of the story. Or at least part of it. Amazon is just as bad about their services! We're paying for that one. And yet, they unbundle the privileges for the things they provide. But I want to thank you for explaining the benefits of a YT sub. Am seriously looking at it, as it's what we choose for most of our entertainment.

I block RU-vid ads on my devices, and proud to do so... especially since now most creators but additional ads in their vides. The only one that still gives me a problem is the Apple TV as I haven't found a solution yet. Google has gotten extremely greedy and their ads are insufferable, but I'm not going to be bullied into subscribing to Premium.

I use utube all the time. I’m 67 years young, widowed, disabled and housebound so don’t only do I watch TV all the time but I’m on a strict budget being on Social Security Disability. You were showing how to get the cheaper utube but you did it through a computer. I only have a iPhone. I have been trying to work on my budget so I can get utube without commercials. I am still using the vanced app, youtube managed to push trough adds trough that now and I actually dont mind that altough the ammount and lenght of adds are the same as on the normal youtube app too which are just waaaay too many. The reason why I am using vanced and will stay using it until its totally unusable is due to the app being awesome. The layout, setup and everything else around it is so much better then the basic youtube app. I wish youtube would have struck a deal with vanced, instead of giving it a cease and disist they could have chosen to work with them instead and even make the same ammount of revenue out of it.

Additional tip. If you’re able to subscribe through RU-vid in a different country, depending on which country, you’ll pay even less. Try a developing country or a country that isn’t that rich to find the cheapest prices. Don’t know if a VPN could get around this or not, or if you need a bank card in that country. You may have to adjust your Google account first if you’re not in that country.

Honest question: Why would you pay for Spotify when you get access to RU-vid music for free with a premium membership? I use RU-vid Music and it's awesome. It gives you suggestions for playlists, remembers your likes, etc. All the usual music platform features PLUS it has all music on it. There's no "Amazon exclusive" or "iTunes exclusive" nonsense. When an artist releases anything, they always make a video that goes on RU-vid and that music is in RU-vid Music. So... I'm honestly curious what the appeal is for Spotify since I don't have it and am wondering why you would pay more for that or not cancel it once you got RU-vid Premium.

Thank you for the subscription savings! In today's world of subscriptions everywhere, save where you can. I immediately implemented this. 3 yrs @ $4 savings = $144 that is a loss of almost one year's subscription. I don't mind paying for a subscription especially for the content and security. Was paying the same $15.99, glad I saw your video in time, just recently rate increase to $16.99 so $12.99 w/o Apple Tax
