Regency MX Excel 56" ceiling fan in Gold Dust, shown with 56MP blades, still all in the original packaging. I was debating using different blades this time, but I didn't really have anything else that suited the Gold Dust well at time of filming. Just this week I received a whole new variety of old stock Regency blades from Brian Hicks, who I originally got this fan from. Included was a set of Gold Dust blades, but when I filmed this we were still working on the deal with no specific timeline, so I couldn't wait on it. As mentioned in the original video, MX Excels have never been my favorite from Regency in any real capacity. I prefer earlier variants of the Marquis and Marquis-MX stylistically speaking, and those fans were also better in the performance department. This one mainly got me with the finish; I'll never pass up an opportunity to grab a rare or unusual finish of anything, but especially from Regency. My childhood love for Regency fans is still strong, I just like their stuff even if it's not the best-built or most powerful you could buy. They speak to my core love of design, with so many custom finishes and options over the years. And the blade quality is actually superb, some of the nicest veneer blades this industry has ever seen. I will say, this one doesn't do too bad with the 56" blades. It's not an over-the-top powerful fan to begin with, but it doesn't feel much more bogged down with larger blades. I actually love the low speed produced with them. Unfortunately the subdued sparkle of the finish doesn't really show on camera. Gold Dust sounds like an odd name since it kind of appears like a faux khaki color in most lights, but it's truly the most appropriate name. There's a light hint and also some heavier patches of literal "gold dust" everywhere on it. Such a neat finish, I love stuff like this.

For a sec I thought it was the subway finish until looking closer at it.

Never looked up stats on these. I’ve only ever seen them in Subways, usually with 27lbs of dust running on medium or low in reverse. (And 52” blades). I for some reason expected a faster high. Definitely is quiet. How’s the airflow?

I think they're fair performers. They're not the highest class of airflow by any means. Could've used better optimization on the technical side to get the best out of the motor. That's usually the problem with Regency, pretty nice fans and decent stuff put into them, they just didn't really do well putting it all together to make them achieve any kind of standout performance.
