New Sub to your channel. Full Time RVing for almost 2 years and what drew me to your channel (and others) was doing research on why my water heater tank sprung a leak only after a 2 years. Anyway, I want to make sure that after I get my new water heater, it dawned on me that I should invest into this contraption to help with calcium buildup and things.. Thanks for the detailed explanation. A few things that I'm going to do when I get my double onthego water softener. - As with all my scheduled maintenance items, I use painters tape and sharpie marker to put a date on the filters to help remind me when I've installed and regenerated the unit. Probably won't put on the jug since this will be outside and will fade after time. You get the idea. - From your pro-tip I think that I'll always use 3 salt containers to backfill. To me, this may alleviate having to do this process all over again after your completed it and test it just to find out that the strips still show brown. - Like you, I LOVE quick disconnects.. Makes it SO MUCH easier. You mentioned that you use Teflon Tape on the threads. Are those threads plastic or just your preference? - Just to note : For those of us that flush black tanks every week, make sure that you use a TOTAL different hose and process outside of the drinking water process. (NO BRAINER). - While you're flushing the onthego I think that I'll drain the entire RV water system as well while that 30 minute regenprocess is doing it's thing. This way, the water that's inside all the tanks are also flushed and clear/cleaned so when you hook up the newly regened bottle, you get fresh/clean water in your system too.

Thanks for another great video! We use a clear source triple element water filter and then a 16000 grain water softener before it goes into the rig. We then filter all water for consumption and cooking through an Alexapure Pro .02 micron filter. To regenerate the water softener I use a single $40 filter canister and dump the salt into it instead of the water softener. I think that using the canister insures that the brine solution is injected throughout the entire volume of the resin medium. We have the canister setup with a few valved y’s, 90’s, isolation valves and quick disconnects so that all I have to do is turn a few valves to back flush the softener and then return it to normal function. This all fits in my front storage bay. This may not be ideal or feasible for every one but it works great for us.

I noticed your bike and tow bar set. up. I had to get a dual receiver as well, with a 2 inch rise, and an 8 inch drop. I still have trouble putting the tow bar away, tucked under the bikes. Is that an extension on your tow bar to make it stick out pas the bike rack.?( when the bike rack is folded up ). I haven't noticed a video on this subject?

Awesome information retained you’re very helpful! I watch everyday some segments 2 or 3 times....starting to build my inventory of necessities of “must haves”. Do you have any information on using the electrical inverter system? Don’t really understand how that works. I’ve only camped with hook ups so far, ready to take it up a notch! Thx Martin your priceless....details coming up...on RV Street 🙂
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 4 года назад
Ah Perry you're to much and too kind. haha 🙏 As far as-inverter system-and how to use it, I haven't done a video on that yet. But I will give you a couple of nuggets to get you started. The ONLY time you turn ON your inverter is when you are not plugged in. If you turn ON your inverter, you're immediately drawing power from your house batt's and converting that 12V storage power to 120V to power some things in the RV. If you don't have a robust batt bay, your batt's will drain pretty fast. Never allow them to go below 50% charged. There's a lot of info out there on how to set up your batt bay for boon docking-which we have done in our coach to fit our needs-but we just haven't done a video on it. Everybody's needs and power demands are different. How you set up your batt bay depends on so many things and how much batt power you need to power everything you need power for. For most people-including us-when you start to boon dock and start relying on your batt's and inverter, you have to conserve power wherever you can. It's WAY different living than when hooked up. You have to conserve power, water, the way you dump tanks....everything. I may do a video on the inverter/batt bay in the future we'll just have to wait and see. Thank you though for being such a faithful watcher of our channel. 💕💕

*Concerning buying the water softener and the regeneration process* There are two ways to buy a water softener through my Channel: 1) The On-The-Go water softener through my Amazon Store in the “ Everything Water and Sewer” category. My awesome brass quick disconnects are also in this category. The quick disconnects sell out quickly-before they restock-so be sure to buy what you need when they become available. www.amazon.com/shop/rvstreet 2) The “Essential Portable RV Water Softener” through my fantastic, family owned water source company that I’ve been with for years. It’s the exact same water softener as the On-The-Go water softener, just with their name brand on it. This company carries all my wet bay water gear. www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Affiliate=RVstreet 💗ONCE YOU CLICK THE LINK ABOVE, TYPE IN THE FOLLOWING PART NUMBERS IN THE SEARCH BOX and then put them in the cart and check out. These part numbers BELOW will give you the exact same system I have. • For the 16,000 grain Water Softener (that will supply you approx. 1,600 gallons between recharging which is simple to do) just type in the the search box-Water Softener-and then you'll see the Essential RV Water Softener Portable 16,000 Grain w/Custom Hose. • For my Watts Water Regulator, type in the search box-Watts 263A-LF with gauge • For the Dual Water Filter Canisters with mount, you want to get the Essential Whole RV Water Filter System with Bracket. You’ll receive (2) 10” Sedi Filters and (1) .5 Micron Carbon Filter. So type in the search box-Essential Whole RV Water Filter System with Bracket • For extra .5 Carbon Filters which you are going to need, type in the search box-F1Pb CFB PB10 10" Carbon Filter Cartridge-. They are only sold in single packs but normally last up to twice as long as the Sedi Filters • For extra Sedi filters, type in the search box-RV-SED1 cartridge, 10", 2-pk • For custom made to length hoses, type in the search box-Hoses-and then click-Hoses, custom Built for you-.Then order what you need. NOTE: This is a fantastic system and you'll no longer have to worry about your RV water from the city or in your fresh water tank. It will be safe, great tasting water throughout your RV and all your plumbing and appliances will be protected too from harsh calcium deposits that can wreak havoc in your RV. If you need help, you can call them @ 602-625-1875 ask for Brad and be sure you tell them that RVstreet sent you. *To regenerate the water softener, here’s my best updated practice I’ve developed over the years to make sure your water softener is MARTINIZED* 😝 1) Turn OFF city water 2) Do a back flush for 10 minutes with city water at full pressure 3) Turn OFF city water 4) Remove main cap and stem assembly 5) Add 2 full 26 oz. boxes of iodized/non-iodized salt 6) 2-4 teaspoons of powdered Super Iron Out, depending on the hardness of the water in your area 7) Stir these ingredients into the resin using the stem of the head assembly 8) Rinse the under side of the cap and stem assembly AND the threads on the water softener to be sure they are totally clean (so the cap will seal properly) then screw the main cap and stem assembly onto the water softener 9) Let it sit for 1 hour 10) Attach city water hose to inlet port on the water softener 11) Turn ON city water for 10 minutes at full pressure for a fast-rinse 12) Taste the water coming out of the outlet port. If it tastes a little salty continue to rinse for a couple more minutes. Once salt taste is gone, use a test strip to check hardness. Once everything is OK… 13) Hook up the main RV water hose to the outlet port and you’ll be good to go NOTE: Under normal usage conditions you should have to do this about every 2-3 months

Martin, instead of removing the female fitting from the water softener every time you regenerate, go get a double female hose connector, then screw in 2 male quick disconnect fitting.
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 2 года назад
Hi Larry 😎 Ya others have mentioned something similar to this BUT.......the problem is all the other 2 male quick disconnects are junk and leak. There is just no other quick disconnects than the ones I use that don't leak. EVER! Mine are almost 6yrs, old with the original washers and still don't leak. And I have a ton of them all over the RV. So if I make a change like you or others have suggested to a permanent solution I'd have a constant leak going on. Been there done that and I hate leaks. Ya, I mean it's a little hassle the way I do it, but it's only about 3 MAYBE 4 times a year to regenerate and in the grand scheme of things I have no leaks and it's not that big of a deal to me. But I really do appreciate you taking the time to comment and suggest this to me 👍
@larryrfs
@larryrfs 2 года назад
@@RVstreet I was talking about using the double female Hose adapter so you could screw in your favorite male fittings at each end and plug this into the softener. This is used ONLY for back flushing the softener. It’s easier than unscrewing the quick disconnect that you use on the softener. PS your not replacing anything.

Yes. After you've done a back flush and AFTER you put the salt in, you put the top cap back on, hook up the one input hose as normal, do a slow rinse, then a short fast rinse, test the water, then hook up the hose that goes into the RV.

Have no idea. We don't have a demonizer. 😝 But our softener greatly reduces the hardness in the water, therefore very little creation water spots. @@suncitynews No the In/Out wouldn't be marked wrong. Did you put the required salt in it to begin with? Definitely back flush and then regenerate. Also test the water with test strips right out of the softener after you do these things. Filters being 3 months old are due to be changed though and you adding the softener at this time may just be a coincidence and causing you to look at the softener as the cause. So, I am going to place an order directly with On the Go for the water softener. I do want to point out that I have heard nothing but good things about the company RV Water Filters, but after doing my research I settled on wanting the On the Go brand softener specifically... I actually have another order with RV Water Filters for a short, custom length hose and a couple of other accessories that I am also waiting on, and will have no concerns with ordering other things I may need from them in the future. @RVstreet
@RVstreet 4 года назад
Well I wouldn't assume there is any damage yet because if it's well cared for as you say, they may have been running a water softener. But in any case since this rig is new to you-by default- you should go thru that entire rig and do every maintenance item there is to give you a clean baseline from this point forward. Concerning water items here's what I'd do. I would completely sanitize the entire water system. 1) Sanitize your fresh water tank with bleach. 1/4 cup per 15 gallons of capacity. Fill tank to the top and sit for about 4 hours. Run some of that water thru your water pump and cold water lines by opening all the faucets in the rig until you smell bleach. After 4 hours, drain entire water tank, add new filtered water, run your water pump for about a 30 seconds to flush that out and open all cold water lines again to flush out bleach their too. 2) Assuming you have water filters, remove both water filter canister covers, remove filter elements, fill both empty canisters with with pure white vinegar, spin back on the covers. Now open all cold faucets inside the rig one at a time till it starts to foam out the vinegar then shut each one off. If you have a washing machine, start it till vinegar circulates thru that too then stop washer. Let this vinegar stand in there for about 8 hours. This will break up any calcium build up on the lines, faucets etc. Once you do that, flush out the entire system with clean water by opening all faucets and run the washing machine more till all the vinegar is gone. Then go back and replace with new water filter elements. Go back to each faucet and remove the faucet caps and rinse them out because they will probably be full of deposits. If you don't have water filters you need to get them along with a softener. You can see how to set that up here with links and part numbers in the description area: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1Reh8q6-rC0.html 3) Do a complete cleaning and flushing of your water heater with white vinegar. You can see how to do that here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-En3Th-GLuYk.html Once this is all done you have a good baseline. Then install a good water filtering system and a softener going forward. If you do it the way I set mine up, you'll deliver safe, pure, great tasting water throughout the entire RV while at the same time protecting everything in your RV. NOTE: You may already know this but, since you mentioned you're in NM, you're going to have to protect that rig from the blistering sun and UV. Being anywhere but especially in the southern/western states that sun is brutal and will destroy the outside of an RV if you don't protect it properly. I covered this subject as well here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7KmgneT3HPs.html Hope this helps. Good luck Larry. 👍

Yes, 2 cans of salt each time. And don't forget a couple of Tbsps of Iron out. Then do another slow rinse for 25-30 minutes, fast rinse for 5 minutes, just like you did with the first 2 containers of salt. 👍

The water filter we use is the blue tube, do we hook that up first then the water softener?
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 3 года назад
Yes. All filters go BEFORE the softener. The softener is the last stage before it enters the coach. Just remember though, that inline blue filter is only a Sedi filter. It filters only the big stuff. If you want good tasting, real safe water, you really should consider installing a double canister filter after that blue one to filter out finer particles, then to the softener. I know a lot of people just use the one inline blue filter, but it really isn't sufficient in and of itself. Especially camp ground (CG) water where it varies so much from CG to CG. Good question Lisa. 👍

@@dovergerald1579 Absolutely. In fact just last week we met a new couple up in Missouri, and she said her husband is real fussy when it comes to how water tastes. I gave him a glass right out of the kitchen tap. He said wow, that is good. We've even had our water tested and it's better than what we had in the house. I wouldn't have our water any other way. The way we have our water setup it's not only safe but tastes good too. And because of our softener the coach is protected from mineral build up. We use this same water in our fresh water tank. If you treat your water right, there's nothing to be afraid of.

I have one of these but only use for weekends and store my rv for the winter and will bring the softener into my home. Does anyone know if I need to do anything special with the remaining water in the softener over the winter?
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 4 года назад
BEFORE Storing for the winter Draining Instructions You can use either of these two options if draining water from the unit is required. For both options DO NOT REMOVE top cap or head. Step 1: Turn the unit upside down and allow water to drain from inlet/outlet. Step 2: Use air source applied to inlet and allow water to drain from outlet. Storage Instructions Before placing the unit in storage or being idle for extended periods: Step 1: Perform the regeneration process. Step 2: Drain water from unit (DO NOT dump the resin out). Step 3: Unit is ready for storage. Post Storage Instructions After extended periods of non-use, sanitize the unit by following the instructions below: Step 1: Perform back flush. Step 2: Completely drain all the water from the tank. Step 3: Remove top cap and mix 1/4 packet of Sani-System with a gallon of water for the Standard Model, 1/2 packet of Sani-System with 2 gallons of water for the Double Standard Softener, or 1 full packet of Sani-System with 4 gallons of water for the Park Model Water Softener. Step 4: Pour solution into tank, put the top cap back on, and let it sit for a maximum of 60 seconds. Step 5: Turn the water on full stream for 10 minutes and flush the Sani-System out. Step 6: Perform regeneration.

Martin I just got a used OTG water softener just like yours, it is an older Green one in Color. but it says it is a Standard Ver. How can that be if it is the same size as yours and all of the other Double Standards I see, how old is your unit. thanks and keep the info coming.
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 4 года назад
Not sure about your color. I've never seen a green one. Ours is 3.5 going on 4yrs, old. All the ones I've seen are blue like ours and that's what we linked to also. The golden beads in ours will last 7 years with regular use. If you have a washing machine-which will use more water-more like 5yrs. Then you just change out the beads with new ones.

Hey I never saw you taking any water out of the softener before you added the salt, with a softener full of water how can you add salt?
@RVstreet
@RVstreet 4 года назад
No I didn't because you don't remove any water and NEVER turn it upside down to drain some out. As you add salt to existing water in the softener-as I showed-the salt is absorbed into the water and begins to sink to the bottom. There will be a little water that pushes out the quick disconnects as you add more mass-of course. But it's only 2 containers of salt so it's not going to be much. This is the proper way to recharge.
