Watch as BirdLife Australia's Mick Roderick explains just how important it is to protect the woodland and forest habitat that remains for threatened birds like the Critically Endangered Regent Honeyeater.
In October, we released 58 captive-bred Regent Honeyeaters into the spotted gum-ironbark woodlands of NSW’s Lower Hunter Valley on Wonnarua Country.
❗ Since then, several pairs of released, captive-bred birds have been busy building nests and incubating their eggs.
Habitat destruction and the increasing impacts of climate change mean woodland bird populations are declining across Australia.
Fewer than 350 Regent Honeyeaters are left in the wild. Urgent conservation action, including releases of captive-bred birds to boost the wild population, is vital to help the species survive.
🎁Regent Honeyeaters need your support now more than ever - can you donate today to help protect these critically endangered birds and their homes?
