Reggie is my dad’s age. Some people want this history suppressed because it helps explain the condition of many African Americans today. We are an historically despised people in our country.

I say this all the time. I’m 44 and my son is 12. My Mom (72) his grandma, actually lived during a time where it was LEGAL to tell her you can’t do this or that because you’re Black!! This stuff happened not that long ago!!

The craziest point is those people who were racist then not in 1867 but 1967 are still alive and have children and grand children. So racist is alive and thriving in new generations.

I'm 51 yrs old. My Moms was born in 1933. Her Pops, my grandfather, was born in 1911. Harriet Tubman died in 1913. Moms grandfather was born in 1867. That's two years after slavery was abolished. She took care of Grandpops and Great Grandpops before they passed. She told me the stories that they told her...RIP Moms...

I'm in/from houston and it's small cities like vidor, orange, jasper, etc. (east of I-10) that's could still be considered a sundown town.💯

Racism will always exist...that's true for almost ALL the "isms"...sexism,racism,age-ism etc. One thing all people CAN do is try &spread the type of energy we wanna be around tho,because our behaviors rub off on those around us. There will ALWAYS be ignorant people but I've tried to evolve beyond them so their ignorance is beneath me and can't drag me down.

Ocotgenarian widower here soon to be a nonagenarian. He's talking about Jim Crow. I too suffered the draconian laws of its time. It's still practiced today but in a much smoother and nuanced manner. One would think today's blacks would unite against this kind of behavior. They won't. We as blacks are as disorganized as a scattered herd of animals. Maybe one day we will unite and start working together. Let's all hope so.

One thing that always drives home for me just how recently this stuff was is that I married a white woman but this was illegal and highly punished until the year my father was born and I’m only 35

Yea, all you got to do is look at the comment section, and that is the heart and minds of the people. But yea Reggie knocked another one out just at the right time. He couldn't have picked a better time and place to share his story. Also, go check out his wiki page, there were other things that happened because he was one of the best high school football players in the country. By the way Alabama to this day, is still filled with confederate monuments and schools named after the very men that Reggie Jackson described. You guys did a great job on this.

Fortunately, I am a 75 yr. old woman who started school in the Colored school system in Baltimore, MD. I understand, observed,and experienced the segregation that we as a people had to endure. It wasn’t pretty. The only store in which my mother could try on clothes was a Jewish boutique.

Guess everyone forgot about Donald T Sterling & Marge Schott! My Gpop played in the Negro League & I grew up in Oyster Bay NY, Pres T Roosevelt's hometown. I was called n everyday by 2 classmates which interfered with my 1st yr (6yo) of education! It was horrific & had a deep profound effect on me! This is still a racist capitalist society that denounces Black & Brown experiences! Reggie put confirmation on why the country is a disservice if more rights are stripped & that not much has changed!
