Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler present Regina King with the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her work in "If Beale Street Could Talk" at the 91st Oscars in 2019.
This was a hard decision! I was rooting for both of those amazing performances. Amy as Dick Cheney's wife was incredible. Regina King in If Beale Street Could Talk was amazing too. She seems so surprised.
@@Cluver_03 The original commenter is sad that Chadwick has passed, and you are telling them not to worry because he will receive a posthumous award. An award does not make up for a life. I do not understand how you do not understand that.
@@Cluver_03 “Seeing Chadwick makes me sad.” “Don’t worry. He’ll win an award this year.” How you formed and justified that response is beyond me. Think a little deeper during your lovely evening.
I’m Asian, and honestly whenever a black person wins an Oscar I jump and dance and become so happy. I just love black excellence being celebrated. Tbh acting by black people really does move me to another dimension. I will always support my black brothers and sisters! You guys deserve the the world
Asian representation is slowly but steadily gaining ground in American film. The 2021 Oscar nominations will be released in 6 days, hopefully Steven Yeun gets a Best Actor nom for Minari!
@@caseyaulbach7693 that would be amazing, I’m south Asian (I should of mentioned) I need to see a lot more brown recognition in Hollywood too. Especially with the males. Hollywood always make south Asian men look stupid, and desexualise them. Remember that one character in that hit show who spent so many seasons not being able to confidently talk to the opposite sex and needed to whisper stuff in his friends ear and would run away from situations.
About time this Lady won an Oscar. She's been outstanding for many years in many different roles. Jerry Maguire, Ray, Southland to name a few. And is a class act to boot.
I just finished watching If Beale Street Could Talk, and she did a fantastic performance. I still remember her when she had funny roles like in When Stella Got Her Groove Back. My, has she come a long way. Proud of her 👏👏👏
Regina King has been in this industry for over 30 years and consistently stays working. In the last 5 years, she's won 3 Emmys, a Golden Globe and an Oscar among other awards. I'm SOOO glad to see her get the credit that she's long deserved!!
Regina King is a great actress. I was so happy for her. PS: This was not Chris Evans first time being a gentleman. He did the same to Betty White when she won 2015's People Choice Awards.
It's crazy how everything finally "clicked" for Regina King. Between 1985-2015 she put in 30 years of solid and downright great work just to be ignored by the major awards and critics. But since 2015 she has won an Oscar, a golden globe and three Primetime Emmys, (maybe 4 if she wins in her category this year)along with a slew of other awards. It's so great seeing a deserved artist finally get her dues.
Not poor Amy, she was lucky she got a nomination for this performance. Also with her other nominations she was never the best of the bunch ever, and the academy has never done her dirty. Now Glenn Close on the other hand... she was robbed twice especially for Fatal Attraction and Dangerous Liaisons.
@East Kaz...I thought so too for a while...but rewatching Vice made me appreciate her performance a whole lot more..especially the Shakespearean soliloquy scene which was acting perfection at it's peak
Amy Adams even was supposed to be nominated in 2018 for Best Actress. The academy claim she was accidentally listed. But rumour has it that they have to make a room.
I remember watching the spectacular performance she gave in RAY and being shocked to realize she wasn’t even nominated, But even in that young age I knew that she would one day win
Without a SAG nor BAFTA nomination, Regina King still pulled it off. Congratulations to you my dear and YES God is good all the time ❤️🙏📿 Regina won....Get over it guys. She was favored to win
She was favored to win the Oscar, because there were no black winners last year (despite black nominees) and Twitter complained. This year, the Oscars made sure there was a black winner or two. After 2016 and the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, there has been a radical shift in tone and now the nominated movies/performances are done so more for political reasons than meritorious ones. As you pointed out, Regina missed out on nominations at BAFTA and SAG, two very important precursors! (The other one being the Golden Globe.) It is very telling that she missed out on BAFTA/SAG and still won Oscar. When that happened to Sylvester Stallone a few years ago for "Creed" (like Regina, he also won GG but didn't get BAFTA/SAG nods) he went home Oscar-less.
@@musicaltheatergeek79 that's a very stupid reason. She was the critics favorite and I'm not talking about just a Critics choice Awards. Politics probably could have played a reason in that but she did put in a great performance in that movie.
Please! Critics are the worst! They always check where the wind is blowing lest they offend someone. In this political climate, don't expect honest reviews from critics. Lately, too many movies (and Broadway shows, for that matter) are given a pass or even a rave if they are about empowered women or some social cause. Nothing wrong with those types of movies, but they are not being fairly critiqued. Meanwhile, a recent movie like *The Highwaymen* (which has been embraced by viewers and impartial critics) is shred to bits by critics, because it doesn't feature anything like that. That said, you're entitled to your opinion, as am I. After all, it's all subjective in the end. But there is a growing consensus that Regina's win was more about these tumultuous times and her esteemed reputation than the actual performance, which many consider to be pretty meh -- especially when compared to the other nominees. It's not like it was a weak field and she was the default winner.
*Celtic DW* Okay, I see I'm wasting my time. I thought you were willing to have an honest/open discussion about this, but you just resorted to "I'm right, you're wrong" mode, which extremists on both sides of the political spectrum tend to do when confronted with an issue they don't know how to defend.
I think all POC, no matter what country they’re from, no matter what background, no matter what language, no matter the skin color, jump for joy when our brothers and sisters receive recognition for amazing artistry like Ms. King’s work. May we all fight for our dreams no matter what kind of discrimination or hatred we face, we work hard and we deserve it!😭😭♥️♥️
Marina De Tavira agreeing the moment they announced Regina is quite touching since a couple of days before the Oscar nominations (which she was not expecting since her nomination was such a long shot, though really deserving noneless) she was interviewed, among others, by Vanity Fair and was asked what film made her cry that year and she talked about If Beale Street Could Talk with such sadness in her voice that I believed she would've voted for Regina had she had the chance.
Really happy for Regina King because she was my personal favorite of the nominees but this was a really strong category, definitely the strongest of the 4 acting categories this year. Literally any of them would’ve been a worthy winner in my opinion.
And now she's on the run for her second and for a directing cred! Bless she's incredibly talented and ever deserving of her flowers! REST PEACEFULLY BELOVED CHADWICK! On a side note: God bless Chris Evans, I've replayed that little moment one too many times. What a gorgeous soul.
But really how cute is Chris Evans, always helping women up the steps & the look he gives Regina's mom. So sweet. This speech brings me to tears every time!!
I think some need a metaphorical breath of air. After the heaviness of Moonlight and Beale Street, he needs to chill for a little. Probably needs a break to unwind from breaking everyone’s hearts all the time
Hi Regina, I am so proud of you I watched you grow up on the television series 227 and you have been flourishing in the Filming Industry ever since I commend you highly. God has overshadowed you with blessings you are greatly favored my sister we love you and your sweet personality. God bless you, from your sister in the Lord in Hammond, LA.
Alex Treviño Agree 💯... Barry’s direction and the cinematography was so lush! Thought it would take Original Score but didn’t have the noms and momentum...
Rachel Weisz was sooo happy for Regina even tho The favourite it’s one of her best performances!!! the classiest women ever 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 she deserves all the awards 💕
From 227, Boys In The Hood, Poetic Justice, & many others , to If Beale Street Could Talk & finally the Oscars. How could you not be happy for Regina King. And All The Time God is Good ❤
Nearly 3 minutes into this video before she gets announced, none of the other acting awards that got uploaded today had a 'skit' included. I love Regina King.
Well deserved. Now will someone PLEASE give this woman a STAR ON THE WALK OF FAME too. There are so many folks who I see getting one lately, who really DON'T deserve it, but she DOES.
5) Adams, 4) Tavira, 3) King, 2) Stone, 1) Weisz Here's the problem with this category: The actual "best supporting actress" was King by a clear margin, yet in my view, the two most memorable performances of these five shouldn't have been placed in this line up to begin with. In "The Favourite", Anne, Abigail and Sarah all influence the story in equal measure. The film absolutely depends on all three characters to realize its tone and resonance, and all three of its *leading* women rise to the challenge. Honestly, saying Weisz would've been by choice isn't meant to criticize Stone's work in any way, as they both give what might be their most vivid and engaging performances to date.
Lot of lead actresses somehow end up in the supporting actress category. Like the year when Viola Davis won for her role in Fences. Her role in that movie was one of the leads. Or when Jennifer Hudson won for Dreamgirls. Effie White was not a supporting character. Effie was the main character. Dreamgirls was centered around Effie.
I've been watching her since she played Brenda Jenkins in 227. Since the 80's. Watching her win an Oscar is so incredible. I had tears in my eyes when she did that. Congratulations girl. Well deserved.
I just love how this woman is so talented. I have seen her on movies throughout the years, and even before, I always admire her as an actress and as a human being.
So sad seeing Regina’s son smiling, knowing he was in immense pain. Really thinking about this incredible woman…🥺 Can’t wait for Regina to win her EGOT (along with Viola Davis who needs that Grammy)… a Tony for a future Broadway performance and a Grammy for the audiobook of her future memoir. LOVE THIS WOMAN!
Coming from 227, Boyz N The Hood Poetic Justice Higher Learning How Stella Got Her Groove Back to so many other amazing projects…she deserved this!!!! A true talent!!!!! Bless her and healing for her for the loss of her son. 🙏🏾
Protesting is happening. It’s 2020. I searched for this because I wanted to watch a black woman WIN something. Also her speech is just ✊🏾 “No label, no slogan, no party, no skin color, and no religion is more important than the human being.”-James Baldwin
