I was there in that concert. The curtain closed after that song and when house lights turned on, everyone was in awe, petrified in their seats. Haha

What separates Regine from the other singers local and international is her crystal clear, strong, powerful, sustained, not irritating belts that come not from her chest but from her soul. Many singers may reach higher notes than Regine but quality wise, it won't be as beautiful as Regine's.

I was holding my breath. I always love Barbara Streisand song. It is a big song for anyone and she sang it very beautiful like an angelic swan.

I'm my opinion the only singer I know who doesn't get ugly and when hitting high notes.

I completely agree with you, M-Angel. This Barbra Streisand song version by Regine could only be described in one word - PERFECTION! And to Ovela, your jaw-dropping facial reaction was enough to show how totally amazed you were to Regine's skyrocketing rendition. And I'm so glad that just after 3 reaction videos on her live performances, you two are now totally convinced why Regine Velasquez is famously known as the one and only Asia's Songbird. Great reaction! :) By the way, since you two have kept on comparing Regine to Celine, may I share to you a little trivia. When the great American RnB, soul singer, Peabo Bryson (who had performed/collaborated with world-class singers as Roberta Flack, Regina Belle, and Celine Dion), staged a concert here in Manila many years ago, he sang a duet with Regine. To cut it short, he was astounded by her phenomenal talent. And he told this to everyone in front of the audience that night about Regine: “And I must say that this maybe the only female vocalist in the world who could rival Celine Dion.” Just so you know, guys!

Hey guys! Love love lovely reaction! "Piece of sky" is actually a masterpiece written by renowned Broadway Maestro Michel Legrand and originally sang by Barbra Stresiand. The performance you just watched is from Regine's concert called "Songbird Sings Streisand" where most of the lined up songs were broadway musicals. When the great Michel Legrand heard this, he was so impressed he flew to the Philippines where she kissed Regine's hand and told her she is his most favorite singer of all time alongside Streisand.Then they worked together in a 3-night concert called "Songbird sings Legrand" where Regine sang Legrand's masterpieces and he was the conductor. You should watch their performance of "Piece of Sky" together its also here on youtube. Another trivia though, as you noticed Regine's vocal approach here is different from that of "If you go away" and "I don't wanna miss a thing". This is because Regine is capable of changing her vocal placement from Pop to Broadway/Opera in a higher discipline. In fact, she auditioned before in New York for the Broadway Musical Miss Saigon and was then invited to train in london. She did'nt take the offer and chose the path of Pop. Despite this, she did a lot of crossovers, without even undergoing formal voice lessons. This is how dynamic her vocals are and the numerous potential that her vocals posseses is impeccable. No wonder the biggest names in music praised her and have only SUPERLATIVE praises for her during her prime.

Yes! Regine can sing live effortlessly, she doesnt lip sync. She is our one of greatest belters in the philippines.

That performance of Regine was from her concert series Songbird sings Streisand, her simple tribute to Barbra and her music. She did that show for like 8 Fridays & Saturdays of November & December 2003, and all shows are sold out, SRO shows 😊

She's the only Asia's SongBird no doubt about it . . no one can replace her . . and we're so lucky we have her!!

Hwhaat? I'm out of breath just watching this. There was no falsetto, it is all head voice! No kidding I would pass out attempting to sing this song. I'm beginning to think the myth that they are part merpeople is real, lol I kid. But I did hear that part of her training was singing in the sea, like partly submerged in water that's how she developed those lungs I guess, impressive.

Love the discussion towards the end. The song is from yentl by Barbra S and French composer Michel Legrand. Regine just made a musical/broadway themed concert series last November 2015. Too bad we are not allowed to take videos. So only the audio is uploaded in RU-vid. She sang cuts from ms Saigon, les miz, phantom of the opera, Dreamgirls, Wicked, Filipino theatre acts, etc. She also did her rendition of still hurting, corner of the sky, send in the clowns, what i did for love, climb every mountain, etc. And it was worth every cent we paid. Regine has tried over the years almost 3 decades of recreating her self, from hairstyles, to fashion even her style of singing though one thing she has maintained is that clean and clear tones! It's funny , you guys were making comparison to Celine, haha, love it. Celine as we all know, has the pop rock raspy power house ballad voice. Regine is between pop and musical theatre sound. I am so lucky to watch that concert of Regine V. personally at Greenbelt 1, Makati. The concert is supposed to be only 1 month show (4 weekends) but because the tickets were sold like hotcakes, it lasted 6 or 7 months I think. Regine tries to mimic the voice of Barbra Streisand because that concert is called "Songbird sings Streisand". The place is not a huge place, it is just a cinema actually, but when you are there and when she starts to sing, you feel like you are somewhere very far 😁 hehehe that concert is MAGNIFICO! 😚
