One month ago I travelled with them from Vienna to Budapest (new route) in a 2+1 low cost carriage. It was an excellent journey, more than 2,5 hrs for just 8,80 EUR, seat reservation included! The 2+1 low cost coaches are former DB 1st class coaches, the normal standard class coaches are former ÖBB 2nd class coaches and the relax/business class coaches are former ÖBB 1st class coaches.

That is not a standard low-cost carrige. The seats in Regio-Jets low cost are usualy in 2+2 configuration, very narrow and unconfortable and with limited legroom. I would always recomend at least standard, or competing Ceske Drahy service.

That's something that's denied to us in the UK! The only locomotive hauled trains in the UK are the Nova3 used by Trans Pennine Express and they have a Driving Van Trailer at the other end of the train. And fairly certain you can't see the locomotive from inside as the end vestibule is for staff only

RegioJet certainly provides excellent seats and service for the price! Amazing to have two meal services during a 3+ hour trip. It’s just as well the food is wrapped and delivered to the passengers at their seats. A cafe car wouldn’t be the safest option during a pandemic. The countryside was lovely and peaceful, but for those who find it less than enchanting, entertainment was available on screens or mobile phones. If I was grading, I’d give RegioJet an A+. Thanks, Dylan!

The reason it's not is because rich Americans have their money in oil stocks and think Amtrak is a competitor of planes and cars. They elect people who will protect their bottom line which excludes trains.

Massive fan of RegioJet. I often had to go to Czechia for work at my last job, and they're a fantastic service. Nice to get free refreshments for a train journey and coffee was always excellent quality. I couldn't get over how cheap the RJ tickets always were - I could get a trip from Bratislava to Brno for a fiver. In Dublin, it costs me 6.75Euro return from my local DART station to the city centre 10 miles away and there certainly aren't any freebies! :)

You summed up perfectly why I love train travel so much -- you can sit and watch the world go by. Your second class seat seems a great deal for less than 20 Euros. Comfy looking, wide seat and the food looked quite good and extremely reasonable! The rotunda at the station in Prague was absolutely gorgeous. Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing, Dylan. I used Regiojet to travel from Brno to Prague a few years ago. The prices are excellent (7-8€ for the cheapest class) and they offer tea for free even if you don't order anything else. I would also recommend them for bus travelling (Prague-Warsaw for 12(!)€ and the crew brings you drinks for free too. The only inconvenience is, as mentioned, that WiFi wasn't the best on the bus. Otherwise very enjoyable rides.

As a Czech who travels between Prague and Zábřeh, I think Regiojet and Relax class is the best choice. Business is little bit overpriced, as you dont get much more than at the relax class (unless the privacy), and when you catch good deal (price varies - depends on how the train is exposed - you can ride from Prague to Zábřeh for less then 10€ in Relax class (about 2h journey)
@RedHillian

I was all psyched up to say "if it's a 2+1 layout in low cost, I'll take that", and then you mentioned the price! I think if they're all similarly low like that I'd be tempted to get 1st class and have a nice little compartment! Food prices look great too - thanks for the ride!
@John_Fugazzi
@John_Fugazzi 4 года назад
Another good Czech train! You asked for comments about what class one would travel in: Length of journey is a big factor. A short trip needn't be first class unless there is a particular amenity you would want. Today one must also factor in health issues. I've noticed in your recent travels that when you travel first class there are generally very few other people in the car. On one video very recently, I began to think that hardly anybody was travelling these days and then you went into the coach class car and it was packed 2 + 2 across. For that reason I'd opt for the higher class seat. I don't know about First Class in a compartment with three others, however because it is more confined. In this case your 2nd class ticket was the optimal choice.
@jmsmilfajt
@jmsmilfajt 4 года назад
The main advantage of the compartment 1st class is when you're travelling with at least two other people, then you'll most likely have a coupé for yourself and therefore a privacy. I like Astra (2+2) coaches the most - I don't really care about the other passenger as long as I have the window seat. The on-seat delivery is there, the leather cover too and usually the coach is quiet because most pax use the entertaiment screens with their headphones.

Thanks for this great insight into Regiojet and Czechoslovakia. The interior of the train is so superior to anything I have experienced in regional travel in Australia. Obviously great value for money and the at seat catering service is a really good feature. The meal portions are a little light on for my appetite (like airline meals) but considering its all done on an at seat basis, it satisfies. The sad part of the video is the realisation that we'll be wearing facemasks on public transport worldwide for some time into the future. Thanks again and stay healthy and safe.

People in Europe have a tendency to take government regulations as mere recommendations (with great differences between countries, mind). This has its advantages, so abuse of power is very difficult, but also its disadvantages. In general, countries try to strike a balance between trying to curb the spread of the virus, and keeping the country (and the economy) running. Bear in mind that borders in Europe are largely a thing of the past, and closing them has severe economic repercussions. But things are spiralling out of control all over Europe again, so expect stricter restrictions soon.

Nice video! RegioJet can offer quite the comfort, all for at least £18! Bit of a shame that the Wi-Fi is not the most advanced but even there is a good journey in sight, there's normally a disadvantage. Take the AT300s for example, these trains may be a bit faster than the old but there is a slight problem like the way the table is designed as well as the seats. It's not always the most impressive but at least it's something.

About the Low-Cost coach: they used to have some old Swiss regional coaches with awful seating for this class. As these cars were pushed onto the public service Rychlik line Brno - Bohumin from December 2019, they bought some second hand ex-TEE 1st class (!!!) coaches from DB to fill the gap. They must be the most comfortable low-cost service at all. (Flixtrain, watch and learn! :) ) In your last video from PKP EIP service you meant the confusing Polish way of labelling the platform and tracks. Have you noticed that the Czech way is even more confusing? :)
@vilemvanhara3852
@vilemvanhara3852 4 года назад
The Czech way of labelling tracks is like this: Through tracks are numbered 1 and 2, tracks to the side of the station adjacent to track 1 are odd-numbered, on the other side even-numbered. So, in a station with 12 tracks and the through tracks in the middle, it'd look like this: 11 9 7 5 3 1 2 4 6 8 10 12

The more of these trips you show, the more you are demonstrating how we get 'ripped off' in Britain. Have you any plans to try the new Regiojet sleeper?
@keithparker2206
@keithparker2206 4 года назад
@TheRenaissanceman65 I don't think that is completely the case! The Germans have also privatised but in a different way. No matter what colour the government is, they have all regarded railways as a milk-cow.
@keithparker2206
@keithparker2206 4 года назад
@TheRenaissanceman65 The federal government owns DB but the services are franchised and DB has to bid for them. Plus there are also open access operators like Flix. Fares are set by tariff unions for local services, DB is in competition for long distance services and the fares are still cheap!

Yes I filmed the Regiojet sleeper a few days later so expect that video in the coming months.

Inwpikd travel in the cheapest class. I am a cheap skate and will travel in standard class over first even if first is only £1 more expensive! (Unless first class has food added in of course then first all the way!) but yeah, cheap seats and with a 2+1 config amazing value to be had!!!

Funny that 3rd class (standard) gets seat back screens, while 2nd class (relax) has to use the spotty WiFi to access the entertainment system.

Tina20 There is several kinds, some of them seasonal, the regular one tastes like coke with a lot of lemon in it (in my opinion, that is). I wanted to go to CZ next week - but no, thanks to Covid 19.

I've come to the conclusion that, looking out of a train window, you could be anywhere in Europe, until you see buildings. Those look actually different between countries and climates.

Student Agency, (Regiojet) also operates coach services, and they put UK coaches to shame. Massive recline. Cute girl hostess. Free drinks, snacks, newspapers, huge seat back media display, wifi...... And bargain prices.

Good to see we are not the only country with clueless railway architects! whats the point of having a classic station and putting an airport terminal on the front!

Was the food that cheap throughout any class or was it just that cheap because of relax class? Because that is genuinely the best priced food I've ever seen, even the 1 euro ham croissant which equals out to 90p, on english trains that wont even get you a bag of crisps
@markoobid2005
@markoobid2005 4 года назад
The price of food is the same in every class, except Low Cost where there is no service at all.

The food/drinks are all Czech local products sold at their net costs without any margins. That is only possible with the lean structure and efficient organization of the company (seasonal part time employees, buying 2nd hand cars and other equipment at maximum discounts, etc...). With the cheap fares Regiojet also has to sell at least 85-90% of seats in each train in order to be profitable.
