What a great video. I once a bus from Dubrovnik (no train service) to Split and then a daytime train to Zagreb. This was prior to the Regiojet, probably 15 year ago at least. Thanks for taking me along for a revisit.
Thank you for the beautifully shot video of a train trip I didn't know existed and now it's very much part of my bucket list. That's the main reason I watch travel videos like yours to get an objective point of view and shots of incredible scenery. I took the night train from Paris to Monte Carlo and awoke to the Cote d'Azur vistas that I will never forget.
Part 2 is even better than part 1, due to the stunning landscape. Thanx for the additional and historic information. Great video as they always are. It is lonely at the top...........
Thanks for the video! I took the train around the same time as you did. Met some good people in my cabin, enjoyed the views in the Croatian country very much! This video reminded me of it and for that I thank you for making such extensive report about it!
Beautiful video, thank you for promoting my country! I hope you had a great time! Just one small correction, at 26:41 you have the section called "crossing the Una river", this is not Una, rather a small river called Butižnica. I assume you thought it was Una because it flows from the general direction of the Una railway line, however, the source of Una river is some 50 km to the north and Una flows in a north-easterly direction until it joins the Sava river at Jasenovac.
@39:47 what is Split Solna? I think u mean Solin, cause Solna is in Sweden.. nice shots 👍 I hope there's one time that the train would drive thru Vienna. Maybee Prag-Bratislava-Vienna-Graz-Maribor to Zagreb. That would be a better option. And a 24 Hour Trip need a Restaurant Car... and maybee 1 or 2 car transport wagon.
Awesome, I really like your videos. I already knew this line and these trains because I have a friend in Bratislava. I like these trains, how it was in reality before in Spain, not everything is high speed. All the best
That was amazing really enjoyed your video’s thanks for the fabulous content you do I soo wish I could do a train journey like that looking forward to your other videos I feel like I’m there visiting them with you stay safe and well x from a very windy cold 🇬🇧 xx
A Masterpiece of Video .. i recently made same trip with HZ ICN with special technology .. absolutely great .. from my history I know that Una Line would be even more spectacular but....
Thank you for nice video 1 and 2 RegioJet 1047 Praha hl.n. - Split. In 2021. I was go with RegioJet 1047 in trase Zagreb - Rijeka. Nice expierences. I hope 2022 go to Praha with RegioJet.
The Platform at Splt was long enough ! Curious how Regioget came up with the 100 minute delay. Do they deduct customs delays and other "unavidable" delays such as starting late. ? But this seemed like a really great trip with warm weather and windows that open ! Shame that a 24 hour trip would be without restaurant car.
Well done.
Insider Tip About 10 Kilometers South of Split is Stobrec. It is said that the Campsite there is the most beautiful in the entire Mediterranean. I don't know anyone more beautiful
I travelled a part of this route last summer as part of the MAV train from Budapest to Zagreb. The MAV train stopped at Koprivnica, with a short replacement bus over a closed railway, then a regional EMU replacing the intercity train all the way to Zagreb.
Back around 2006 I made this trip with my family on our way to a couple of weeks swanning around the Dalmatian islands in a sailboat. We had taken a train from Wein to Zagreb and then took a sleeper ( 6 berth Couchette) to Split. Your shots of coming down the mountain side with the Adriatic on our right brought back so many fantastic memories! I really really love the historical and technical information you give. How do you know which trains are which? Which locos are pulling them? I live in Italy now and travel by train a lot. (Basilicata to Trentino next month!) and I would love to enrich my travels with this kind of information... If you can point me to some resources, I'd be most appreciative!
Beautiful trip to a beautiful coast. Sorry Turkey, Greece and Caribbean, but I won't change my Adriatic coast for you. (I'm Slovene myself, and we do own a short 45 km part of it.) I'll just correct you in terms of locomotive name. It's not "Little cavalry" but "Little Caravel". This class took the name after the Class 2063 "Caravel" (Karavela), the biggest and most powerful diesel locomotive of Yugoslavia. Both classes share one technical detail: they have a turbocharger added to their EMD 645 engine. The difference is that 2044 only has 12-cylinders engine and only 4 traction motors (A1A-A1A), hence the adjective "mala" (little). From other ex-YU EMD locomotives, only class 666 of Tito's Blue Train had turbocharger. All others are without it.
Been to Slovenia several times. In my opinion Slovenian scenery is far better than most of the route in both videos for this trip review except the end part on this video arriving at the Mediterranean Sea. Slovenia has the beautiful lakes, mountains, forests and farmland and the main lines run beautifully along the Sava River, both from Austria and Hungary, and down to Croatia at Dobova. Love both Bled and Bohinj Lakes.
They’ll probably extend the time on the timetable now by 2 hours to stop having to pay out any money for delays and they’ll still overrun the timetable, great post again
Una river is quite far from Knin. You were passing river Butižnica, not Una. Also forest fire between Labin Dalmatinski and Kaštel Stari wasn't couple years ago, it's been few weeks before your journey. :)
Running a daily service with just 2 trainsets on a route that "officially" takes 22 hours is not just risky... It seems RegioJet relies on the fact that 99% of passengers don't know about the mandatory refunds. The sane approach would be to include longer stops of 30-45min in Zagreb, Ogulin and Knin, to buffer any delays. Of course that would make the journey time >24 hours and require an additional trainset - but in practice I guess that that's normal anyways, hence the regular bus replacement from Ogulin to Split. I'm not sure if that's actually cheaper than leasing some additional waggons (the bus companies will demand a good price for such short-term services).< Or they should lobby to reopen the line from Bihac to Knin, which would shave off at least an hour from the journey time. The part of the line in Bosnia was actually restored after the war, but HZ then closed the part between Knin and the border. There is however a treat from 2017 between Croatia and Bosnia to fully restore the line. It might help, if international rail companies would express interest in running trains there.
I made this trip last week. For sure the private compartment is the way to go, it's around €150-210 each way Bratislava-Split for up to 4 people in the compartment (ie your family). Train was late both ways but it wasn't such an issue. Also Aircon broke on way back so we should be getting a 50% refund, not an issue as we moved to a free compartment in another carriage with Aircon. Shame there is no restaurant car though. Pilsner is €1 a bottle so no sense to take your own drinks and great apple pie for 40 euro cents 😁
Comments in form of CC on sceeen lack in accuracy concerning relations between Croatian Kingdom and Hungarian Kingdom up to 1918. Check your facts first before you write statements like "Hungarian control of Croatia..." . Overall the video was pretty solid. Good Job!
Thank you for another amazing video. I found it odd/interesting that there wasn't a café car or some sort of a diner. What was the cake that you bought and what were your options? Also, did the staff car in your train have a kids play area that was used for storage? Love the videos and they brighten my week. Hello from Montréal 🇨🇦
Yeah it would be good for this long, but remember the Regiojet night train is a lower price point option as Doc emphasised early on in the first video of this trip. It's couchette only so not even real sleeper carriages. So as he said again in the first video, expectations have to be set accordingly.
@@yasukiwi yes I saw the first video from Praha to the Hungarian border. I was curious if Regio Jet's offerings are similar to Snålltaget which he did last year as well. Budget or not, it looks like an interesting operation with questionable customer service. That being said, I wonder when Regio Jet will acquire new trainsets to augment the pool of equipment already in service. 2 trainsets only covering a 20+ hour trip is not safe. However, the equipment cost money, perhaps they don't have it?
@@doc7austin It looks fun! I have enjoyed both the Snålltaget and Party Jet series. But seriously what are the cakes you bought?? They look amazing, would like to know if I can obtain them here in Montreal. We have a decent sized eastern european demographic, thus there could be a bakery that makes it.
At 28:40 the Train has already left Drnis. Shortly afterwards there is a further bend to the right, where the Train really starts up again for the Steep climb that follows. 29:35 now you can see far into the Plain. On the right at the Foot of the Hill you can see the Drnis Station, with a lot of imagination of course. One of my absolute Highlights on this Route
In 1974 at Zagreb rail station occurred fatal train accident with cca 150 casualties In Smiljan, near Gospič in 1856 was born Nikola Tesla In Zrmanja kanyon was filming "Winnetou"
By end of 2025, line Hungarian border - Koprivnica - Zagreb - Karlovac will be completely modernized and enabled for speeds of 160kmph in both direction, reason you had many delays this time is cause of all of the works that are being done. Section to Ogulin will remain a bottleneck till they complete new high speed line also called nizinska pruga, that will connect Rijeka to Zagreb,, this should be completed by end of 2028, after that only remains section between Dreznica and Split, this section just got EU funding and work on line should start in late 2002s, and be completed by 2032. New sections will be Dreznica - Otocac - Gospic, from Gpspic to Gracac line will be doubletracked and electrified for 160kmph speeds, from Gracac to Split there'll be a new route, with loads of tunnels, bridges and viaducts. A 20km tunnel will be built as part of that project, but we'll know more when project documentation is final and work on the line actually starts around 2028. Anyhow, then journey from Hungarian border to Split will be no more than 5 hours.
Trip from Zagreb to Split lasts 8h. And it is 8h....so trip from Prague to Zagreb is 17h😱😱😱....you said it should last 22h and train delayed almost 3h. No....next time come by airplane and save lots of time
With scheduled flights, I get this price with luggage AT LEAST (from Germany to Split), with low-cost airlines, depending on the package, it is hardly cheaper. And then there would be in addition the transfer from and to the airports... I will be using this train again in early June, albeit from Split to Prague. A "bed" in a compartment for 4 persons costs me EUR 44.70 and I will very likely have it to myself again. Several compartments are currently still completely free, which is unlikely to change significantly in the remaining month.
@@themazeLE If traveling for 22+ hours is fine for you, then sure it's cheaper in the shared compartment. I don't know what would justify traveling 22h inside of Europe for 1000km, especially since everything is within a 3h flight.
@@robimarko Some people hate planes, you know? And some people( like myself) love trains. Planes are nowhere near the comfort of a train. Plus, this is sleeper train, you can sleep all the way. Without hidden fees, and you can stretch your legs every few hours. Planes suck
I would like to know whether this channel's pride in the exploits of the Red Army in the Great Patriotic War and the frequent references to locations at which it defeated the invading forces will now extend to the bravery of the Ukrainian people in defending their motherland against invasion?
hahah, did u just saved 120€? I guess it is not regiojet fault that they arrived late to split, that is child behavior from ur side that u wanna urs 120e back, if everyone would do that, they will stop that train due to non-profit:/ but yes, I agree and I hope they will add some time reserve like 2-5 more hours for that journey.
@@doc7austin But you also acknowledged in Pt1 that a lot of the delay was caused by infrastructure works in Czechia that caused the train to take a detour. Working as an airline reservations agent, we would say such a disrupt is uncontrollable (i.e. out of our control), so maybe such parts of delays shouldn't be counted in the overall delay or part of the refund should be paid out by Czech Rail Ministry? As far as Croatian border patrol is concerned, maybe something needs to be done there. Thankfully going into Croatia from Slovenia at Dobova I don't remember the checks taking anywhere near that long, though the bus through the border checkpoint south of Dubrovnik going into Montenegro was a pretty long one (but that's more on the Montenegrin officials). Frankly, having been to Slovenia several times, I think the scenery is superior to this route and I would recommend the OBB/ZSSK instead though I haven't looked at the timetable so maybe as a night train you wouldn't see any of Slovenia anyway LOL. Yes, trains in that region suffer graffiti issues sadly. In my visits to Slovenia I have hardly seen a single train without some graffiti on it. lastly, a little complaint. Obviously you were angry with Regiojet and that's understandable. Good to hear you got your money back. But in publishing in the emails showing the full name of the staff member who you corresponded with, I thought you were pretty unprofessional. That left a bitter taste in my mouth! That staff member had a right to expect that communication with you was for you. It was not written with a public audience in mind. If you were going to make the emails public, there is an expectation that you protect the privacy of that person by at least masking their last name. In my opinion you have breached the privacy of that individual which is very poor from you.
@@doc7austin Sorry, That's not a valid reason to breach their privacy. As I said, you could still show the emails with the staff's last name masked. I don't know about Croatia but I do know a lot of Western countries have and are updating and strengthening their privacy laws. I know as a customer-facing airline staff, guarding individual's privacy both employees and customers, is now very important. If you did this kind of thing in a western country and the other person saw it, you could face legal action. I am trying to give you some pertinent advice for your channel. Wouldn't want to see you get in trouble, my friend. As I said if you have an issue with the company like you did with Regiojet, there's no problem publicly sharing that. Just also at the same time respect individual's privacy. Being in the same kind of role, I'd also like to point out we're human, and usually the errors are not deliberate one. People make mistakes. Might be a new staff, or a training issue that the staff needs some upskilling in or still have outdated info staff are referring to (still something the company needs to take responsibility for of course), Believe me that happens. Consistency of customer service is one of the greatest challenges for many companies all over the world. And personally-speaking, very frustrating for me, when one of my colleagues has mis-informed a customer (I just try to remember none of us is perfect, including me haha). So customers should be careful before automatically accusing companies of being deliberately deceitful. it may be poor human staff skills/education/current policy material. Of course it could absolutely be a company deliberately trying to avoid its responsibilities so not saying you're incorrect in this case!
The Regiojet staff wrote two lies in a short sentence (this cannot be a coincidence): 1. delay of 100 min (in reality it was more 170 min); 2. no delay refund even with a delay of 100 min (which breaches Regiojets own terms and EU regulation); Regiojet may bring on legal action on me; my answer on sth. like that is going to be very powerful - believe me!
@@cestmoi1262 I agree. One thing I like about Docs videos is he has more scenery of the actual trip than some of the other rail trip review guys who focus 80% on interior.
Hi! I have a questions and I will be very gratefull if you answer me. is it possible to lock up in the couchette for the night? how about safety while traveling? Can anyone accidentally enter the compartment for a moment? Is the service intrusive and goes inside? @doc7austin’s DreamlinerCentral
You can lock the door inside, but from the outside only with a square key, which "normally" only railway men have. Since this train only makes a few official stops (fewer since 2022 than before), the risk of thieves is relatively low. Anyway, I've never heard of any security issues.
