I had a 2003 Mustang in highschool and college, I literally said that all the time. Including the last time it ran, after I drove it into 4feet of water lol
This generation of Mustang was the only generation of Mustang that spawned a police version with it's famous tagline, "This Ford chases Porsches for a living".
The Fox body Mustang, the official car of: -Yes I've been arrested with cocaine on me -Tribal Armband tatoos -A guy who's girlfriends thong is always showing
Haha as a foxbody owner I'll fix it Had a cop dump my weed Have spilled easily 100 Tim Hortons double doubles under the driver seat because the only cupholder is the gap beside the park brake Let a girl I liked drive it but she later admitted she was drunk, so I denied her this Canadian Bacon
4:50 - That shot, with the grey overcast sky, the billboards, with the pearl white 'Stang and those beaming rectangular headlight... That is the most awesome RCR shot to this date. (07/13/2021)
Every time I watch this video I’m like “Hell yeah I want a fox body!” Then I go look at my bank account and I’m like “Awh well guess that 01 Camrys gonna have to last a little longer.”
"i have a kid but I still party" -ends video with a cover of Avril Lavigne. Yep...totally explains why my father had one, fits the stereotype perfectly XD
mmmmmmmmnope BROWARD doom, quake, & half-life are all games that qualify for G.O.A.T. well before goldeneye would. now when it comes to multiplayer offline games, goldeneye is king for sure
What people don't realise is that the whole idea of these older and maybe more simplistic cars is to modify them and build them up into your own personalised vehicle which suits your needs. The fox body, along with some other common rear wheel drive vehicles of the same era, are fantastic platforms which can be built up almost like lego. Superior components from other cars can be utilised along with a myriad of aftermarket parts. The design of the fox body (and other 80's boxy cars) is strange because while not following the usual misconception of what makes a car "pretty", it almost stands alone, presenting its own unique definition of what makes a good looking car.
@@anthonygato407 that and they have the perfect build for huge power. Like if you look at any drag race event most common car is this style mustang and it’s because the measurement from the back of the engine to the rear diff. The longer the distance the more power it will handle with out shaking the tires or so forth. Plus you can build them out and have a car that’s around 3000lbs
The 500hp limit only applies to the thin wall casting high output roller blocks. The old flat tappet blocks have thicker walls and are heavier as a result. There's a rumor that the roller blocks made in Mexico are thicker than the american ones. By the way, the 351 windsor is a hell of a lot stronger and pretty much a bolt in swap.
I genuinely don't understand why someone would pick a 302 over a 351. The latter weighs nearly the same and even takes the same parts, but produces more power no matter what you're doing more reliably.
@@girthquake1413 Displacement restrictions for certain types of racing is a reason. A 302 in good running condition is also a lot easier to find than a 351 in good running condition, and likely going to be a lot cheaper as they are much more plentiful and were made much more recently. Smaller displacement engines also have the capacity to rev a lot higher and quicker than larger displacement engines generally because of a combination of a shorter stroke and lighter pistons, so if you're building a naturally aspirated engine, something smaller than a 351 may be a more desirable option. This is also why some people will chose to build 4.8 GM truck blocks over 5.3's, you can get them to rev higher. And if budget isn't a huge priority, Dart Windsor blocks are the shit. They're way stronger than any factory Ford block, you can specify them to basically any displacement you want up to just over 400 cubes I believe, and you can chose between iron and aluminum. They're fantastic.
A scene in British comedy "Only Fools And Horses", and the character Trigger is a road sweeper and starts talking about his brush that he's had for 20/30 years. "This old broom has 17 new heads, and 14 new handles in it's time". Someone then asks him how can it still be the same brush, and he replies "Here's a photo of it, what else do you need?"

No shit, it's the guy I always see commenting on Megadeth videos. I had no idea you liked RCR too. I actually drive a '93 Mustang GT, and I'm always blasting Peace Sells in it haha. Also nice reference to the S2K review
First, the Windsor 5.0 was in the 94 and 95 SN95 Mustangs. They also continued production in explorers etc until 2003 I think. IMO, a lot of the comments about the looks of the Fox Mustangs are a little off base, it was certainly not ugly by the standards of its release in 1979, or at least it's sales numbers would argue the point. It was the stoplight drag race king for pretty much all of the 80's and into the 90's, which was both fun for it's owners but also garnered a seething, quiet butthurt jealousy in the 90's kids, combined with the state of market in late 90's meant "Honda Civic VTEK" and the rest of the ricer scene mostly because the Fox cars held their value through the 90's and the kids couldn't afford one. At least that's what happened around my part of the woods. As to the Mercury Capri: it didn't sell because it cost more and was the same car, essentially. However, if you find one with the factory hood scoop and front ground effects including, and especially, the more traditional grill, it is the closest thing to an early 70's muscle car you will find, appearence wise, in an 80's Ford. I had the pleasure of owning one some time ago in which I had swapped a slightly built 351W(it fit because the factory scoop allowed for hood clearance). Poor, poor 85mph speedo. Ford guys were so pissed, for YEARS that they couldn't get a 351 in those cars from the factory. I can say, after owning one, I can understand why Ford did not want to unleash that onto the public. That said, these cars have the following they do because of the ability to customize them like no other vehicle on the road, before, or I would say even after, through simple bolt on parts(for the most part). In it's stock form it was a fun car, beyond that the sky was the limit compared to pretty much anything else at the time, even engine swaps were on the table and not overly complicated. Local guy even dropped a 460 big block in a notchback when i was in highschool. Got kicked out of the strip for safety violations when he did under 9 seconds lol. Like them or not, these cars were the benchmark of the street for almost 2 decades.
I love my 1986 Mustang GT. I have owned her since new. These are great cars to work on. Start by beefing up the brakes and the chassis. Stay far away from T-Tops, sunroof's and convertibles. The chassis is a wet noodle w/o those.
My dad has an 87 GT convertible, my brother has an 89 LX 4 banger with a built 2.3L Turbo swap, an 86 N/A with about 500hp, and a rusted 83 notchback with T-Tops roller, and I had an 87 Turbo coupe. These cars are a big part of our family.
Engineering is all about trade offs. To your last point, "When it all comes together, we don't care" is spot on. Despite the compromises such as the solid rear axle, these things are a riot to drive. So IMHO they are well done, splendid machines. Oh, by the way, the 5.0 will go interstellar distances if properly maintained. I've owned 4 of the things.
I had an '88 4-banger 'Stanger. Still my favorite version of the Ford Escort to this day. Nothing like a reverse sleeper to make you look good sitting still.
My dad had about 4 or 5 of these and he has a 91 gt now and in 3 years this car will be mine. this gt he has now is an automatic but when we is driving you will see him try to switch gears because he has all of his other foxes manual but i keep reminding him.
OK, Let's see here... Henry David Thoreau The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Walt Whitman Street Fighter II Muscleheads with rapidly deteriorating lives. Goldeneye Jennifer Grey Unreal Tournament Plutarch's Writings The Grand Tour annnnnd... Penn Jillette All used to describe a Fox Body Mustang... the most vaporwave of Mustangs. Yep, this is why RCR is the best channel on RU-vid.
I love my Fox body, it's probably not the best first car, there's probably an argument for it being the worst but it's such a fun car and even though mine looks like it should be in a junkyard I still get reactions of "I had one in high school, I love those cars" hell my mom had a 4 banger in my very early childhood and she loves mine because she always wanted a 5-speed 5.0 but by the time the price had gone down she had 2 kids and not enough reason for one, Fox body's will always hold and special place on my heart, whether it's because it's my first car or because of the actual car, only time will tell.
I've been watching you for years, years, and this is by far the best video you have ever put forth. It was more philosophically thought provoking than usual, less humorous than usual(but when those jokes came, ho-boy!), and as usual, incredibly informative. I've often asked myself the same question you posed to Farah regarding my own Scirocco. You're welcome to drive it whenever you like, so long as you continue with the quality material and Pennsylvania jokes that most people don't get.
I personally like the nothchbacks way better they have more of a complete look to them with the full trunks... People say the 80s-early 90s mustangs look ugly but if done right they can look nice
No. The red 2004 is Romans car. (the guy that sings the intros). Not a 99. He was just referencing it for comparison. The teal car is a '93, the white one is an '87
This is one of the best over all reviews of a Foxbody. Hats off to you. I only wish you had a well maintained fox for this. Because both them Foxbodies are pretty much beat to death. And how do you not mention a cobra or a Saleen? I remember in high school you could not stop at any red light and NOT see two foxbodies side stepping the clutch and going at it.
this is super interesting iv always found the fox body really cool and different. always love your videos. merry Christmas as well from Australia mate 😘
My dad had a 1987 foxbody mustang gt,and he loved it to death,he said it was probably the fastest car he ever owned,he loved that thing to death and he regrets selling it every day because it was an amazing car,he always told me stories about his runs on the interstate and working on it at 4am and going to bed exhausted and covered in grease,it was those stories that made me love cars,it was his love for the foxbody that transcended him and moved to me,that's why I'll always respect and love foxbodies, because I owe it my life, because without cars,I don't know where I would be today
I think what you said about "How much before you've built a new car and stops becoming that make and model", really applies to a lot of the vintage muscle car community, you've done an amazing job on your falcon and you've still kept the essence and personality of the car. Pick up any issue of super chevy or fast fords and usually you'll see a frame off 'resto-mod' coverage of somebody who has way too much money that's replaced everything and has a tasteless interior and just trying to win some face time before they croak. Classic car is honestly isn't the right term anymore. Great video!
"For the most part, he just stood around waving his buillshit like a native American quilt..." Perfect example of what makes Regular Car Reviews so great. Keep up the good work guys!
In the Mustang world, the Foxbody is epic. Yet, you forgot the "real" SN95". The 94-98 Mustang. The replacement for the Fox. The 99-04 mustang is technically an SN95, but it is really the "New Edge". Please do a review on the 94-98 Mustangs before they disappear into forever.
Right after I was born, my dad bought (as his first new car) an '86 Mustang GT 5.0 that became the family car until my parents split in 1995. These were what a Mustang *was* for me for a long time. It would have been my first car, but mom sold it to buy her 2nd husband a CJ7 Renegade. She sold my birthright.
I have owned allot of fun cars. Starting with my first one in 1983. A year and a half ago I bought my first Fox body mustang. An 88 GT 5 speed. It is one of, if not THE funnest car I have ever owned. I love it. Great video. Hit all the points.
A mk3 european Escort side and rear profile with the front of a mk3 Granada and the interior of a mk4 Escort with a sprinkling of some mk2 fiesta bits as well
Are people not bored of LS swaps yet. I get they are a great engine but when everyone and their mothers swaps them into everything it gets pretty boring.
The first car I ever loved was my 84 Mustang GT. I saved up from my summer and part time job and bought it in 1990, my junior year of high school. I had the manual version. My step father and I did some nice upgrades to it and it was a serious beast on the local drag strip. Pretty horrible in the corners though. But it was always a blast. Miss that car.
I'm pretty sure there was. I know I saw Fox body at a car event that had somebodies name stitched all over it. It was so long ago that I can't say for sure it was Saleen.
I know this is a year old but.. Saleen Fox bodies where actually just 5.0 LX Mustangs with a body kit. LX because it was lighter than a GT mostly. They looked really nice, however performance wise they where the same as a stock car because Saleen didn't do any performance mods for some reason.
w33b3l some were actually supercharged I almost bought one after I wrecked my 88 5.0 and it was supercharged but sadly I settled on a 4.0 v6 until I get a new 5.0 here soon also if you didn't know ( I didn't know before me and dad found it) there were also gt350 foxbodies from 84 me and dad recently bought one and are working on it together
Great question. I was only just born when the Fox Body came into its own, so I can't speak from experience... but my lack of experience just might be why I covet the Fox Body so much. It's so deliciously a e s t h e t i c.
Teph the foxbody has the more character than all the cookie cutter mustangs every middle aged mom drives daily. Fox bodies are awesome, ive had mine for 3 years and cant imagine ever selling it
The Ship of Theseus Paradox is something I've thought of a lot. I plan on replacing/upgrading all the stock suspension, complete rebuild and performance upgrade on the engine, aswell as all new transmission/rear end. Not much factory Mustang is going to be left in my car.
Logan Crow-- After all that, you should strip down the Stang from the A-pillars forward, then mount a Thunderchicken front end.. .always wanted to see somebody wit nuggets big enough to do it! Lolz
Weird that I stumbled on this after watching Menace II Society today, main character gets a Fox Body from a chop shop and I had no idea it was a Mustang.
Great video as usual. I graduated high school in '91 and a whole bunch of us walked into the Ford dealership in late '89 and bought a fleet of 1990's. I think I paid $12,400 for my GT. Lots of fun times, but the car tried to kill me several times under- steering into turns or having the brakes boil over. The only cars that could beat me on the street was the GN and C4 Vette. GM Gen II & III F bodies were a piece of cake. But speaking of the C4, it's incredible to think they are in the same price range as the Fox Mustang.
In a nutshell, they were the right car at the right time in 1974 - smaller and lighter with no V8 just as the gas crunch hit, and the Ghia notchback nailed the red-hot personal luxury aesthetic like no other small car. But it aged poorly.
Yea I think it was mostly just a design that people weren't fond of after the fact. They sold well and were successful. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 10 years people start picking up Mustang IIs and making them look great. I already saw one awesome Mustang II with a V10, that car just looks soo good.
I had an ‘83 Capri RS. Loved the differences between that and the Mustang - the bubble deck and brick front end. It also had Recaros as the stock front seats. One of many I wish I wasn’t so eager to get rid of.
I bought a brand new 85 GT which was one of the first with throttle body fuel injection for the 5.0 V8. It was a great reliable car totally stock it would trip the lights in the quarter mile at around 14.70's so for the time was okay fast. Long road trips were comfortable and the hatch with the fold down rear seats provided quite a lot of trunk space. Handling was good but you still had to add weight in the rear in snow and ice. I paid just over 10K in March of 85 and it was worth every penny.
Maxwelhse without those cars we be all driving front wheel drive 4 cylinders right now . They were the driving force to show all manufacturers that people wanted V-8 muscle cars . When I was growing up there was literally a fox mustang which was called a 5.0 mustang back then on every block in America . It was the car to have back then
