Have to admit.. this was pretty uncomfortable to watch. The staging mishaps at the beginning, the faulty vocals, removing the backing dancers, it fell so flat from an acceptable national final performance. I was so sure it would qualify until tonight, so gutted for him!

Such a shame that they chose over-the-top and unnecessary over-production. He was too focused on marker pens, heart shaped filters, camera work, cues and all the other unnecessary garbage, while ignoring his voice and the 11k audience in the arena -- and it was felt on screen. It seemed like re-enactment of the music video. The only emotion I got from the song was the final part, where he tried to have an interaction with the audience (and they loved it), and then he immediately kneels back down and focuses on camera. It's a shame. Song is catchy, he's cute and it could've possibly get better rating if staged more appropriately.

I read an article about the production this year chose to go “all in” on the visuals, special effects and tricks and such, and they had big expectations of the “house” on stage that “could do so many things” The huge mistake is in my opinion that they didn’t spend even a tenth of the required amount of time and energy on perfecting what they wanted to achieve, The performer has to practice the routine “a thousand times” so that he doesn’t even have to think about his choreography- it’s just muscle memory. He only needs to think about his singing and his presence and connection to the viewer. And that “house” was actually pretty boring. The walls had only one colour. They could have should some video effects on the walls in the background when he was passing by. I think though the singer did what he could All in all if it should have been a success then there should be put ten times as much time on rehearsing

You can see at 0:26 he had trouble removing the tape, which explains why he got so nervous. Not to mention all the different markings and positions he had to go to....all he needed was himself and some dancers doing some cute tik-tok dance and he would have qualified. Seemed like a nice guy, shame we won't be seeing him on Saturday

@@vincentruvo6988 not easy. People had been complaining of the dancers and thought he should stand alone. I think it was a good decision to stand alone. But the on going switch between the vocals is not it. And too much closeness with the camera. It took to much away. When he sings in lower notes it’s much better.

I felt awful for him because he is actually quite a good vocalist. I recently watched a video of him attempting Tik Tok vocal challenges and he pulled them off so well. I think he probably felt overwhelmed and anxious on the night and that definitely had a negative effect on his vocals.

I have noticed that lot of Eurovision contestants experience vocal issues when performing in semi-finale or at the Grand Finale. It's due to extreme nervous tensions of course: the goal to reach (i.e. winning) makes them be under a huge pressure. They have to convince millions of spectators in 3 minutes only. Only some of the artists succeed in having strong emotional control to keep a full acceptable performance. The audience has now become so demanding with contestants year by year: everything has to be perfect (performance + staging). Thus, pressure has constantly been growing for the artists. I can understand that & feel empathy. However, singing out of pitch even one or 2 seconds can make a contestant lose their credibilty... and any way to possible winning. It may seem unfair but it's reality: what someone does wrongly will support someone else better prepared at once. Any artist contesting at Eurovision has almost no room for error when the time to convince has come.

Honestly, this song isn't bad. It just seem bad because of the live performance, but if you listen on spotify, it's a very chill song to listen to if I'm being honest. It reminds me of the song Heat wave, not cord-like, but vibe-like in how it makes you feel. So great song, just terrible live😅

I'm straight but I was seriously questioning that at certain times throughout this performance. Unfortunate that he was just ever so slightly out of tune, but man, I can only imagine how nuts it must be to not only be performing in Eurovision, but to open the show as well. Wake up folks, you're doing this kid a disservice. Be honest. He could hardly hit a correct note and his falsetto was god awful. The fact that this whole comment section is praising this performance under the guise of being "nice", is why tone death people will keep humiliating themselves on live television. Agreed, between the close-ups and the shaky falsetto, this performance was beyond uncomfortable to watch. I don't know if he can sing, from what I understand he had to be very exact with all the effects on his voice so maybe that tripped him up. Regardless, this performance was a mess. I think someone needs to tell this comment section that just because you like an artist doesn't mean you have to pretend they're infallible.

So my "analysis". It started off off-key because he had to do the stuff with the marker on the screen and after that couldn't get if off, as you can see he pulls it 3 times. You can see the panic in his eyes. After this moment he gets more relaxed and starts getting more stable with the singing. But I think this bad start may have been the main reason for him not qualifying. Another thing is that the camera shots could've been made a bit more exciting, not too much was happening. And last but not least, the opener is not a good spot to be in qualification-wise. Other than that a great performance and a very good song, this could have qualified under better circumstances

It would have worked well with a “looser” more relaxed choreography. The thing with tearing the heart of the camera was a good idea on its own, but simply didn’t work out very well… Also why didn’t he have to stare at the camera all the time, rather than interact just a little bit by the audience? Especially the kneeling during the last chorus killed it, since the audience seemed to love engagement his once it came. It would easily have qualified with these changes…

Since the first time it was released, this song is one of my favorites no matter it was qualified for the grand finals or not. Great song, innocent and lovely voice, enjoyable lyrics. This song is such a bop; I've been looping it and singing in the car, but dear Riley started off off-tune and it affected the whole performance I feel. I also don't like that there was so many close ups. Weird camerawork that his delegation could've improved on. Wish him well in his future endeavours 🥰

He should've never opened the show. From the first note it just wasn't right and he wasn't able to recover. Missed his mark on the top down shot, struggled to take the heart shaped tape off at the start too. Gutted for him.

Tbh I think he should have skipped the falsetto and just sang lower through the whole song. It would have worked better since the song is already a bop
